District 5 @ Conner

Recommended Posts

Team Scores:

Gray 297.5

Cooper 240.0

Conner 221.5

Results:

70: Austin Gray dec Roth Cooper; Roth will be a STUD! Mark my words this kid will make noise in years to come. To battle an 8th grader like he did, I came away super impressed.

75: Skaggs TF dec Martin Gray; Skaggs was just to good here. Dominated the match everywhere it went. If im not mistaken, besides cutting people he wasnt scored on all tournament. Very Impressive

82: Wiley Con dec Erdmen Gray; 5 time in the past two years these kids have battled to match that is less than two points. Wiley dropped the first two this year and came back and won this won. The refs told me afterwards that these two kids skill set and movement is better than most kids they've seen in high school. Wiley also was Co MOW

89: Erdmen Gray pin Roth Cooper; Erdmen, Erdmen, Erdmen. I think were about to see Gray's first Middle School state champ since Conner Coyle. Very impressive everywhere the mat went. Complete domination. Erdmen is the man to beat at 89.

96: Rich Gray dec Higgins Walton; Rich was very impressive and until the last min completely controlled and dominated Higgins. Believe final score was 11-4. Rich was very very smooth and technical.

103: Belk InjDef Brown; Belk tossed Brown in a head an arm and after about 20 secs, ref stops the match and Brown cant continue. Big win for Belk and Gray. Brown wont touch Lampe or Kahl at state.

110: Mieman Gray dec Harrington Cooper; Mieman won. Despite what you hear, coming from a coach not on either team, Mieman won no questions asked. It got a little heated after the match between Gray and Cooper and a fan and a Cooper coach. All the mayhem at the end of the match really took away from a great match.

117- Tennenbaum Cooper FF Woolf Gray; Woolf got sick and couldn't wrestle in the finals.

124- Jones Cooper Pin Sullivan Gray; Jones dominated. Complete domination which was expected here. Jones has kinda been irrelevant since winning state as a fifth grader, but he is completely relevant and probably the front-runner for a state title.

131- Shoreor Cooper Pin Hoskins Gray; Back and forth first period ended in pin for Cooper. High intensity match, very entertaining for the minute it lasted.

140- Warwick Conner pin Dorn Gray; Warwick dominated the match from the beginning with a takedown then was able to work a pin i the second period.

150- Navey Walton pin Adam Gray; If the stories are true then WOW. I heard Navey hadnt won a match all year, was 3 pounds over weight at 140 so had to bump to 150 and pins his way to the finals. Wow.

165- ???????? pin Harbin Gray; Harbin got pinned. I kinda lost interest after all the great matches in the lighter weights.

185- Thompson Conner pin ???????; Thompson dominated first period pin. 35-1 going into regional s. Not to shabby.

HWT- ????? Harrison County pin ??????; Harrison County kid was pumped UP after the pin. It was cool seeing a kid with that much emotion.

Summary; Only ran on two mats so it was a long day. First time Conner has ever ran a tournament so you had to expect some confussion. T-Shirts were cool, Concessions stands were great, nice facilities. The team just needs to run a couple more tournament and they'd be just fine. I think this is the best district in the state, I would like to see someone make a case for another district cause this district will have the most state placers and possible state champs/ finalist.  The only other district that might compete with this one would be the district with Trinity, Fern Creek, and River City. Unless someone get majorly upset, Wiley and Erdmen will more than likely see each other in the Regional finals and the State Championship. Great day of wrestling! Good look to all the kids from district 5.

MOW?  Belk right? I heard he was up and looked good all day? This kid maybe a sleeper.  Took Kahl to wire, O.T. with shirky.  Great weight class.

Also wanted to comment on Conner and how they did.  Awesome guys....  Alot of wrestlers,  great job.  To comment on 89,  Erdman is focused,  looks like a older highschool kid when prepairing for match.  Thompson from Conner.  A force.
