Round of 16 Notes and Upsets
- 106 - Renteria won a wild one against Malvern Prep's Lattanze, with a 5pointer at the end.
- 113 - Spencer Lee is looking amazing. Hayden Lee was dominant against Cali state champ Camposano.
- 120 - Mackall took out Jordan Allen, who many predicted to be in the finals.
- 126 - Forys continues his fiery streak he started in S32. It sets up what should be a fun quarter with Kolodzik.
- 132 - A pair of highly ranked wrestlers Seniors escaped disaster against talented Sophomores as Bryce Meredith (vs. Brent Moore) and Brock Ervin (vs. Julian Flores) posted close victories.
- 138 - Longo outlasted Skonieczny in OT. Great quarter coming up with White and McKenna.
- 145 - Early over Bailey in a wild one, 6-5. Getcha popcorn ready. The quarters at this weight are insane.
- 152 - Sparkman was awarded a takedown at the buzzer to beat Jack Bass. But with all due respect, it was a horrible call.
- 182 - Rocco Caywood posted what might be the upset of Day I when he beat Joel Dixon in the tiebreaker.

Early Round Notes & Upsets
- 106 - Freshmen Alan Hart (St. Edward, OH) beat Massillon Perry's Thomas Genetin, who was considered the favorite in Ohio's Division I this year.
- 113 - Returning Runner-Up and 3rd-seeded Jose Rodriguez (Massillon Perry, OH), was disqualified after taking a third injury time out while wrestling Brandon Tyson (Broomfield, CO).
- 120 - Brent Fleetwood needed a third period rideout to win 1-0 over Wyoming Seminary's Jimmy Overshiser.
- 120 - Gabe Townsell (OPRF, IL) beat nationally ranked Doyle Trout (Creighton Prep, NE), 7-2.
- 132 - In a match between the #26 and #31 Sophomores, Julian Flores (San Marino, CA) beat Good Counsel, MD's Kevin Budock.
- 138 - In a great early round match, Montini's Vince Turk came back against SPG freshman stud, Kyle Lawson, who was 6th at Super 32.
- HWT - Fr. Kevin Vough of Elyria pinned Jake Pinkston (Robinson, Va.), a returning Ironman 3rd placer and the 2nd seed here this year.

Good job boys! This is where our best kids are! Make ky proud!

Not ALL of our best kids, Wildcat...but some excellent Kentucky representation there. There are some great ones at the Rumble this weekend as well against some out of state competition. Should be a fun weekend!

Guys, bottom line is, we have the most talented group of high school wrestlers in KY right now than we ever had. There is no doubt about Blackwell and Ervin's accomplishments. The same goes for ATM and Nathan. In my opinion, it doesn't matter if its Flo Nationals, Ironman, or the NHSCA Nationals, all of these kids have made the state of KY proud. Is Nathan the first KY wrestler to be Nationally ranked #1? YES! Is Brock going to be a 5 time State Champ? YES! Is ATM going to be the first 220 KY 4 time State Champ and have an unblemished record? YES! Does Blackwell round out this unbelievable group of future D1 wrestlers? YES! Have I forgot to mention Sean Fausz? ALMOST! Lol! All of these guys are top notch. I am proud to be a part of KENTUCKY wrestling! Good luck to all of these young men and all of the guys that will be chasing their dreams this year.

Congrats to Brock and Trae!!! I got to see Brock wrestle at NHSCA this year and he lived up to the hype. The IRON MAN is definitely a big tournament for any young man who wants to define himself. Brock and Trae should be extremely proud of their achievements.
