    Female Qualifiers And Etc.

So we had 5 All Americans. 3 from above plus Courtney Pittman and Hope Miracle. That's awesome. I only wish we could have had a Team Kentucky. This way I could have seen all the girls from Kentucky competing. Not necessarily had team gear and all that, just all registered under one team. I just happened to stumble across Hope and Lauren on Track. If I had known the Messerly girls were there I would have followed and cheered them on as well. At this point it is hard to compare ourselves to other states. We are in our early stages of female wrestling. I have seen major growth in female wrestling the last 3 years I have coached. We are headed towards having a female division but it is going to take time and a lot more numbers. I have a hard time disagreeing withBraves Coach wrestling the boys makes them better. The majority of Courtney's matches she looked like the stronger wrestler. This comes from wrestling young men. Once the numbers are high enough you can have a female state tournament. Once there I also invision an overlap for at least several years where the females could compete in both. It would be nice to have a female wrestling state representative. Maybe somebody that coaches and has daughters that wrestle. I nominate Braves Coach! Lol.

    State Medals

GOO or maybe someone else can correct me if I am wrong but I believe in the early 90's both finalists received a framed picture of their faceoff. I thought this was great. They stopped by the time I was in high school. As the competition in our state improves so should the recognition and honor for our state placers. I am glad to see the KYWCA is moving in a positive direction.

    Consistency

As the coach of the subject wrestler I take most of the responsibility for the situation that happened Saturday. I am completely aware of the rules and failed to make corrections as needed. Officials typically do not weigh in our female athletes. it is usually a female parent that is willing to help us out. As a coach once weigh ins are over you just assume everyone is good to go. Our female wrestler has worn this same shirt since the beginning of the season and I really have not paid much attention to it. This situation was definitely a learning experience for myself, the wrestler and her parents. I don't disagree at all with the refs decision. I just wish this had been caught earlier in the season by other officials. Once you are one week away from post season you assume what you have been doing all year is OK. I know I have used ASSUME twice now. This is my third year coaching and all three years I have seen the rules more heavily enforced at the end of the season compared to the beginning. This is something I have come to accept and expect. Overall I have been happy with officials this year. I think KWOA is working hard to attract quality officials and bring consistency to our sport. In the end I have to agree with Wrestledad. I do see inconsistency throughout the year.

  8. I love that this thread is turning into positive ideas for female wrestling. The Anderson and Woodford coaches have briefly discussed something similar to Team KY. Anderson would be willing to host a female dual meet if we can get neighboring states to put a team together and travel. I foresee the host site rotating from state to state. As word spread more states would get involved. It would be great to see how our girls stacked up against the rest of the country. It would start small but we have to start somewhere.
  9. I coach the Anderson County girl. She has a highly competitive spirit and works extremely hard. I believe this was disrespectful to not wrestle her. She doesn't want a free win. She wants to compete and earn her wins. I love seeing all these wonderful young ladies get on the mat and compete. It may not happen in my life time but I look forward to the day when we can have a female league. Although I do not understand the religious view I respect others religious beliefs. I agree River City is a top notch program and I'm sure disrespect was not intended. Congratulations to all the young ladies who kicked butt this weekend.
