State Brackets and Predictions

Recommended Posts

Brackets are out and looks like some very good 1st round match ups and possible quarter and semi finals matches. So here is my mash up and predictions for state: 70-103 the rest will come tomorrow. Remember, i'm an old man who just loves wrestling and attends all Conner's matches. So don't kill me if you disagree with what I'm saying. I would love to hear everyone else predictions.

70- Sorry guys not really familiar with this weight class since the team I follow closely doesn't have a 70 pounder. I'm taking Burroughs dec Wells

75-  Semi's: Skaggs majdec Barton/ Binder majdec Martin

A rematch of last years finals match at 70 pounds. This year I'm saying it first; Skaggs dec ot Binder.

82- 1st Round- Erdmen vs Putty

2nd Round Sheehan vs Wiley

2nd Round Erdmen/Putty vs Thompson, All of these match ups on the same side of the bracket. Top will be won by Goshorn. Bottom will be won by Wiley, so we'll see another Region 3 Finals.

Wiley majdec Goshorn

89- 1st Round- Edlin vs Erdmen

Semi's Erdmen vs Lanchiester/ Lanchister dec Erdmen

Lanchiester pin Cline

96- 2nd Round- Gilkey vs Shirkley/ Shirkley dec Gilkey

Semi's Shirkley majdec Higgins, although Higgins might suprise a lot of people. Blackwell majdec Auxier

Blackwell dec Shirkley

103- WOW. 2nd Round Brown vs Kahl. Going with Brown in a barn burner! Brown vs Lampe finals. Lampe majdec Brown.

I will have more tomorrow good night everybody.

No D.W., but I am a realist. lets look at the results of state the last 4 to 5 years as well as tournament results. There are certainly good teams and good kids elsewhere but as a region I would be willing to bet region 3 has the most state placers as well as champions on a consistant basis.  Good luck everybody at state.

Refdad, here is the last 7 years. Reg. 1 vs. Reg. 3    State Placers and region 1-4 state champs.

                      State Placers

                Reg. 1              Reg. 3

2009        30                    19

2008        26                    14

2007        31                    15

2006        32                    21

2005        21                    15

2004        28                    22

2003        21                    10

    Individual State Champs

                Reg. 1          Reg. 2          Reg. 3        Reg. 4

2008          9                  2                    2              2

2007          4                  5                    2              5

2006          4                  8                    1              3

2005          4                  6                    0              6

2004          5                  8                    3              3

2003          3                  8                    1              6

Total          33              42                  11              29

Not to take anything away from reg. 3 but you might want to rethink your last quote.

Didn't have time to look up the state placers from reg. 2 and 4, i will get that for you later.

:-o..  Would have never believed that. I stand corrected apparently. I am not sure exactly what teams are in what region now but I would have to think the majority of those numbers were produced by Union Co and Larue??

If you went farther back in history you may be correct.  If my memory serves, Gray and Campbell were pretty dominant in the early days, then Fern Creek picked it up.  Recently, Union and Larue have been very strong.  What I have been impressed with this year, with the limited view I have seen of the results, is the parody around the state.  Middle school wrestling has really picked it up in KY.  You can find studs in many programs all around the state.  There are very few, if any, shoe in state champs and most weights have half a dozen kids who will battle it out for the title.  Pretty awesome.

Nice post Ranger,

I agree with you 100%, all of these kids, their parents and coaches should be proud of what they have accomplished.  To qualify for middle school state means quite a bit.  Regardless of what happens at the state tournament next weekend all of these young wrestlers will be fun to watch as they filter into the high school level.  Best of luck to everyone next week.

I believe in 2005 region 4 had 11 state champions...

Also don't forget in most of the weight classes that region 1 did have a state champion it was all region 1 wrestlers battling it out for it. For example

82 1.Ervin&3.Blackwell

103 Canter,Willen,&Wedding all top 3

110 Montgomery,Ervin,Perez,& Holtsclaw all top 4

And many other weight classes those are just the ones that i remember of the top of my head.
