FalconWrestling 147 Report post Posted February 17, 2013 Since it was a fairly hot topic right before the state tournament I figured I might as well compare the two rankings and see which mind(s) reigned supreme. I didn't use the Ranger report since those were predictions based on the brackets, I instead used the rankings he made right before state since it was made in the same manner as the Committee. I listed the placers at each weight followed by their ranking by the Committee then their ranking by Ranger. 106 1. Jorge Vega (5th, 5th) 2. Trevor Lawson (6th, 3rd) 3. A.J. Bindner (7th, 7th) 4. Joey Scaggs (4th, 6th) 5. David Hernandez (10th, 10th) 6. Jake Burroughs (2nd, 4th) 7. Bryce Sheffer (11th, 11th) 8. Travon Thacker (3rd, 2nd) Advantage: Ranger 113 1. Nathan Boston (1st, 1st) 2. Brad Weber (UR, 17th) Advantage: Ranger Ranger wins, being more accurate then the Committee Rankings 7 times while being more innaccurate only 4 times. 3 times both sets of rankings were virtually the same in regards to accuracy. The Committee didn't rank a placer 6 times while Ranger only did it twice (but he did have two placers ranked outside of the Top 15 which the Committee didn't extend to). However, the Committee correctly ranked 8 champs versus just 7 for Ranger.
trithis 34 Report post Posted February 17, 2013 So, the way I see it....there's no need for a committee and just give ranger his due bcs he's better than all of your minds combined. Pretty clear to me. Statistics over logic.
FalconWrestling 147 Report post Posted February 17, 2013 I am in no mood for ignorance today so I will just put this simply. The committee was formed to take some of the pressure off Ranger since the poor man is overworked in everything not just wrestling. He does more for Kentucky Wrestling then most people on this site combined outside of the like of Coach Smith and Coach McCoy. From the get go our purpose was to take a task that was crushing Ranger under its weight and spread out it over a group of people. Now if you want to get into the rankings themselves we had TWO days to create not only rankings from scratch but a whole entire system in which to make them. I was personally up until 1 in the morning looking up results for the weights I was assigned. You can not complain over lack of rankings then turn around and insult the people who gave up their time in order to give you rankings.
Rumbler 62 1 Report post Posted February 17, 2013 It appears that both did a great job. There is a need for the committee because Ranger wasn't updating the Rankings. It shouldn't be his responsibility to do it either. I'm sure its a big hassle. I think going forward with a committee is the way to go. The rankings should be updated atleast once every 3-4 weeks during wrestling season.

That is about our goal right now, we are also looking into doing a couple preseason rankings as well over the summer

trithis 34 Report post Posted February 17, 2013 Don't get all bent out of shape. I think you all do a great job. Keep up everyone's ranking efforts...it's great for the sport. I merely just pointed out some that were bashing Rangers efforts. He does a great job and he came out on top.
coffeesgood 19 Report post Posted February 17, 2013 So...logically speaking...how about Ranger be on the committee? That way it won't be ALL up to him, but everyone will benefit from his experience and expertise.
FalconWrestling 147 Report post Posted February 17, 2013 Ranger provided his commentary, personally I kind of like having multiple sets of rankings, but that's just me.

I merely just pointed out some that were bashing Rangers efforts. He does a great job and he came out on top. Who the crap was bashing Ranger? Good grief. The committee was formed to take some pressure off Ranger, who had been doing these rankings alone -- while coaching on top of everything else he has/had going on -- for the last several years. People had been clamoring for new rankings for weeks, even months, and this was a way to get new rankings out and help Ranger as well.
bocowrestling 14 Report post Posted February 18, 2013 It was funny that throughout the tournament it was announced the Kentucky does not rank wrestlers, yet rankings were referred to throughout the medal finals.

Josh_Claywell 52 Report post Posted February 18, 2013 No, the khsaa does not rank wrestlers. This. David Dawson, the man who does the announcing during finals and for most of the tourney, has used the rankings from this site for the last several years. Before that, they used the KWCA rankings. JCB0577 17 Report post Posted February 18, 2013 In other words Ranger is the AP poll and the Commitee is the coaches poll like in College football/basketball. I like it.
