exhawk 0 Report post Posted February 21, 2011 Ok guys its that time of year again. I want to know who is going to a national tournament to represent Kentucky wrestling. Post and let me know. We had a great state tournament and I encourage everyone to go to NHSCA nationals in VA beach or Flonations (preferably both). Here are the links to registration for all events. Attention Louisville area wrestlers. Coaches Reed, Martin, and Hayes have started a new wrestling club in Louisville called Ascend Wrestling. It is a USA club dedicated to anyone who wants to get better no matter what school you wrestle for. We will be hosting nationals training as well as holding the first Ascend wrestling tournament this summer. Here is a link to our facebook group: ascendwrestling@groups.facebook.com. Nkawtg 137 Report post Posted February 22, 2011 How about youth wrestlers (4th/5th graders)? This is the exact kind of enthusiasm Kentucky and Louisville needs for the sport. I was recently shocked that a local head varsity football coach was actively discouraging his players from joining the wrestling team. Many props for starting this. Hawkcoach97 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2011 This club is for all ages. We encourage younger kids to come out and see the work and dedication it takes to compete at the national level. Practices will be seperated based on specific needs of each wrestler. For example we would like to run two practices: 1. an open mat setting/technique 2. Nationals training (more live matches, sharkbait, and intense conditioning in preparation for Flo and Virginia Beach). An idea for the first practice is at the end have those that are training for Nationals have a live match then have the coaches critique the match for the younger, less experienced wrestlers (much like a Q & A session). Unique methods such as these benefit not only the wrestlers training but the observing kids as well. Being able to analyze and discuss high level wrestling is crucial and can be a beneficial experience for those less experienced/younger participants. This club will be a new experience for all ages and we encourage all who are interested to come.
