2011 GMVWA Holiday Tournament - Campbell Cty, Ryle Simon Kenton

Recommended Posts

I agree. They got a 4 and a 5 seed. Ohio puts so much weight in OH SQ's and placers. Some rightfully so, but two top notch kids like Cooper and Yenter are going to knock out some kids that think they are better than they are. Also, even with high placings at the same tourney last year doesn't hold much weight. O'well. You have to beat the best to be the best. Go KY!

Congrats to the Northern Kentucky champs. They (ohio) continue to complain about our wrestlers and make the seeding more fair for the Ohio boys. They keep forgeting that there are no free passes to the finals. All three schools wound up in the top ten. Next year maybe they should consider region 6 champions as sectional champs. What excuse will the Ohioans use next for losing to our men. TJ, Cory,

Garth and Kevin congratulations. That tourney is a meat grinder and you deserve a world of credit. Good luck the remainder of the year.

I'm an Ohio homer and think it's right up there with Pa as the best wrestling state. There is depth, talent and school/community support you won't see anywhere else.

With that said you have to give credit where it's due and the results speak volumes about the quality of Ky wrestling. That's the great thing about wrestling--it's all settled on the mat! Judging by some of the youth programs, it's only a matter of time before Ryle/CC/SK routinely win some of these Ohio tournaments.

Well Tim Reynolds as another old Ohio guy I agree with everything you said about the depth and strength about Ohio wrestling. I will also say that Cleveland has the best high school wrestling in the country by far. That being said Ryle was the co champion for big school in the GMVWA last year wtih Centerville. (Ryle is going to the Cleveland area in January for a duel torunament. I think it will be educational).

Awsome job for all the boys that placed at the GMVWA this weekend. Congratulations. Lets keep it up and let our wrestling do the talking for us when we go to Ohio. We are making believers out of lots of folks in Ohio that used to talk smack that Kentucky is a sub par wrestling state. Way to go guys

Ryle is going to the Grizzly Duels at Wadsworth

Individual Pool Tournament at Wadsworth (Grizzly Invitational Tournament) GIT will be on trackwrestling. Teams that will be there: Garrettsville, Glenoak, Ellet, North Canton Hoover, Midview, Eastlake North, Olentangy Liberty, Sandusky, University School, Valley Forge, Warren Howland, Wadsworth and Ryle

I saw Wadsworth at Moeller Duals, they have some state qualifiers and I think one returning state champ, (signed with OSU).

I would only respond to the debate about Ohio vs. Kentucky wrestling by saying - what difference does it make? As someone else mentioned, the Cleveland area is arguably the best region in the nation when it comes to hs wrestling talent. They have been building programs in Cleveland area for at least 50/60 years - if not longer. Wadsworth is somewhat down this year but have Nick Tavanello and Kagan Squire on that team. Oregon Clay (my alma mater) will also wrestle for the first time at the GIT after winning Brecksville in December. They have a nice program going - but have never had an individual state champ. As a whole - Kentucky does not have nearly the wrestling depth of Ohio, but there is a lot of talent in Kentucky. However, I would not use the GMVWA as a guage for where they are at in relation to Ohio wrestling. The tournament was substantially weakened this year with St. Paris Graham going to the "Clash" and Oregon Clay opting out 2 years ago to compete at the Brecksville Invitational.

Lakewood St. Eds is probably the top team in the nation when they are healthy and at full strength - if that ever really happens for any team.
