Region 1 Rankings Week 6 (1/12)

Recommended Posts

A couple weight changes but unless I wasn't paying attention when I first glanced at results there shouldn't be a lot of changes. Union County crushed at G.P. West one of the biggest tournaments in Tennessee and everyone seems to be scrambling to justify how that happened "McCallie didn't bring their best kids" being the most popular excuse alongside "Father Ryan Invitational took away competition." Regardless of those arguments that's impressive for Union County and sets them up very highly for the state tournament. Not sure if I have results from all teams so bare with me if I missed something.

106

1. Saul Ervin, Union County (1)

2. Kaleb Sapp, Ohio County (2)

3. Kaleb Hammons, Caldwell County (4)

4. Edward Agulto, Christian County (3)

5. Ray Hamilton, Paducah Tilghman (5)

6. James McDow, Hopkinsville (6)

Dropped Out- None

Hammons with a 7-6 win over Agulto.

113

1. Luis Regaldo, Fort Campbell (1)

2. Micah Ervin, Union County (2)

3. Daniel Knight, Christian County (3)

4. Austin Zeppes, Calloway County (5)

5. Dakota Himes, Ohio County (4)

6. Dale Robertson, Hopkinsville (6)

Dropping Out- None

Micah and Regaldo both had big wins in Tennessee, Micah at Brentwood and Regaldo at Father Ryan. Zeppes picks up a win over Himes showing just how insanely close 3-5 is, one of these very tough three is going to miss state.

120

1. Bryce Sheffer, Union County (1)

2. Alex Curl, Fort Campbell (2)

3. Jacob Bellah, Calloway County (3)

4. Devontae Turner, Trigg County (4)

5. Froilan Agulto, Christian County (5)

6. Cameron Dearmond, Hoptown (6)

Dropping Out- None

No changes this week as everyone beat who they were supposed to.

126

1. Jeremiah Kline, Trigg County (1)

2. Scott Ruttman, Calloway County (3)

3. Daniel Dyess, UHA (2)

4. Camerin Cole, Christian County (4)

5. Rylan Ervin, Union County (5)

6. Zlatko Skuljen, Hoptown (UR)

Dropping out- McCoy, Ohio

McCoy hasn't wrestled for awhile so he drops out. Calloway continues to fire on all cylinders as Ruttman takes down Dyess.

132

1. Chance Oxford, Union County (1)

2. Chance Collins, UHA (2)

3. Justin Crabtree, Trigg (UR)

4. Jack Haynes, Calloway County (3)

5. Kestin McClain, McCracken County (5)

6. Gideon Ellison, Fort Campbell (6)

Dropping Out- Stevens, Trigg

Crabtree gets the nod for Trigg and the win over Haynes

138

1. BJ Miller, Ohio County (1)

2. Derek Miller, Paducah Tilghman (2)

3. Tim Pike, Union County (3)

4. Logan Thomas, Calloway County (4)

5. Dalton Putty, UHA (5)

6. Diion Leavell, Christian County (6)

Dropped Out- None

Nothing to change as far as I have seen but Pike had a monster G.P. West and will be a serious threat to the Miller's at regions.

145

1. Nicholas Walls, Calloway County (2)

2. Malik Cunningham, Trigg County (3)

3. Kobe Perry, Christian County (1)

4. Braden Sperry, Caldwell County (5)

5. Corbin Ryder, Fort Campbell (4)

6. Blake Brown, Ohio County (UR)

Dropping Out- Martin, McCracked

Sperry has put me in the exact same impossible situation I found myself at 170 a couple weeks back, he has only beaten one guy ranked above him, problem is that guy is Kobe Perry. So if I bump Sperry over people he has never beaten how is that fair? But if I leave him so low then he gets no credit for beating Perry twice. I don't expect anyone to be happy with how this weight is filled out this week. Just know that the top 5 at 145 has now gotten very interesting and all of these kids are now region title threats. Edit- Realized I've been forgetting about Blake Brown. This adds another ridiculous situation where Sperry has lost to every guy at this weight except for Kobe Perry who was ranked first. So forget what I said about top 5, the top 6 at 145 is a jumbled mess

152

1. Jackson Oxford, Union County (1)

2. Dylan Gray, Caldwell County (2)

3. Ivan Lawson, Hoptown (3)

4. Mario Perez, Calloway County (4)

5. Josh McCoy, Ohio County (5)

6. Christian Barefield, UHA (6)

Dropping Out- none

I didn't see anything this week

160

1. Kenneth Sells, Christian County (1)

2. Nate Williams, Hoptown (2)

3. Avery Buckman, Union County (3)

4. Will Crabtree, UHA (4)

5. Alex Hideg, McCracken County (5)

6. Jaishon Faishon, Trigg County (6)

Dropping Out- none

Nothing new here to my knowledge.

170

1. Isaiah Lawson, Hoptown (1)

2. Gino Haywood, Fort Campbell (3)

3. David Woods, Calloway County (4)

4. Alex Billiter, Christian County (UR)

5. Seth Estes, McCracken County (5)

6. Ryan Hedrick, Union County (6)

Dropping Out- Sells, Christian

I haven't seen a Sells result since CCI so he is out for now, but one of those situations that if he comes back he gets his old spot back so keep him in mind. Lawson keeps the nod over Haywood based off of common opponents.

