There is no agenda attached! I think the entire state needs to know what is on the agenda and what is being voted on!

VOTE: - Post season format – Option 1 (district/Region/State)  Option 2 (Region/State, only 2 entries per team, per weight class in Region)

VOTE: - Keep 2lbs Growth allowance

VOTE: - Add 13/14 Age Group to Youth State Tournament (Yes / No)

I like Option 1.  Some of the bigger teams send more than 2 kids per class.  Kids shouldn't be punished in Middle School for being on a good team.  That will happen soon enough.

I'm not a fan of the Growth Allowance.  It is used more for weight cutting than it is for growth.

13/14 age group is middle school.  I think youth state should be K-6 with a max age.  If you are in the 7th grade you are Middle School and no longer youth.

Coaches,

In response to the USA Wrestling Cards issue that was discussed at the meeting please see the below response from Keith Smith.

Coaches,

I apologize for not attending yesterday's association meeting. I need to put out a correction to the youth/MS registration for USA Wrestling. Oct 31th deadline only effects those teams that have not chartered and have not began entering there team members. If they have an active club charter and active members, they can continue with entering the $15 league membership online. after October 31st deadline, the Club Charter price remains to same but coaches or parents will need to purchase full membership cards online. The $15 card will not be an option on the USAW membership site.

This change has been implemented because of the different levels of secondary sports insurance coverage with the $15 and the $45 cards. because many clubs are waiting to long to meet USAW insurance requirements by not having an active Chartered Club with active membership cards. Teams starting practice without "Active Coverage" are, and have been an added liability to USAW and its members. This is not punishment for late registration, but rather USAW protecting its membership.

It is required that all teams Chartered and all members have an active membership card after 1st week of practice. This gives coaches a 1 week grace period to have all team members registered. Add-on's  can be added at any time with an active club membership. You do not need to have all team members at practice to register your wrestlers. Add them as they come out.

*A Registration reminder,

1. Coaches/Teams who choose to start registration late in the season (after 31 October)  The $15 league card will not be available. You will need to purchase online the full membership $45. ( the $15 league card will be available again for the post season on March 1st.) The league card as well as the full membership card are good from September 1st -thru- August 31st of each year.

2. The "Youth League" mirrors the Middle School associations registration for USAW. The only difference is that the "Youth Association Only" will have until *15 November to Charter and register for there  $15 league card.

3. All cards ( League or Full Membership) have there own self identifying ID # on them. Please give a copy of the card to the parent or wrestler. have them go to the USAW web site and register on the site so they can update their information, sign the online waiver, and download there card.

4. Coaches that are renewing or registering there wrestlers for the first time please "assign them to your club" on the profile page at the bottom and save. If the wrestler is not assigned to your club, then you will have to search for them under all Kentucky wrestlers and can be time consuming.

5. Please forward this to coaches or email me with questions.  This will affect many programs if this is not shared with all coaches. Please forward to all coaches and team administrators.

Thanks for your support,

Just for my own clarification, so if I have a chartered club that is not solely youth as long as I begin registration before the 31st I can continue adding new members for the 15 dollar cards? I ask because it specifically mentions "Youth League" dates which I do not fall under, yet most of my kids trickle in past the 31st, with only a few that will definitely be registered prior to.

Thanks.

Answer:

One Charter can cover both your Middle school and Youth teams as long as everyone wrestling on the mat has an active membership (league card or higher), yes. you can continue with adding membership after 31 October. This is mainly for schools or clubs that practice and compete all season long and only get cards and a charter for there club right before  post season tournaments.  This practice puts our whole association at risk of great liability.

Per KHSAA Commissioner, Middle School and Youth Wrestling Programs are not covered under the schools catastrophic Insurance policy either during the HS Wrestling Season or Post Season Club and Open Mats. This is why it's important to cover your wrestling team, school, school district, private buildings, etc. with a club charter, a sanction of event with USAW liability issuance. USAW liability insurance meet insurance requirements nationally and with our KY School districts with the fee good for the year.

I don't comment on the Middle/Youth forum much.

The one thing I really don't understand is why the Middle school rules and regulations don't mirror the high school rules and regulations.

1. The High school has a growth allowance do middle school should have one. (Does not the middle school have to have skin folds this year?)

2.  Age should correspond with high school.  (High school states:  If a students turns 19 prior to August 1st they are ineligible for the entire year.) Therefore Middle school would be turn 15 prior to August 1st ineligible for middle school: Youth, turn 13 prior to August 1st to be eligible.

3.  Now post season may not be able to follow the high school.  Numbers or wrestlers per team, number of teams ect. ect. (and like it or not youth and middle school are training grounds for high school). And before anyone gets there feathers ruffled.  GOO Jr. went through the youth and middle school, and I coached along with him all the way through graduation and still believed youth and middle were just to get him ready for high school.

Now I have no idea how the voting went, but would like to know.
