Greatest of all time per wt. class (Region 6)

Recommended Posts

Ok I was bored, i started wondering who the all times greates would be per wt. class. I thought it would be easier to find the region all time greats first.

This it the weight classes by year (I know.  I'm a nerd)

                                                                  Weight classes by year

1964-68   1969        1970     ^1971-87     1988-94  1995     1996-2001  *2002-11  2012---

                                                                Hwt          Hwt          215          215          220

                                                                                                Hwt          Hwt          Hwt

So as not to have two wt. classes from a single year represented. I came up with these wt. Classes for this poll.

1.  (95-100)

2.  (103-107)

3.  (112-115)

4.  (119-123)

5.  (125-127)

6.  (130-134)

7.  (135-138)

8.  (140-142)

9.  (145-151)

10 (152-155)

11. (160-167)

12. (170-180)

13.  (182-189)

14.  (215-195)

15.  (220-Hwt) (Until 1988 max in Hwt was 250lbs)

Who do you nominate?  We can use the current regional alignment.  Since I'm a NKY weirdo we will use this one for region 6.

I would have to agree that Austin Myers is number one since he won 4 regional titles at 220. People feared him. I wouldn’t have wanted to wrestle him.

Region 6 has historically been the toughest region in the state. We have had some dominant kids that come out of region 6. I will only speak on the last 10 years.

Garth yenter, Sean Fausz, Clay Brown, Kevin Cooper and Casey Cornett come to mind. They all have multiple state titles and we’re fortunate enough wrestle D1 in college.  Casey and Fausz have multiple placements at National Events

The next group from region 6 in my opinion is Tanner Yenter, Brady Wells, Ryan Moore, and Mason Smith.

As far as the success outside of the state from region 6 it has to go to Austin Myers 3x NHSCA champ, NHSCA runner up, Flo Champ, multiple Fargo AA’s.

Ryan Moore would be a close 2nd. 4x NHSCA placer, 3x Flo Placer, Fargo AA.

Call me homer but I will throw Mason’s name out there for success outside the state. 2x NHSCA finalist, Flo Nationals AA, Cliff Keen preseason nations AA.

I would love to hear some more names. I can tell you all these guys were fun to watch but my family goes way back to the 80’s as far as following wrestling. I have a brother that is 8 years older and I grew up with all the tough wrestlers from Conner in the 80’s. They would all hangout at my house and I thought they were tough as they come. So for any old timers I’m sure you all remember Todd and Troy Cole, Jay Hargis, and the rest of the beast from Conner. I still joke with Troy that this generation of wrestlers would have kicked their butts.

Early 80's Conner and Boone battled.  (Boone) Joe Archer, Mike McDaniels, Kevin Robb, Andy Mulcahy. Strawn Nutter. (Conner) Robbie Clarkston, Kelly Stickrod, Todd Cole, Troy Cole, Jeff Lawrence, Matt Shotwell.

Late 80's became a battleground between Conner, Campbell, and Simon Kenton. (Conner) John Wyan, Rob Madden, Pat Martz, Craig Burtleson,(Campbell) Matt Shearer with a strong overall team not many super standouts. (Simon) Jamie Baugh, David Fuehner, David Barns, With other solid kids on the team.

All these names need considering.  Mostly Strawn Nutter, Robbie Clarkston, Troy Cole, John Wyan, Pat Martz, David Barns. (no particular order).

I thought of a few more names that were dominate in Region 6.

Mike and Matt Lee.  They were wrestling varsity at an early age for a very tough Simon Kenton team.

Logan Erdman was one of the most talented wrestlers I have ever seen.  Man I loved watching him wrestle.

Frank was during my time. I remember the talk was always frank vs Dion Washington.  I believe frank beat him twice. Frank was probably giving up 50lbs to most heavies, but was to fast for most of them.