182

1. Xavier Pate, Christian County (1)

2. Kane Morris, Union County (2)

3. Conner Keenan, Fort Campbell (3)

4. Katayvon Anthony, Hoptown (6)

5. Cody Jackson, Calloway County (4)

6. Tige Littlefield. Caldwell County (5)

Dropping Out-

Still no Morris drop yet so he stays in 2nd. Anthony picks up a win over Jackson.

195

1. Cole Sherman, Union County (1)

2. Phil Bradley, UHA (2)

3. Eugene Butler, Hoptown (3)

4. Dylan Marlow, Ohio County (4)

5. Anthony Adkinson, Fort Campbell (5)

6. Josh Efinger, Calloway County (6)

Dropping Out- none

Nothing of note

220

1. Conner Sherman, Union County (1)

2. Zach Farris, Ohio County (2)

3. Chance Orr, Paducah Tilghman (4)

4. Colby Culver, Calloway County (3)

5. Marcus Green, Christian County (5)

6. Michael Bruce, Hoptown (UR)

Dropping Out- McGregor, Caldwell

Haven't seen McGregor wrestle lately. Orr wins over Culver.

285

1. Raynel Brown, Union County (1)

2. Luke Shaffer, Ohio County (2)

3. David Nikolao, Fort Campbell (4)

4. Logan Thomas, Hopkinsville (5)

5. Mahlon Ray, Christian County (6)

6. David Clark, Calloway County (UR)

Dropping Out- Lee, McCracken

Lee suffers from the "disappeared" curse and thus drops out of the rankings.

Team

1. Union County (46)

Impressive results at G.P. West give Union County the momentum heading into the home stretch of the season

2. Christian County (19)

With Sells out of the rankings the gap between second and thread greatly shrunk, not time to panic in Hopkinsville though. County still looks very solid.

3. Calloway County (18.5)

These past few weeks have been outstanding for Calloway who is looking to be this year's Hoptown.

4(t). Fort Campbell (16.5)

Fort Campbell and Hoptown are tied for 4th here, I give Fort Campbell first billing because I feel bad over Ryder getting the short end of the mess at 145. Hoptown has all the pieces there for a second place run, they are one of those teams that seems to be improving every match. Ohio has some bad luck this week and is far better than 6th place. Trigg and UHA lead the rest of the team just outside of a Top 5 finish. Caldwell got big wins out of Sperry and if he continues to perform they could move up. Paducah has tough kids, just not a full lineup. McCracken is having a tough time keeping their best kids on the mat, hoping for the best from our youngest team. Edit- Ohio now also tied for 4th

4(t). Hoptown (16.5)

4(t). Ohio County (16.5)

7. Trigg County (11.5)

8. UHA (10)

9. Caldwell County (6.5)

10. Paducah Tilghman (5.5)

11. McCracken County (1.5)

Team rankings???

Ohio finished a close third behind Hopkinsville and Christian Co at the Toyota of Hopkinsville.

Then this past weekend won Steve Johnson at Paducah Tilghman by a large margin over Calloway co and other Region 1 teams.

See those little numbers? I post those numbers so you know the exact score I calculated for the team. (1st- 5 points, 2nd- 3 points, 3rd- 2 points, 4th- 1 points, 5th/6th- .5 points). I use that formula to keep my team rankings purely objective, it's not a perfect formula but it has done well the past few years.

Also regular season tournament finishes aren't always the best way to determine postseason finishes. Kids will score more team points then they would at regionals because the guy who would beat them is not at the tournament. For example, Sapp would win nearly every tournament except for one where Saul Ervin is, so at regionals Sapp would score less points for Ohio than normal

2nd-6th is separated by only 3 points which is minuscule

i know,....everyone's a critic. I do enjoy looking at your rankings and appreciate you doing them, I just think a little too much credit is given to some, and not enough to others. As they say....time will tell. That's why they wrestle the matches. But really, thanks for doing the rankings, all in all a great job.

And...I did see those little numbers and get the system!!

Is there a result I missed?

Found it, Blake Brown, god 145 is a mess.

You think 145 is a mess wait until Ryder drops to 138! I spoke with the head coach for Ft Campbell up at Region Duals and he said, Ryder would be making the move to 138 a couple weeks out from regions. If that is the case you will have two weight classes that become a nightmare. Looks like region 1 is going to become very interesting. So my guess is there really is no ranking at 138 and 145 until the smoke clears!

I have heard of a possibility Grey drops to 145. Both weight classes are a gauntlet honestly think Ryder would have a better shot at state at 152.

The two Millers at 138 have been warriors this year. It's going to take someone very special to beat them. I think both will go real far at State as long as they stay healthy.

After looking at the rosters coaches are sending in for the Tiger Invitational things should be interesting. FalconWrestling will definetely be back at the drawing board but the good thing is the kids will end up ranking themselves. Thanks for putting a running list together throughout the season. Fans, coaches, and the kids enjoy it.

From what I've seen and put together in research on trackwrestling,  the 138 weight class at the Tiger Invite is off the charts. That'll be the weight class I want to watch for the best wrestling...if everyone shows up

I think 145 will be interesting Kobe Perry, Dylan Grey and Nick Walls with regional seeding implications on the line

Hoptown was a good tourney and outside of a few teams not being there provided a glimpse of how competitive the region tournament will be this year. Looking forward to the next set of rankings!
