FalconWrestling 147 Report post Posted March 18, 2013 There aren't any D1 programs in Florida or Georgia and other southeastern states. This refers to high school origin
Nkawtg 137 Report post Posted March 20, 2013 There aren't any D1 programs in Florida or Georgia and other southeastern states. This refers to high school origin There is a DI program in the southeast. It's The Citadel in South Carolina. Thanks for clarifying it's the state from which they attended high school. The Citadel's three are from Michigan, Florida, and NJ (by way of Mongolia).
FalconWrestling 147 Report post Posted March 20, 2013 I know every D1 program there is since there aren't many. Ugi (the Mongolian) is one of my favorite wrestlers to watch. But ya my syntax was pretty ambiguous. I like how Kentucky has a lot more total qualifiers then states that talk smack about us.
Mpire 76 Report post Posted March 20, 2013 A D1. , champ would shut a lot of people up !!!!
Nkawtg 137 Report post Posted March 20, 2013 Cornell had a national champ a few years back from Tennessee. Jordan Leen, unless I'm mistaken.
FalconWrestling 147 Report post Posted March 20, 2013 Yes Jordan Leen was from Tenessee, Franklin Gomez was from Florida by way of Puerto Rico, and there were two southern Olympians on the Olympic team (Haze and Frayer from Florida). That is off the top of my head, pretty sure there are a couple more. I think Mpire was referring to Kentucky's need for a national champ though
freemove 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2013 I think leen was from soddy daisy high school.

halfhalfhalf 121 Report post Posted March 20, 2013 Christian brothers. Jake Yost is the only notable soddy daisy guy I can think of Matt Keller was Bradley central
FalconWrestling 147 Report post Posted March 20, 2013 I think one key point from this is that Kentucky's focus seems to be almost entirely on NAIA (most likely from our 3 NAIA programs). I would greatly prefer to see more athletes strive for NCAA teams. I think in D3 there is just Tyler Kaelin, Will Bryant, and I. Not sure if we have anyone competing in D2 right now. halfhalfhalf 121 Report post Posted March 21, 2013 This 2013 class has how many going d1- Wade Willen SIUE Jerry Haywood ODU SAM ??? Who else? D2- D3- NAIA-
halfhalfhalf 121 Report post Posted March 21, 2013 Personally I believe if U of L were to add wrestling the state of KY wrestling would only become stronger. Especially in Louisville. If you need to see results look up Tennessee. McCallie, Baylor, Notre Dame, Bradley Central, Cleveland and Soddy Daisy have benefitted from UTC.
