That's the beauty of wrestling and all sports for that matter. They teach our youth that you're not always going to be at 100%. That sometimes you're going to have to work through a belly ache. That people depend on you and you can't let them down for the sake of not feeling well. At times, in order to accomplish your goals, you are going to have to sacrifice comfort. That is, of course, if you set them high enough. Kuddos to Sam Bacon for making that sacrifice over the weekend and helping his team win the State Duals Championship.

I watched the semi-finals match between Sr Brandon Leak North Hardin and 8th Seth Slayton of Caldwell Co this Saturday at Ft. Knox and what a match it was both kids giving their all each and every round. In the 3rd period as the match was a close one tempers got heated little pushing and shoving went on and the ref did a good job of bringing them back to talk and wrestle. As both fought through each others final attempts to win what was still a heated exchange the match ended with Leak coming out top 9-4. Both what came next was great as Leak got his arm raised Slayton dropped his head and Brandon went back and hugged the kid and spoke with him for a while. Don't know what he said but it was kind of pass of torch so to say or a huge show or respect this young wrestler earned. As my son and I watched this unfold he turned to me and said that's why wrestling is the greatest sport there is you give it all then embrace with all the respect in the world and you mean it. Great job both kids and for you Brandon Leak you are what this sport should be thanks.

First off, no one was aware he had anything wrong with him. After his first injury time I had thought It was from getting squeezed and maybe a loss of blood flow as the kid had him right around the neck in a head lock for a good 10/15 seconds He even said he didn't know what was wrong. He had no cough and no temp. For all we could tell it was from drinking or eating too much in the morning or. Even his first thought was something he ate. For all I know, still was something he ate. Trainer cleared him and I'm no doctor. If it was something worse he wasn't saying. Sorry if my kid didn't want to quit over a belly ache and that confuses you. If we thought or were aware that he was contagious or had something real serious he wouldn't have been drilling with our kids either.

Most people predicted a St. X vs Woodford final, but that is a great team win for Oldham County. JC finally got a taste of what the rest of the state has to offer.

No. Woods is not hurt, nor injured. He sat out @ the Dragon Invitational after being clinically diagnosed with the Flu.

I don't really care if Sam Bacon is ranked, don't bother me. But I will say I was very proud of him stepping up this weekend. Every kid he wrestled was ranked in the top 15 and he took an Injury time to go puke in a garbage can his first match against (I can't remember) spent 10 minutes after at the garbage can. Won over Haverstick who was ranked ahead of him 19-8 and yes, lost to Roth (don't remember the score) but beat him this year when healthy. Pinned his next apponent (can't remember) and hurt his arm, think he blew a bursa sack or something below his elbow, swelled up and wasn't going to wrestle the last one against wheeler but changed his mind for his team. Was a rough day for him as he had no gas past the first period and you can rank him where you want or not at all. He won't make excuses, he's not that way. He lost his matches fair and square and give Roth and Wheeler all the credit in the world, they're tuff boys. But I'm pretty sure Sam Bacon hasn't taken any steps backwards since he took Wells into overtime, who seems to be your number one. Not complaining, whining or making excuses, again I'm proud of the weekend he had. I ain't saying he would have won either one of the matches he lost Saturday but I have no doubt he'll look a little better losing them in 3 weeks Should be fun! Gotta love post season, see you all there

Contagious and communicable diseases shouldn't count as a teaching moment. Whether it was contagious in this case as further clarification from @PABacon seems to contradict his first post, then so be it. if my kid is sick, has ring worm, or any other issue which could bring someone else down; we will sit him out and not try to cover it up. I realize I'm probably in the minority here.

Sam may be a stud, but 120 is, unless I am mistaken, the most competitive hunt for the title this year out of any weight class. All the kids at that weight are neck and neck, heck Woodford has a guy that isn't even 'varsity' that could very likely place top 5 at 120 on a good day.
