KentuckyWrestling.com HS Rankings - 2006/2007 January 3

Recommended Posts

I missed the WCI for the first time in a number of years so I don't have the complete results reflected.  If anyone has a completed bracket that they can fax or if someone at Woodford County would be kind enough to email it to me I would greatly appreciate it.

The big news of the week is the Wayne County trio of Sullivan, Daniels, and Vinsant are dropping.  I've been hearing rumors for a few weeks, but they all weighed in this weekend about a pound over the lower weights, probably because of the weight loss plan.

I am expanding this week to the top 25 at each weight and top 40 teams.  Things get a lot more fuzzy at this level.

food for thought------------- Team Rankings

St. Xavier beat No. Oldham 53-12, beat campbell co 47 - 23 , in the Jeff Classic 16 team tournment finished higher than oldham co.

but you have those three teams ranked higher in the polls.

St. xavier has lost to seneca 2 x, lost the so. oldham, lost to fern creek.

Just wondering if you read the results page?

I have read many results pages.  How do you think I am doing this.  Have you read many of the previous 100,000+ posts on here?  This has been addressed about a thousand times.  The team rankings are completely independent of a dual meet.  I am projecting the team scores at the state tournament based on individual finishes from the rankings.  In duals, team points are different, kids bump around at different weights, etc, etc.  It's just a different animal.

Guiler beat Likoy to face rupp in the finals of WCI so he should be a little higher

I wasn't sure about that.  I know they have split a few matches.  The one I saw personally at Bourbon Likoy seemed to win pretty easily.  Sounds like they are a toss-up.

Just a few things for the PRP kids.

103  Jacob Shely is in 8th grade

119  Jacob Colston dec 8-3 Abdul Aghil (PDUN) at WCI.  Maybe he should be higher or Aghil lower.

135  Donald Phillips pined both BJ Robinson (ANCO) and Hunter Durden (SOUT) at WCI.

Thanks

I am very suprised about the Wayne kids dropping. I just can't see Sullivan at 103 again but especially not Daniels at 112. He seemed to be a decently big 119.

Ranger, the rankings look good as always.  Thanks again for taking the time to post these for all of us (wrestlers, coaches, parents, etc.)  By the way, I understand how you do the rankings and that they are based on individual results not team duals so I won't be the 10,000th person to ask you.  Also, to everyone else, there will always be a lot of "This guy beat this guy who then beat this guy, so why isn't he ranked."  If I'm not mistaken, these rankings are done based on results for the whole year, right?  Not just one weekend.

Daniel Weixler from Fern Creek has beaten both Ethan Miller from Woodford and the PRP kid, but has lost to them both too, but he has also beaten Badgett from Bulluit Central, which I don't think the other two have.

James Badgett is dropping to 103.

I think you have to consider the big picture with the 135 weight class (especially in region 3)

Phillips then lost to BulCent who won beat Durden by one point the night before and Durden had 102 temp and the stomach flu.  Durden is badly injured his shoulder early in the match against Phillips-he should have stopped the match but did not-now that being said it is still awin for Phillips but that may not propell him over Durden in the overall rankings if you look at the whole season.

You are correct.  Although coming up big (or choking) at a big tournament like WCI or Jeff County or Dragon is like bonus points.

With top 40 teams ranked Nky has all but one team in the rankings (Newport)

Boy sure does get blurry after 25.

Yes, I agree.  I think it is okay up to about 35, but after that we are talking about teams with just a few wins at state and one or two extra wins (or pins) can move you above a lot of teams.  I included the top 40 so everyone would know where a few teams are standing right now.  That way we can see where teams like Conner and Bullitt Central that have some talent and have been in the rankings are right now.

Southern135;

You could take your whole team to the state tourney, but if they don't win a match then they score zero points.

Whereas a team could have one kid on the team, take one kid to the state tournament and score 34 (if he pins everyone and is state champ.)

You would defeat this team in a dual 78 to 6 but lose to them in the state tourney.

A good example of this is Meade Co.  They are a 1st year team that has a full squad (I think they have about 30 kids on their team).  They defeat the teams in duals that have only 3-7 wrestlers, but loose to bigger teams.

In a individual bracket tourney however many of those smaller teams will defeat Meade Co. because they have almost all 1st year wrestlers that will not win many matches.

Hope this clears things up for the 1000th time.

Hey Ranger you might solve these questions by adding a dual team rankings at the end also.  (Just a thought)
