I’m worried about families not being able to afford to compete in post season. I personally know one family that consist of mother, father, middle school wrestler, youth wrestler and sibling This is their costs: mother $30 two day pass father $30 two day pass sibling (15 year old) $30 two day pass middle school wrestler $30 entry fee youth wrestler $30 entry fee If the middle school wrestler does not place at the middle school state tournament he can pay another $30 to wrestle on Sunday. Possible Costs in entry fees and tickets $180 Add hotel, food and travel costs it could be $400-$500 weekend.

No one holds unannounced votes with no meeting minutes as well as the KFWC. I'm not a cynical person but 4 years of dealing with this organization has certainly tested my resolve.

Bylaws are the rules we follow if they can change this without everyone knowing until the last moment what else can they change.. im worried for the direction wrestling is going in the state it seem to be more of a money making thing other than for the kids .. the kfwc need to be more transparent and put out more info on meetings and update their minutes if they did have some sort of meeting to approve this kinda things … this isn’t decisions that should be made be a couple of people this effects thousands of kids

Just saw the prices for middle/youth state tournament and they seem a little outrageous for a youth wrestling tournament. Imagine being a family of 5 who has two wrestlers and a younger sibling coming to watch their brothers wrestle. Just for a single day they would pay $110 just to get in the door and wrestle. Not to mention hotel, food and travel costs. The bylaws posted show that registration fees were set at $16 per wrestler. Are there any minutes showing that the entry fee price was changed (almost doubled) and voted on? I’m not sure why we are causing financial hardship on parents just to get their kids into the state tournament.

This is Breyden Whorton. I am a Christian athlete with my faith coming first. I wanted to thank TJ. I wanted to thank the Larue and Walton Verona coaches for both coming out and joing the prayer. I wanted to thank anyone that joined in the prayer or stayed silent for it. This was more than just 2 wrestlers this was to show how strong his love can be to everyone and spread his message. All glory goes to the lord.

Great list. Although, Dave should get some extra credit for rocking that sweet stache his senior year.

Unpopular opinion, but I tend to agree with you.

Was in a discussion over the weekend. What other 4 X'ers went undefeated in KY? I know ATM never lost. Did anyone from KY beat Brock, Fahy, Courtney, Knable, Clarkston, or Harden? I don't think anyone touched Brock or Knable, but not 100%. Did Courtney ever lose from 9th-12th? No clue on Clarkston or Harden.

I will agree with Ranger on the above. The one person that I will say I saw improve throughout the year a TON was Blake. We got into (looking back) a hilarious exchange at a dual over a call that I didn't agree with. He then took a team point which looking back was almost worth the joking comment I made. The one thing he did do great at state was always moving to be in position. I think that is one big area of concern overall with refs. Also in about 5 different matches I saw the same young ref call "two takedown" after guys sat in a position that DID NOT CHANGE for about 20 seconds. I would call the guy out by name if I knew it because I think being straight forward is the only way to ever improve.

Well that’s what I was thinking but no one has heard anything about it until a Facebook posted was made yesterday

https://khsaa.org/new_application/ Your books will be mailed to you. Pass the test when it opens and your licensed. Next step is joining the KWOA and being assigned to your local association as well as having a mentor assigned to you. KWOA has a training tournament in the fall, winter and spring for new officials. The above link is only to officiate high school with the KHSAA. High school wrestlers are encouraged to officiate youth events to get additional mat time.

Look I will tell you all right now.... If you guys want to give reffing a try I promise you will get humbled pretty quickly. You may "know" the rule book but I can promise you that you don't know every detail to every situation. I have 22 years of experience in this sport and learned very quickly toss it out the window. It is totally different in the heat of the moment. Did I get ripped some yes, I did. Did I miss calls, yes I did. Did I have a few bad calls, yes I did. But that's all apart of it. No one will make every call correctly. We strive too, but the potential for human error is there. That's apart of it. Will we still rip officials? Probably so, that goes on for years. But until Elon Musk develops a robotic referee why not try to help eliminate the issues and be apart of a solution. Talking behind the keyboard is one thing... Actually doing it is another. I can tell you that officials are needed! Instead of complaining about it, get online next fall and sign up. I know they will appreciate the extra help. It will save some from driving 4 hours to a tourney and going back.

I just wanted to take a moment and say "thank you" to Ranger for compiling rankings throughout the season. I took a few minutes this morning to compare the actual placements to his rankings and he is pretty close to being spot on in most weight classes. Of course, there were some upsets and injuries that derailed some of the top-ranked kids which are to be expected. I am really appreciative of what he does and am amazed at just how accurate he is. state placements.pdf

Only thing pretty simple is you humble brag on these forums all year, then make excuses when you lose.

Did Joe see the thousands of people stuffed into the undersized venue for over 20 hours without masks? Or the hundreds of wrestlers in physical contact, breathing and sweating and bleeding on each other? Has he even been in a single school classroom in the last 6 months where masks have long since been abandoned and everyone has safely moved on? Did Joe approve of the silly chairs that the same wrestlers day on shoulder to shoulder? This is such a cowardly explanation. I'm glad to hear the guys had the podium ready to go, but the khsaa decision really frustrates me.

Time to add Cole Thomas to this discussion. 4x state champion, MOW as Senior. Never lost to a wrestler in KY all 4 years. Every finals opponent either was or went on to win a state championship.

That DQ was absolutely insane. I told a couple guys last week at semi-state that you better be atleast 6 points better to guarantee a win with how bad refs are and clearly I was still wrong lol

Did I just watch a kid score 15 points and get stalled out of a match while up by 4 w/ :08 seconds left?? Only in KY

You are absolutely correct Chris, I screwed up on that end...but I think we bought all the food up in Georgetown in order to feed half the state

At SS#2 I have a complaint. This falls on the shoulders of the tournament director. When you contact him the day before and his best choice for a local place to grab breakfast is First Watch that is an issue. Jnv858 has a lot to learn about running a tournament.

I like both of these kids because they're wrestlers. Honestly, how would you all feel if a couple Muslims or Rastafarians practiced their religion in that venue at that time? I'm calling it grandstanding.
