Kentucky Resolution to save Olympic Wrestling

Recommended Posts

Coaches/Wrestlers,

Below is a letter requesting KY help with a Resolution to the OIC to save Olympic Wrestling. State Rep. Steven Riggs was asked by me to help and submit a resolution at the State house to have Kentucky ask the IOC to reconsider the actions of the IOC Executive Committee and keep wrestling as a core sport in the Olympic Games. Rep Steven Riggs Would like KY Wrestlers support and attend the Signing of the resolution in Frankfort on March 11.

Rep Steven Riggs would like us to be able to arrange to have some high school/youth wrestlers in attendance for the vote/signing? We want to make a promotional effort out of this in every state that does this. Kentucky will be one of the first of many.

If You as parents/Coaches/Fans/Wrestlers can attend this event to let the IOC know that KY supports Olympic wrestling in our state, Please call or email Rep Steven Riggs.

Subject: Kentucky Resolution

Dear Keith,

State Representative Steve Riggs will be presenting a resolution at the State house to have Kentucky ask the IOC to reconsider the actions of the IOC Executive Committee and keep wrestling as a core sport in the Olympic Games. The two dates this could happen is March 11 or March 25. The preference for Rep Riggs is March 11. Would you beable to arrange to have some high school/youth wrestlers in attendance for the vote/signing? We want to make a promotional effort out of this in every state that does this. Kentucky will be one of the first of many. It will be great to have the individuals that the state is directly helping keep their dream alive. I will also see if I can get Kyle Ruschel to attend as he is still training for the 2016 Games.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Mitch Hull

National Teams Director

I’ve talked with Rep. Riggs and he thinks he’d like to stick with March 11th. The time to be here would be 2pm. That is probably when the House will convene. They typically do introductions before they move on to legislative business. If for any reason the schedule changes on Monday, which isn’t likely but is possible, I will let you know ASAP. But for right now the plan is to be here on March 11th at 2pm.

Here is the plan - Rep. Riggs would like the names, accomplishments, titles of each person present (I’ll also need a head count to know how many House gallery passes to request). If it is a particularly large group present he may not have time to publicly recognize each person by name but would still like to make note of those with accomplishments who would be appealing to the body or would best help put a face on who this IOC decision is affecting. If possible, Rep. Riggs would like you all to be seated in the house gallery together. When the resolution comes up, he’ll seek recognition from the speaker and will ask you all to stand up before he starts talking about the resolution and introducing the wrestlers present.

Does this sound good to you all?

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

On Monday Kentucky will lead the way with a resolution to save Olympic wrestling at the state capital in Frankfort.

Kyle Ruschel is from Crittenden. He was a 2X NCAA all American at the University of Wisconsin and is currently training towards the 2016 Olympic Team Trials.

Keith Smith is the State Chair of Kentucky for USA Wrestling. Keith said he expects that there will be several others in attendance and will provide this later. If there is not enough lead time to have them introduced we will make sure everyone is in a picture with Rep Riggs and others deemed appropriate.

Our media department will contact Rep Riggs for comments for the article we will do on themat.com and will forward to the appropriate news outlets in KY.

We will have the people at the state house by 2pm and we realize that the resolution will take place anywhere from 2-3pm.

The resolution was passed this afternoon by the Kentucky State House of Representatives.   Kentucky is the first state to pass this resolution and support the cause to "KEEP OLYMPIC WRESTLING."   Kyle attended the vote and presented Representative Riggs with a tee shirt.  post-16770-0-09332800-1363037143_thumb.j
