grappler-of-old 44 Report post Posted February 3, 2017 Being the nerd that I am with statistics and such. I came across something that amazes me. I was looking up when each state had their 1st state tourney. When I got to Iowa the 1st thing that stood out was that their first state tourney was in 1921. While looking through it I saw an amazing name from Ky history. In 1926 Marshaltown won the state title. The head coach of this team was Adolph Rupp. When I looked up Rupp's bio it confirmed it was the same Adolph Rupp that won NCAA titles for UK. He took the job not knowing anything about wresting, learned from a book and won a state title. He then went on to start coaching basketball at another school. This has totally blown my mind. Did anyone else know about this?
