  1. For those that haven't heard Tristan Ballinger who wrestles for OC high school has suffered head trauma in a freak accident. Currently he is in ICU progressing slowly. Tristan has been wrestling since third grade, he's represented KY at the middle nationals in Danville Illinois. Recently he competed in the All Star classic tournament winning the 110 weight class. This young man has done a great job representing our state. Now he and his family need our help. I've received several calls from coaches asking how they can help. Well this is it the proceeds from tournament will help the family greatly for a long road ahead. Please get as many wrestlers as you can to this event. Elementary/ Middle School

Some of you may remember Julian continued to officiate during his radiation treatments. At one of the tournaments he had to sit down and take a break I asked why are you here you need to rest He said " I need to be here I love it " . That's a man committed to the sport he loved. Rest in peace brother.

    Tyler's Status

Mike Frankrone has asked me to give a update on Tyler's condition to hep avoid any confusion. At the region tournament he suffered a shouder injury. On Monday an MRI was order and the results showed a tear of his Pectoralis Major Muscle (Chest Muscle). After several consults it has been determined that the shoulder would be susceptible to injury or possible tear if he competed this weekend. With his plans to wrestle in college the risk out weighs the reward at this point. The bottom line is Tyler will not be competing with weekend. We wish Tyler a speedy recovering and can't wait to see him in college. Coach Wheeler

    Region 4 brackets

Amen the word I received tonight was the AD said it was going to be a two day tournament because they wanted the gate money. This thing could been done in four or five hours on sat ridiculous.

    Region 4 brackets

This is even better the brackets will be out at 6 o'clock five minutes before Wrestling starts so were supposed to pay the gate twice will probably be charge for parking in the county may even have a tax on the door and the worst part is the kids have to make weight twice

    Region 4 brackets

Better yet please explain why we are having a two day tournament with the largest number of kids in a weight is 10. The five match rule doesn't come into play!!!

    Big Announcement is here

Amen Ranger I don't post much but I feel this is worth taking the time. In that video I heard positive thing said through out about every kid but let's focus on one thing that wasn't directed at any one person. There was talk about trying to have two matches a weight class in an attempt to involve as many as possible but there wasn't enough response. I know personally that those putting this event on had one intent that was to try to create an event that would help grow KY wrestling. There are as many opinions on how to do that as there are kids that wrestle. As for the middle class wrestler becoming obsolete well I can tell you that isn't occurring in OH NJ PA and many other states. I can guarantee that there are many more year round wrestlers there. So is the answer that those kids that are wired to train at the highest level and want to wrestle in college are hurting the rest. Absolutely the easiest way to get kids to come out and grow the sport is to have great kids out there setting a high standard, everybody wants to be on a team with good kids. If I'm wrong why is it Trinity football has a 100 kids come out for freshman football and a large % know they aren't going to see the field they want to be on a winning program, that's human nature. So my point is a winning program will bring out more kids which equals more middle class wrestlers. As for Dutch personally he has two other son's that play in their school's band and that is almost year round. So he keeps balance with all his kids.

    youth state results

Your absolutely right with eight man brackets more medals were given out and the numbers stayed the same. So now 16 man brackets see what happens but the point about committed coaches and parents is where it is going to come from. That's why I push the point of coming to the meetings sharing ideas make changes. To give a number example to help address qualifiers three years ago we had approx a 950 -1000 wrestlers in the state the CInn area had 2,500 in the surrounding area. The number mentioned by Matt of 1,500 is what we figured out several years ago based upon what areas kids were coming from that would make sense with going to qualifiers.

    youth state results

Here is how this rule of not letting middle school placers came about. Back when Stan Martin was the president (That's a long time ago) the main goal of the association was to grow youth wrestling. As the years past it did grow we moved from holding the youth state meet in a high school gym to the arena in Frankort and now at Montgomery county. For years people complained about not having 16 man brackets but the numbers didn't make sense and the sport was continuing to grow so why change what was working. As ideas were presented at the state association meetings on how to continue the growth of the sport I brought up the idea of if a youth wrestler places at the middle school state they would not be eligible to wrestle at the youth state. It was voted on and passed. Last year after looking at who placed in the top six at middle school and who didn't that were youth eligible it was changed to the top four placers. Now agree or disagree I can say this was done to help grow the sport. At the time the idea was proposed my son had placed at the middle school state prior to the meeting that this idea was brought up and voted on and he was youth eligible it kept him from competing for the next two years at the youth level so they was no personal agenda. Now Raider Coach has a valid point he and I have talked about it more than once. Over the last two years the numbers haven't changed that much maybe even down a little that was one of the reasons that the 16 man brackets were implemented to see if that would help in growth by making it more competitive more significant if you place, however you want to look at it. The numbers may have not changed much in the past two years but the level of competition has the skill level of youth wrestling has grown with the exposure the kids have gotten through Team KY and wrestling in the off season ect. So now maybe that idea needs to be looked at again with sixteen man brackets and better competition maybe a change is needed. As it has been said on this forum more than once if you don't come to the meetings to share your ideas on how to better the sport what do you expect. The past administration has done a done a great job of listening and implementing ideas brought up at the meetings and I'm sure that will continue with the new leaders. Coach Wheeler

    East Oldham Duals? 12/6/14?

The plan for the day is to run five mats up to the medal round there will be 6 officials there so they can rotate out our plan is to run straight through with no breaks. We will need all of the teams there on time for weighins (4 scales) so we can start on time. We will do our best to finish as early as possible. Coach Wheeler
