I Understand 100%. You have us right! 98 is shaping up to be one of the toughest weight classes for the year in my opinion. I should have probably stated previously that it wasn't just this year we had kids ranked higher that he had beat. He needs to put in the work to even get noticed so I am happy he is making some kind of name for himself. It's a tough call on rankings and one I am glad I dont have to make. I appreciate it! Prayers for you all with Noah's surgery. hoping its an easy recovery!

I always appreciate you putting these together, but I do sometimes wonder how you get the kids ranked where they are? I know most of it probably comes from track and where they place. I know with there being a lot of Dual meets this year it would be hard to keep up with who beat who and whatnot. Asking not out of disrespect but out of genuine curiosity. We follow the season pretty closely and its sometimes hard when you see a kid that your kid beat on more than one occasion ranked higher than him. That being said I like him seeing that and making sure he puts the work in to prove he is earning his spot in the rankings.

We are fortunate enough to have a year round program. We can work out and drill but we don’t usually travel and compete. I am at a disadvantage that I can’t coach my son on the mat. If so we would be all over getting the in during off season. Would be great if other clubs would be able to practice as well. I know how lucky we are to be where we are.

Exactly ... we try to focus on different muscle groups as well as strength and conditioning during off season. I was just meaning the research is out there for increased injury rates for those that focus on one sport. That being said... it’s a sport... injuries happen. I worry every time he steps on the mat bc there is no way to completely control what happens during a match.

I’m curious... what is the overall consensus for specialized sports in Ky. Do your kids wrestle year round and do no other sports? My son has always done football and wrestling, now as we look to high school we plan to focus solely on Wrestling. I’ve done some research and found studies that indicate that kids who specialize in one sport tend to have a higher injury rate. Of course with any sport injuries are expected but with Wrestling it’s a given. It’s a tough sport and that’s how it goes. I just wonder how many are like us and just plan( or have been) focusing solely on Wrestling?

2 LB Weight allowance encourages weight cutting?
Ciecon replied to Notorious's topic in Youth Wrestling
Honestly I’m not sure how I feel about it. My son has always been on the smaller size when it comes to weight but having the 2 pounds has never affected us negatively. We try to always eat healthy so that when he wrestles his body is ready, it’s gotten what it needs to be healthy. As far as people cutting... it’s what happens. It sucks and there are times I feel it goes too far but all I can do is teach my son the right way to keep his body where it needs to be. This is our last year of middle school and I am just now really seeing what an impact cutting can do. As for next year... I am worried about high school and the pressures that come with that level to maintain weight. -
jnv858 Conner looks forward to the rematch. It will be a good one for sure. One that can go either way.
