  3. Hello, How do you get a wrestler to consistently and effectively get out from the bottom position? Most wrestlers struggle when it comes to this position, but being efficient and effective truly comes down to mastering the basics. Having the proper fundamentals and hustle can go a long way for any wrestler. Check out my new article where I go over 2 wrestling moves from the bottom position that work at ALL levels: http://www.attackstylewrestling.com/wrestling-moves-from-bottom/ Thanks, Daryl Weber Gable Trained NCAA Champ Head Coach Christiansburg HS, VA 13x State Champions
  4. Hello, How do you get new wrestlers scoring points and high level wrestlers raising their bar? The two scenarios aren’t very far apart, technically. It truly comes down to learning, drilling and mastering the basics. Complexity is achieved through simplicity. Check out this free 15 minute clinic built around The Drag (one of the most basic holds.). Sign up for the FREE 15 Minute Drag Clinic here: http://www.attackstylewrestling.com/796k Learn to: · Get quick angles with proper footwork · Teach youth and HS wrestlers to always use head & hands defense first · Build an Attacking Mentality where wrestlers relentlessly look for offensive and defensive scores · Find angles off your opponents shots · Circle out of missed shots and your opponents angles properly · Drag => Leg Hook taught to me by Lincoln McIlravy, in college. (must have good footwork for this) · Stalk properly. Closing the gap with low hands and never reaching. · Chain Wrestling · Mis-Direction Set Ups · Knee pull Hi-C & Double · Far Knee Block Doubles · Importance of Head Drive on Shots · Start to learn how to penetrate with outside step · Importance of running down your angles and double finishes. · Developing spiral pressure offensively and defensively · A live drill that will pull all of this together. This may seem like a lot to accomplish in a 15 minute Drag Series, but study the video and you can see, if you worked this series relentlessly you would develop a feel for all of these skills. wrestle an attacking "gable" style

When I started coaching the high school and youth level I soon realized I had to break down the important parts of becoming an effective Gable style wrestler. Over the past decade+ I have created, tweaked and re-tweaked drills to master this style. I now have 11 drills or phases that I like to use when teaching youth and high school wrestlers an in-your-face style of wrestling. A coach could teach their wrestlers all of these phases in a week or two and then use the segmented drills to pinpoint and fix mistakes that are being made. Please go to http://www.attackstyledrilling.com/ to find all details.

  12. I created a downloadable .pdf with a strategy I picked up over the years to help wrestlers lose body fat, develop good eating habits and maintain their energy during the pre-season. When it comes to teaching teenagers just about anything I think it is important to keep things simple and then build off the basics. This system does a good job of not overwhelming my wrestlers, getting them lean, keeps their energy up and teaches good eating habits. 14. Consistent mental toughness is something that can be very hard for wrestlers to attain and also hard for coaches to teach. I know in my wrestling career it wasn’t until my senior year in college that I truly got a grip on how to get into my optimal mental state, consistently and that was when I tapped into my fullest potential. Gene Zannetti is a Sport Psychology Expert and has worked with hundreds of athletes. Gene has an impressive wrestling background that combined with his education makes him a great resource for wrestlers of all ages. Gene works with Wrestling Clubs, the Rutgers and UPenn collegiate wrestling teams and high school wrestling teams. I interview Gene and we talk about building mental toughness for wrestlers. How to get in the zone, match preparation, writing goals and many more strategies to gain mental toughness for wrestlers are covered. You can find this interview here: http://www.darylweber.com/interview/mental-toughness-training-for-wrestlers/ While on my site I encourage you to sign up for my Guide to Becoming a State Champion for advice in all areas of becoming a championship wrestler. 15. Title: Every Great Wrestler and Team Has This A System of Wrestling! I have put together an article and video on the importance of wrestlers and teams developing a system. Find it here http://www.darylweber.com/develop-a-system-of-wrestling Basically, a good wrestler knows where they want to be when the whistle is blown and great teams all use common moves up and down the lineup. Even though you know it is coming you just can’t stop it. I talk about the steps a wrestler needs to take to master techniques and series of holds, how not to hold yourself or your team back, and some of the big payoffs to training within a definite system. I encourage you to check this piece out and please send me any feedback. I hope you enjoy it. http://www.darylweber.com/develop-a-system-of-wrestling Thanks Daryl Weber http://www.darylweber.com NCAA Champion – U of Iowa ‘96 Christiansburg H.S.
