Certification question

Recommended Posts

Wrestler A has already made weight at a weight class and has wrestled in the that weight class.  Since then wrestler A has moved up in wieght by one weight class and has competed there as well.  Does wrestler A have to make the lower weight again before 1/29?  Or, is he already certified to compete at the lower weight for post season?  Also, if wrester A can compete at the lower weight, does wrestler A till need to follow their decent plan if the plan does not allow them to make the lower weight before 1/29?

as long as they wrestled 2 tournaments at the lower weight class they should be fine, and there decent plan lets them make the lower weight at 1/29

I don't think you're required to weigh in twice, you only have to have for events. so you could have 1 weigh in and 3 matches and qualify. does anyone know if you have to qualify before the 29th or can you qualify on that date?

C) Certification into a Weight Class

1) A wrestler is certified into a particular weight class at any

regularly scheduled match or tournament any time on or prior to

the Saturday of NFHS week 30 by making base weight (including

growth allowance after December 25) at an official weigh-in on

a certified scale as long as that certified weight is not below the

documented minimum weight and is at a time allowed by the

minimum weight calculations. A wrestler weighing in on or prior

to the Saturday of NFHS week 30 is continually certifying at the

weigh-in weight.

2) Once a wrestler is certified into a particular weight class as

of the Saturday of NFHS week 30, he/she may weigh-in only

in that class and one class above. He/she is automatically re-

certified into a higher weight class after the Saturday of NFHS

week 30 by weighing in and qualifying for that class, but never

into a lower weight class. After the Saturday of NFHS week 30,

making base weight (including growth) two classes above any

previously certified weight class automatically renders that

wrestler ineligible for the remainder of the year to wrestle in the

lower weight class (previous certified weight).

3) Please note that this rule is for weigh-ins, not matches. It is

possible that a wrestler weighed in at a certain class weight

for a match, but wrestled up during that match. That weigh-in

would count for the lower, weigh-in class.

V) Eligibility to Enter Tournament Play

An athlete shall have a combination of four matches or four

weigh-ins representing the high school during the current season in

order to be eligible to enter the region

You can only wrestle the lowest weight as your decent plan says.

The Saturday of week 30 is Jan 29 to make weight.  You must have four weigh ins or four matches to qualify for region.  I don't believe a combination will work since one weigh in and three matches are double counting the same event.  Is that correct?

MyGSP thanks for posting the actual bylaws.  I have discussed these rules on a few occasions with different coaches and there is definitely some confusion or disagreement.  My interpretation of this is as follows:

The requirement to have 4 weigh-ins or 4 matches to be eligible to enter regions has NO connection to the weight certification issue.  It is a separate bylaw and it does not matter what weight class you weigh in at or wrestle, just that you have 4 weigh-ins or matches in order to be eligible.  Additionally there is no deadline to accomplish this only that it be "during the current season" and prior to the regional tournament  This can be 3 matches at a tournament plus a dual or any combination.  I would agree that you can
