2007 Northern Kentucky Open Sombo Wrestling Championships

The 2007 Northern Kentucky Open Sombo Wrestling Championships will be held on 21 April 2007, in Covington, KY at the Grace United Methodist Church, located at 5th and Greenup St. This is an open even. No qualifying competition is required in order to participate.

Sombo is a style of jacket wrestling with submission holds originally developed in the former Soviet Union as a form of unarmed self-defense. The term "Sombo" is an acronym for the Russian Phrase "self-defense without weapons" (SOM-oborona Bes Orusyia). The correct English spelling of the sport is SOMBO, although it is sometimes spelled SAMBO or CAMBO in other languages. Sombo is practiced today both as a sport (Sombo wrestling) and a martial art (combat Sombo).
