Central H.S.-STATE TOURNAMENT

Recommended Posts

Needs to be ran way better then what they did this year, there WAS NO REASON we shouldve been there from 8:00 thats when weigh ins started alll the way to nearly 5:00 with still not all the mats ,not being used.

I appreciate Sambo Joe bringing his sport and his students to louisville to compete with us knowing that it would be an overly tough match up for any of his guys being that alot of the wrestlers who showed up were DECENT IN GRECO ROMAN

BUT

he spent way too long talking about nothing I hate to say up there in the meeting with everybody, its like this if your bold enough or brave maybe to try a sport the first day without knowing anything about it,you have to expect that it may not turn out the best for you

ON THE OTHER HAND,anyone can teach or show you anything the night before or the day of,WILL A KID REMEMBER IT......high percentage says no!!!

It was great to see such a large interest in the Greco and Freestyle matches, when folkstyle came around thats when the slacking truely began....

There were times when the table would stop working regardless of what they were doing, they stopped and took pauses while 3 mats  werent being used with table runners AND REFS were there

There were mistakes being made who was doing what styles on paper so you could be called up to a freestyle match when you have never even done it before.....get beat really fast teaching you nothing!

then you may of signed up for folk and they didnt even write you down, you had been sitting there for 7hours straight and now they are givin g the run around about you not wrestling

as well as they did when it was time to pick up medals

EXHIBITIONS

are matches that shouldnt be an obligation till matches that were paid for at registration were set or atleast done, everytime we looked up someone was challenging another kid and walking to the table and then they were allowed to wrestle right away,in all fairness im for that, that is what you call someone who came to work that day,if you can walk up bravely and be like hey man can we wrestle to learn alittle bit about yourself, regardless of weight, status or whatever, its comending in my book, but it shouldnt be a priority till the end of the tournament or somewhat in the middle

had they stuck to the original plan they called out this mat folk, that one freestyle, greco and all sambo will be here,it probably wouldnt of been such a big inconvience to come to that day

Thank You Coach Founder and Central for hosting this tournament and taking the time out of your day to do this, but whoever was runnign the tables over there was VERY UNORGANIZED....

as worst as "someones dad telling someone else's son,he wanted him to wrestle his son

lol a time and place for this and that situation didnt turn out good AT all!!!

First of all I would like to thank all of those who came and participated and apologize for any and all inconviences.  With all things there are some growing pains.  Although I do not know the numbers yet I can tell you there were definitely more than last year.  That is a good thing becuase that means we are growing.  We had state champions and placers that attended this year which didn't happen last year.  As I walked around I took comments and suggestions from most everybody I talked to.  We are aware of some of the issues and are presently working on ways to make it better.  There will be definite changes to next years tournament in turn should make things go different.  I will be posting numbers and results by the end of the week on this website and also on Coach McCoy's.  Thanks again and it will get better.

Everyone has to understand that running a summer tournament with four different werstling disciplines at it is a much more trying task than a high school tourney.  Yes, we had our problems, but with the numbers present, I say it was still a successful Saturday.  How many exhibitions were turned away?  It's the summer, so in my opinion the most important thing is mat time...

If you truly love the sport, then 8-5 on a Saturday, to have an opportunity to wrestle good competition from across the region, is something to relish.

Critique the event all you want, but with the notion of improving it for next year.  If this thread becomes a bashing section, so be it, but give those in charge the opportunity to fix it, by providing constructive criticism

I understand that this may have been a new venue, having so many styles of wrestling and was difficult to run.  However, we had a wrestler that weighed in at 8:00 am, and did not get to wrestle until 3:00 pm.  He won his only two matches, and the other 3 matches in his weight class that he was supposed to have had, left because they got tired of waiting.  I have found that the AAU is a good chance for kids to wrestle and improve out of season, but they are run very inefficiently.  That may be ok on occasion, but we have a 90 minute drive to Louisville, and that means getting up early on Saturday.  This Saturday, the wrestler got up at 5:30 am, got to Louisville by 8 am, and sat around for 7 hours before getting to wrestle. There should be a better way to schedule these. This is an honor student, with much homework to do, wasting 7 hours on a Saturday.  It's one thing to wrestle, wait, wrestle, wait, but to have to do nothing for 7 hours before getting to wrestle is an inefficient way to do things.

We have talked about splitting the times next year with Freestyle and Sombo in the morning and Folkstyle in the afternoon.  Another way to assure you don't wait 7 hours is to sign up for the other styles.  If your son would have wrestled freestyle or greco he would not have had to wait very long for his first match.  We also talked about bringing another group of refs in for the folkstyle part of the tournament.  The refs did an excellent job with the greco and freestyle portion but it definately seemed like they lost interest when it came to folkstyle.  The ref on our mat kept leaving between matches and one of the coaches stepped up to ref some matches for us.

This drives me nuts!

People in this state whine because our state's wrestler's are not recognized enough and because we don't have enough wrestling tournaments and because enough teams haven't picked up the sport, then they whine about driving a lowly 90 minutes to get to a tournament and wait on wrestling.

The wrestlers in other states haven't become good because they sit at home on a Saturday or only go to the meets that are close.  They hit all the wrestling events they can and wait all they need to in order to get that one extra match that may put them over the top.  My kids are 4 & 6 years old and we have travelled (on multiple occasions) over 3 hours to end up with just an exhibition match.  Heck, we hit a tournament in Florida while on vacation.  So, quit whining and find a way!  Help out to make things better, set up your own local tournament / club / whatever your area needs, and be supportive, not a whiner.

Heck, I thought whining wasn't allowed in wrestling!

now that youve mentioned it,I've set up things and so have others is anyone using them NOOOOOOOO

and sorry I've been to many different kindve tournaments not just wrestling and when you sit there in your seat for 7 hours or hell even 4 to make it shorter for you it puts a wear on your body, why even compete by then, soooo lets say instead the kid gets out there and keeps warming up or roughousing around till he match comes up,also another bad thing, wasting energy

If your not used to constructive criticism this sport WILL NOT WORK OUT FOR YOU!!!

this post wasnt a stab against the hosts of the tournament or the the tournament in general because its what the kids needed, its just to better it next time so its convient for everybody

I appreciate the constructive criticism whether good or bad.  We are working on ways to make things go quicker next time.  It all boils down to getting matches and experience in the summer.  For our sport to grow we need to keep supporting the events going on in our state.  The more negative we are the more we are hurting our sport.  I gaurantee the first couple of KHSAA state tournaments had kinks.  Thanks and I will continue to listen.

Did they have all 4 styles going on at once?  All of the USAW tournaments I've been to they have not done this.  Splitting the styles into their own session is definitely the way to go.

We signed up for all three styles and only got 2 folkstyle matches. We did not know there was anyone in his class until late in the afternoon when they posted the brackets. we tryed to get a match with the weight below us and the class below and above us. For some reason no one wanted to wrestle. I hope the turnout gets bigger because we will probably go back next year. We have been wrestling freestyle for a while and my son said he was a little confused a couple times and had to remember what he was doing. We paln on hitting all the tournaments in Ky we can and hopefully he gets more matches.
