    State Finals Video

I spoke with one of the Coaches from Male high School he informed me the KHSAA is implementing a seeding for football the criteria is on their web sight.

When I called and talked to Mike Barren about when they (KHSAA) was planning on posting the wrestling finals his response was I don't remember if it was recorded. He then had to ask someone else in the office if it was recorded. Then he explained that a group I'm not sure of the initials FHSA or something like that records sports around the state and that there was a subscription cost of 10.00 to view it and that they felt it wouldn't generate enough revenue so they didn't record it. So The representative for wrestling at the KHSAA didn't know if the finals were recorded. These are the same people that won't seed the state tournament. Now we use Track through out the year so the tournament could be seeded fairly easy and streamed at each table through out the tournament and the finals. This past state meet they had to almost beg to go down to one mat for the finals. I was told they had a time schedule to keep and going down to one mat would slow that down and keep them from getting finished and out of the arena on time. If you remember the year before the officials had to roll up the mats at the end of the tournament now that took about 45 minutes to an hour. This year the coaches rolled all the mats up but one for the finals in ten minutes which theoretically would get them out earlier and made the finals better. My point is there is logical realistic way to improve the state meet making it a better experience for everyone involved. An example of how contradictory they are funds were raised to the have medals made and to purchase brackets that represent the work the boys put in rather than the bus token the KHSAA gives out. The KHSAA said they couldn't give them out on the podium so this last year they were made into plaques. The reason was that it wouldn't be fair to other sports that don't have the revenue to do that. So if their goal is everyone gets the same thing why are the basketball and football tournaments seeded and recorded. If we can't have someone at the KHSAA that has this sports best interest in mind. We can at least let them know what changes we are looking for as a group. Now I don't know how to do this but I think an online petition needs to be started with the changes that need to occur (seeding, video, location ect.). Having coaches parent ect. sighing it would have a stronger impact than one call hear and there. There is strength in numbers.

I spoke with the KHSAA and they did not record it. The NFHS typically records it and they felt there was not a high enough viewer ship.
  6. The definition of sportsmanship/character was shown in the 145 finals. After Nate Wheeler’s hand was raise Nathaniel Lawrence raised Nate’s hand acknowledging his win. Then in the back warmup area Nathaniel came to me and congratulated me and hugged me and thanked me for working with him this summer and said “Nate is the only person I could lose to and not be upset because I know how hard he’s worked for this.” He didn’t refuse to shake hands, throw his head gear or blame somebody for the loss. He acknowledged his opponents victory which in turn took away what he worked for that’s character. To top it off as I was walking up the stairs Ms. Lawrence waived at me and her and her husband met me at the top of the stairs and hugged me and congratulated me on the win and said thank you for working with their son they also spoke with my wife. This is the definition of Character/ Sportsmanship from an outstanding young man and his family. Who to watch

Watch for this Name M.Hall from South Oldham
  8. It's great we had three place first and a forth. Let's look at the tournament overall. I can only comment on what I saw. K. Kulmer I only saw one of his matches but he looked like a freight train he ran through the kid he wrestled. W. Andreoni can wrestle with any one he was had some great matches, two college coaches asked me about him. Several of the lighter weights from Trinity and St-X won matches. R.Morgan, M. Ocasio, C. Fink and J. McClintic both went 3-2. There was a huge improvement overall in the level of wrestling from our state. I watched several go 0-2 last year. As for the brackets I understand you can't separate kids from one state but at 141 all of them on one side is not good. In the seeding criteria it asks that you put which school or club you are with so they can separate those kids. So two at 148 same club meet in the quarters, so apparently that didn't apply. In the big picture our state is improving each year. Great Job Guys

    College Combine

This past summer I took my son to a college combine in NJ. We met with several coaches that shared that they struggle to get front of large groups of good kids to recruit from. So Next Level Wrestling club and Invicta wrestling academy will be hosting a Wrestling College Combine April 14-15. "there is a misconception by by many kids that they need to be a state champion or a national placer to wrestle in college. We want kids that want to compete in college that we can develop. Good grades help we just coach-able kids that are willing to do the work". Once we confirm all of the colleges I will post a list. That should be available after the College Nationals Wrestling Combine Next Level Wrestling and INVICTA Wrestling clubs will be hosting a Wrestling combine April 14-15. Our goal is to have 20-25 different colleges D1 through NAIA and 40 wrestlers attend this event. This event is open to Incoming Freshman through Seniors. This will be an opportunity to meet with coaches from different colleges and for them to see you perform. The format will be two days with half the coaches each day. The sessions will consist of skill test, drilling and lots of live wrestling. Each wrestler will receive two t-shirts one for each day their name and weight will be on the back so coaches can identify them. The shirts will be color coordinated for their grade. There will be a bio sheet on each wrestler each coach will receive a folder with a copy of all the wrestler’s bio’s. In between each session coaches will have a chance to speak about their program and what their college has to offer.
