State Prediction Game 2016

Recommended Posts

It's that time of year folks

Now for those of you who haven't played before allow me to introduce you to the roles.

You are going to pick a winner for each weight class, and when you do you are going to assign them a point value of 1 through 14. The 14 goes to the wrestler you most expect to win where the 1 goes to the win you are least sure about. So if I assigned my 14 to a healthy Tyler Frankrone then I would get 14 points if Frankrone wins, but if Frankrone decides to sit out the tournament I would get 0 points.

We also do a dark horse, I'm going to go off of Ranger's most current rankings but if enough people say we should wait for his predictions then I will change it. The way your dark horse works is you pick someone ranked fairly low in Ranger's rankings that you think will place a lot higher and you get points for the difference. So if I pick someone ranked 17th and they finish 5th I get 12 bonus points.

Finally we have the tiebreaker which is you pick the team you think will win plus the score you think you will have.

Alright I think that was enough here are my picks

14- Brandon Reed, 220
13- Max Emerson, 182
12- Bryce Sheffer, 126
11- Jackson Oxford, 145
10- Casey Cornett, 170
9- Keegan Duncan, 132
8- Landon Young, 285
7- Logan Erdman, 138
6- Hudson Heidorf, 160
5- Ben Barton, 152
4- Tanner Yenter, 113
3- Adam Bender, 106
2- Daniel Kimble, 195
1- Ryan Moore, 120

Every year it feels like Angel gets overlooked.  How many years in a row does have to reach the finals at 138 to be 'favored'.  I'm sure he will only use it as motivation.  He's a great wrestler and even better young adult.

Love Angel, super great kid.  He's funky and has great hips, but I feel Logan can handle the funkiness because he wrestles from his butt a lot.  But I feel Logan is bigger and a little stronger. It's was close in my head and Angel has a much easier draw, so it may actually work in his favor.  Wouldn't be surprised if he is on to of the podium Saturday night, but I gave the edge to Logan.  I also made this prediction based on Logan not being sick like he was at regionals.

Not sure. I think 138 will be Angel, Logan or AJ...all of them are well respected, multiple-time placers. What if some kid comes out of nowhere, not ranked in top 5 and upsets some studs to win at a different weight?  Good shot at OW.

What if Sparh or Binder Wins 138 ? WOULD THEY NOT BE CONSIDERED OW even more so than anyone for Winning for outdoing 2 State Champs ?? ALL DEPENDS ON what you get OW for , Performance that Day or Body of Work or a Mixture ,I have seen it both ways .Seen a kid get fastest pin most pins and have the most dominating performance at state under worse conditions than any state champ ever and not win ow then a kid who had never won a title get ow for beating that same kid the next yr ?It all depends On the motivations of the coaches .

A COUPLE AT 220 Could win and be undefeated but not beat any returning Champ but have to get by an undefeated opponent .A lot of scenarios .The easiest case would have been If Frankrone pinned through he would have been a good choice on Body of work and repping his State  even if his class was weak .What if someone knocks off Saul maybe they could be a candidate..

In the end it looks like whoever wins 138 Angel Logan Binder Or Sparh and yes Sparh could win will be OW .

sometimes i wish more had your knowledge of the sport. Doesnt take rocket science for someone to see 138 iS the toughest weight class. The top 3 not only can, but do compete very well nationally. Name another weight class with 3 state finalist from 2015?
