NCAA's!

Recommended Posts

Who's going to NCAA's this weekend in St. Louis?  Starks isn't able to wrestle because he hurt his knee but I look for great things from Ruschell; top 4, maybe top 2 depending on how the brackets shake out.

preicin from northwesterm wins 125 and jordan leen wins 154i think there is no one who can even compte with metcalf

125 is that wide open but precin wont win it... i think donahoe vs angel escebedos in the finals..wildcard nickerson...unless leen picks it up we wont be watching the irish jigg saturday night..burroughs wins 154

Here's how I see it up through 157:

125 I like Escobedo.  He's healthy and peeking at the right time.  Looked good beating Precin at Big 10's.  I would give the edge to Nickerson over Donohoe for 2nd.  Depends on how the brackets fall.  I think Donohoe went to the same HS as Metcalf in MI but I'm not positive.

133 I'm going with Humphrey.  Even though Gomez beat him in the Big 10's Humphrey almost had the TD in OT but couldn't finish. Dennis is a bulldog but doesn't have technique to win it all.  Kennedy is also a possibility.

141 Russell.  Coming on strong at end of season.  Great scrambler like most Blair Academy products.  I see Tanneli, Tsirtis, and Jaggers pretty even.  Of the three I would pick Jaggers for 2nd.

149  Obviously Metcalf.  The tough pick here is who will get 2nd.  Again, depends on how the brackets fall but I see Kyle as having as good of a chance as Jenkins, Caldwell, or Palmer.  Good Luck Kyle!!!

157  Another stacked weight.  Any of the top 5 could win.  I'm going with Poeta.  I thought he was the best last year but was not aggressive enough in the finals and lost to Leen who wrestled a great match.  I think Poeta turns it around this year.

Of these weight classes, every one has 3, 4, or 5 guys that could end up winning it (other than 149).  Should be some great wrestling.  I don't follow the upper weights as much so this is as far as I'm going.  The one guy I really like watching of the big guys is Jake Herbert from NW.  I liked to see him and Pucillo in the finals.  Herbert has got some awesome technique that you usually don't see at the upper weights.  Too bad about Starks getting injured.  Definitely would have been pulling for him as well.

A few other interesting story lines:

Zach Sanders 125 true freshman, 5x Mn State Champ.  Currently ranked 9th.  Can he AA?  Should be close.  He looks small to me out there against some of the blue chip 125's.  He is also one of the last guys to beat David Taylor.

149  2 guys to watch in the battle for AA are Kyler from Army and Saddoris from Navy.  Kyler was a surprise AA last year for Army as a sophomore.  I think he got 5th.  Him and Saddoris from Navy have battled all year with Kyler winning every time except in the conference finals last week.  5-4 Saddoris. Kyler had won the previous 3 times.  Kyler is a PA guy and I think Saddoris wrestled HS in MD.

It sucks Kyle is on the same side as Metcalf.  I still look to see him place very high.

He's got to go through Palmer in the quarters too. BTW, Palmer's little brother won his 4th title in Ohio 2 weeks ago.

they dont draw they seed

Actually they seed the top 12 and the rest are drawn in.  So both of you are right.

I like most of your picks, however don't overlook Missour's Raymond at 184.  He is capable of winning the tournament.  I don't think Ruschell gets to the semis at 149.  Russell vs. Tanelli at 149.  Brester vs. Askren at 197.  Zabriskie vs. Ellis in the 285 final.

Oops, Russell vs. Tanelli at 141.  (He is why Ruschell is wrestling 149 instead of 141).

I think you should get your facts straight.  Kyle Ruschell is not wrestling 141 because he cannot make the weight class.  I got this information from Kyle himself.  Furthermore, not to take anything away from Tannelli but he doesn't give Kyle a match.  And that's a fact Jack!

I was wondering about that myself.  Tannelli looks tough, but I watched Kyle wrestle Metcalf earlier in the year and he gave Metcalf the best match I've seen anyone give him all year.  I think if Kyle is healthy for this weekend he will place very high.
