Kentuckywrestling.com HS Rankings 2008/2009 - FEB 16

Recommended Posts

What a wild weekend!  I can't recall to many weight changes and surprise finishes during a regional weekend.  I decided to update the rankings one more time before state.  Tomorrow night I'll try to post my usual prediction rankings based on how I see the tournament playing out (more accurate for team scoring).  I think it is shaping up to be a great weekend in Frankfort.

I've been out of the loop here lately so here are some questions and comments I have.

103 - What happened to Dillon Pike of Meade?

112 - Did Warra not make weight? What place did Andy Lenz get at regionals at 125? Also James Sever's placed 5th at regionals didn't he? If so that doesn't constitute an 10th ranking. Disappointing with two of the top 4 not making weight at regionals.

119 - Why did Byron Hoskinson move from 6 to 11? It will be interesting to see how Jeff Warra shakes things up. Zarth has been doing good, hope he doesn't slip up now.

125 - Wonder how Andy Lenz will do with the extra weight. Also, look out for Kasey Hedges to get some upsets after being up 8 then getting pinned by Travis K.

130 - What happened to Aaron Dodd?

135 - It will be interesting to see how Rayshawn Graham will do at 135, hope he can make weight for state. It will be interesting to see how Brandon Whitehouse does as well, look for him to possibly get some upsets. Duncan Caddell is way under ranked!!!

140 - Andy Kiper moves from 15 to 7? Justin Davis is looking strong.

145 - I like Dusty Brown over Grant Ohlmann, but I also think that JJ Jude could beat Grant Ohlmann.

152 - Zack Sowder moves from 8 to 4? Eric McCauley goes from 6 to 9? I miss Dusty Stengel :(

160 - Harrison Courtney will pin or tech his way through the state tournament.

171 - Brad Hitchings is looking as dominant as ever, look for my boy Alex Meads to place top 8 though.

189 - Jordan Blakemore didn't look very impressive at regionals. Ryan Houchens is going to win state this year.

215 - Time for Ilg to put his money where his keyboard has been all year.

285 - I can't stand Whiting but it looks like he's got this one in the bag. Also, why did Houston Croney move from 7 to 5?

Anyone that can provide me any information on these questions, it is much appreciated. Looks to be very exciting.

Don't know what happened to Pike.

Severs was 3rd.  As was Lenz.

Hoskinson lost to Hitchings and Warra moved up.

Dodd moved up to 140.

Kiper beat Thomas at region.

Sowder looked great at region teching in the finals.  McCauley lost to Robinson.

Rangers rankings don't necessarily correspond with how the brackets turn out. They are completely unrelated.

:?

The problem is not Ranger.  The problem is that khsaa ignores any rankings other than how a wrestler places in the region.  It makes it very easy for them to come our with the brackets but unfortunately does not guarantee a fair distribution of the wrestlers.  This results in the key matches between top ranked wrestlers in the quarter finals rather than under the lights in the finals.  Clearly they have to wrestle each other eventually but preference for the fans would be under the lights.  Oh well, maybe someday.

DERSTAND one thing, rangers ranks are for entertainment ONLY.

I respect the rankings and they are 95% accurate or give us something to talk about.

When it comes to state vs. rankings, it doesn't take into consideration of those that miss weigh, bump up, "GET UPSET" the computer doesn't care what your name is or your school or coach.

It is a random draw to 1's against 4's and 2's against 3's.

Yes, it would be nice to separate the common sense top 2 or 4; but when Davis mad a mistake/upset whatever you want to call it you fall to the luck of the draw.  Most would agree that Davis and Shotwell should be in the finals, but Davis screwed this up, not the computer.  Reality is Davis got what he deserved for his indiscretion.  He keeps his head and he is in the finals against Shotwell.

It happens every year, we complain and this is the simplest process we have.  Coaches will always have favoritism to their team, region or key match-ups so the coaches aren't the right people to have on a committee.

We need just facts and not favoritism to rank say the top four.  If you win your region you deserve some form of a break over a runner up of another region and our current process works all the region CHAMPIONS are seeded.

I agree that his rankings are 95%.  IMO 95% is a significant improvement over 50/50 or a coin toss or worse yet random.  I realize Ranger is not magic and his rankings are only as good as the info fed to him.  But at least it is better than random.  I think it would be worth a try one year to see if it improves the tournament.

Regrettble it is what it is and its better than the BCS - haha.

It truly is as fair as anything avaiable given our circumstance.

If you win your region why should you be seed lower than the kid you beat :-o

Hey Elvis, beat the varsity guy and you have a chance to be recognized.  That or make yourself a nice, big crap sandwich and enjoy.

alright ranger didnt need to be a jerk about it, and you can eat a crap sandwich because all you do is sit on this website allday and talk about highschool wrestling. get a life. it was a simple question, didnt need a smart allic remark.

the question is what would you obsess over if not for ranger to rank everybody? so you are interdependant on ranger, therefor, if he were to "get a life" (which to me translates to "stop helping the high school wrestling world so much") you would be lost... so you may just want to reevaluate.

But seriously though, you took it way out of the way he meant it. i believe the message that ranger was trying to get across was to step up, beat the varsity kid, therfor earning yourself a varsity spot, and you can be ranked.

btw if you or someone else beat a 5th ranked wrestler why are you jv? and what was the 5th ranked wrestler doing wrestling you/him/her

Yeah, I guess that's basically what I was saying, in a more colorful way.
