NCAA Coaches and RPI rankings

Recommended Posts

New NCAA D1 Coaches and RPI rankings are out.

A couple of Kentucky boys making the rankings .

With the current emphasis on stats being in the spotlight on this forum it is interesting to see one wrestler in particular coming in at 24 in the RPI rankings  that are based solely on wins stats and strength of  his schedule in his weight class.

RPI is one-third of the equation. NCAA takes coaches poll, RPI, and W-L record into consideration. If listed in all three a wrestler is considered "gold" and will get a bid. "Silver" means listed in two and probably gets in. "Bronze" means listed in one and unlikely to get in.

I.believe the post was talking about  who was ranked in the polls and not the process of making ncaas in wrestlinv itself .The RPI ranking that is  used soley by most if not all othet NCAA sports in.determining who is ranked and who makes their varilous bowls.and championships is a formula that takes into consideration wins and losses verses opponents who are themselves ranked and.their own.wins.and.losses vs other opponents .Obviously RPI already takes into consideration.wins.and.losses .

For example somoene could have a 21 and 8 record and another person a 12 and 12 record but the 12.and 12.record athlete faced and.had wins.and losses against tougher comp so.he gets the higher RPI based on.the formula .

So yes they use both polls and wins.vs losses but the RPI already has a formula in.place for wins.and losses to begin with .Many would rather see RPI used soley to.determine.ncaa bids just like in.Basketball !!A wrestler like an Austin Myers on.a schedule that is loaded has a big RPI if he has enough wins against top comp.that is why he is the Highest Ranked college wrestler from KY in.the RPI his schedule was far tougher and his wins.were higher quality .

THE COACHES POLL AND WINS VS LOSSES ARE BOTH SUBJECT TO OPININION AS FAR AS A COACHES PREFERENCE OF A CERTAIN WRESTLER OR THE QUALITY OF THOSE WINS AND LOSSES .

I hope that explains it a  bit  better. NIce of you to explain.the whole.process a bit otto even if your true intentions were suspect  and also with all the talk about who should be doing better or who can AA and what They should weigh BY A BUNCH OF YOUR LIKEMINDED AND SUSPECT friends I think its important to know a kid is well within ncaa bid territory on the only honest and infallible ranking system coming in at 24 as a freshman and with wrestlers who have not had 17 matches excluded he would still be well within ncaa bid numbers .

So you people keep painting the picture how you like lol but facts are facts a top 25 RPI is pretty darn good for a freshman in a class with 0 freshman ranked top 20 in most outside ncaa polls .

STAND ALONE DARE TO BE DIFFERENT BE BRAVE . running and ducking comp may help get you there but once your there reality will set in
