Mathound 4 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 ESPN has nominated Cael Sanderson for an ESPY in the category of best male olympic athlete. A big part of the award will be based on fan voting. Take a few minutes and vote for Cael. He was the only American wrestler to win gold in Athens, coming from behind in four of the five matches he won. He beat South Korea's Moon Eui-jae 3-1 in the 185-pound freestyle finals. Also, up for a nomination is Rulon Gardner for best comeback. Gardner lost the middle toe on his right foot to frostbite after being stranded overnight on a mountainside in sub-zero temperatures. Returned two years later to win bronze in Greco-Roman heavyweight at the Summer Olympics. He retired at the end of his match. And Steve Mocco for best male college athlete. The heavyweight finished the season 37-0 and was voted Most Outstanding Wrestler in the NCAA Tournament.
Mathound 4 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 I think Steve Mocco has the best chance at winning an award... Cael is going against Michael Phelps who did extremly well in the olympics and Gardner is in the "Best Comeback" category which is hard to say who will win. penguinskillkids 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2005 I believe Rulon has the best chance, mostly because he had one of the best come back stories I believe I've ever heard.
