cougars_119 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2011 How do seeding meetings work? Whats the criteria for seeding wrestlers? I know if wrestler A beats wrestler B wrestler A get the better seed but how do you determin seeds when wrestlers have not wrestled each other or any common opponents. coach brown 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2011 Usually best record. Example wrestler A has 20-1 record which is 95% winning percentage and B has a 30-3 record which is 90% Wrestler A gets the higher seed.
ccwrestler^oldschool 10 Report post Posted January 23, 2011 I think it is usually best record and most wins.Example a kid who is 6-0 would not necessarily get a better seed than a wrestler who is 30-1.
Josh_Claywell 52 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 This usually only happens -- at least from what I've witnessed with the coaches/teams I cover -- when you get into the lower seeds.
Zeus 117 Report post Posted January 25, 2011 The first two factors are win percentage and number of wins, however that is not the only thing. For example one of our wrestlers had only lost once but to one of the best wrestlers in the state and was seeded 2nd or 3rd at a tournament, I forget exactly. However the other two guys had not wrested this guy yet, in fact they hadn't wrestled anyone good yet. Because we brought this up we ended up getting the one seed over the other two guys. It turned out to be the right decision because they finished exactly how they were seeded.Another factor is head-to-head meetings. For example if our wrestler has beaten another guy but he has a better record then we should get the better seed. Many times this is the second factor behind number of wins/win percentage. The third factor is usually common opponents which I kind of explained above. If our wrestler beats a guy who then beats you then we should usually get the higher seed. The thing you have to keep in mind is this is not an exact science and it's impossible to get it perfect. Sometimes they only use records from current weight class, sometimes they use season record regardless of weight. In region 8 which I believe you are part of, as you said, if A beat B, A will get the better seed. After that they use common opponents. Next would be who they have wrestled who is good and how they did. If there is no discernable criteria they fall back on % wins.
