Seriously? This is really a complaint? Don't like it do something about it, can't do anything about it then have your child play basketball. This isn't just a county thing this is a national thing as well. Basketball = Money, wrestling does not. Complaining about this is like how I complain to my students about capitalism and how its the main reason we have such disparity of wealth in our country, as well as corrupt government officials, and why were constantly engaged in foreign affairs. Point being it is what is it and until someone does something to change it. By the way I had no clue CC even made the state basketball tournament until I drove by the Elks Club on 27 and they had it advertised there. They lost in the first round and every kid was back in school on Thursday so as Arnold would say in Kindergarten Cop, "quit whining!!" BTW some school districts, Covington Independent, Princeton City Schools close for the state tournament.

    Tomahawk Wrestling Club- (Freestyle)Cincinnati, OH

Not a bad showing tonight. Roughly around 17 guys. No little guys and mostly its Anderson kids with a few Turpin and Kings there. Hoping to get around 25 kids in there per practice. Lot of freestyle and greco technique then about 30 minutes of live wrestling. I will say great insight and technique from Coach Cripe and Coach McIntire. Next practice is Thursday at 6:30

Not sure. I've spoken with the Grandstaff's who plan on being there tonight but beyond them and maybe a few 7th graders locally (meaning Milford, Kings, etc). Not sure about anyone lighter. After tonight I will be able to give more insight to the kids in the room. I am not 100% sure but all the communication to the community is that kids will be training freestyle and greco. Hope this helps

Should be a good room and it's free! Anybody living in northern Kentucky Anderson High School is less than a mile off of 5 mile exit on 275. I live in Campbell County and it takes me 10 minutes to get there.

For me the biggest surprise was Branden Johnson. I knew he was good, but I saw him lose to Gabe Platt early in the year and never expected him to be a state champ.

    Best Kentucky Wrestler Ever?

I've been doing some research and I put together, in my opinion, the best seasons any KY wrestler has had in the last ten years. *Disclaimer- Some records and placements might be incorrect. Please correct me if need be. 1. Brock Ervin Sr. 46-1; 2nd @ Iron-man, 1st @ NHSCA Junior Nationals, Undefeated against KY wrestlers, National Duels MOW, MOW KY State Tournament Brock is the highest finisher ever at Iron-man for a KY wrestler. His Jr. Nationals Championship was the first by any KY wrestler. Enough said 2. Kyle Ruschell Sr. 46-3; 7th @ Beast of the East, 3rd @ NHSCA Senior Nationals, Undefeated against KY wrestlers, MOW @ GMVCA, MOW KY State Tournament Not much explaining to do here. Without Kyle finishing 3rd @ Senior Nationals I would probably drop him down to fifth on my list. Kyle really blossomed between his sophomore and junior year then picked it up another notch his senior year. 3. Jacob Murton Sr. 42-2; 4th @ Beast of the East, match away from placing at both NHSCA Senior Nationals and Fargo, Undefeated against KY wrestlers, MOW KY State Tournament Jacob was hands down the must brutal wrestling force our state has ever seen until Austin Meyers came into the picture. I'm giving Jacob the upper hand because of how close he was at being a Fargo AA and a Senior Nationals AA. Also he gets the trump card over Fahy because if Murton and Fahy would have wrestled against each other I give the edge to Murton 9 out of 10 times. 4. Austin Meyers Jr. 46-0; 1st @ NHSCA Sophomore Nationals, Undefeated against KY wrestlers, only 3 matches all year lasted 4:30 minutes Austin is by far the most DOMINATE wrestler I've ever seen in our state. I believe Austin would dominate equally in Ohio if he lived there. The only reason Austin isn't higher is because NHSCA Freshman and Sophomore Nationals are not to the quality of Junior or Senior Nationals, more on that later. 5. John Fahy Sr. 46-1; 3rd @ Beast of the East, Undefeated against KY competition, MOW KY State tournament John had an incredible career and this was probably his best year wrestling. Finishing top 3 @ Beast is a HUGE accomplishment and the best by any KY wrestler. I can not remember how John did at Senior Nationals or Fargo so I have nothing else to go on when ranking him in this order. *NHSCA Freshman, Sophomore, and Middle School Championship dilemma- The sole reason I can not give these tournaments any credibly hinges solely on three things; lack of nationally ranked wrestlers, lack of competitors, overall lack of interest by wrestling community. Another problem I have with the tournament is based on past results. I will leave the name out of the story but those who have been around long enough can probably figure it out-- There was a KY wrestler who finished his sophomore season as a state runner losing to a pretty good wrestler. Both kids had loses to unranked national kids, as well as to instate competition that season. The runner up went to NHSCA and finished second @ Sophomore Nationals. The highest placer ever until Ervin entered the picture. While that was outstanding for the kid it took a lot of credibility away from that tournament. The next year the young man won state, losing several matches along the way to more unranked national kids, then went to Junior Nationals and finished 0-2. That reason alone is why I put NHSCA Jr and Sr Championships way ahead of So and Fr, and put So. and Fr. champions behind Beast and Iron-man placers. So as you can see, accolades were more important than the eye test. I didn't care about weight just about what you did in the season and off season. I will put together a career list for the last ten years because going back any further would be a nightmare.

    Best Kentucky Wrestler Ever?

This question always seems to rear its ugly head after the state tournament ends. I don't think you can compare a wrestler in the 80's ex. Robbie Clarkston to any wrestler in the 90's ex. Joe Carr Jr. to any wrestler in 2000's ex. Issac Knable to any wrestler in 2010's ex. Brock Ervin. All had very unique styles and wrestling was different then. Kids nowadays would smoke teams from the 60's, 70's, 80's and majority of the teams in the 90's. I'm excluding the CC team in the early 90's and a few of the Woodford County teams. Wrestling has evolved and our state has made great strides to bolster our wrestling programs. And to compare wrestling styles, accolades, and weight make this challenge even more difficult. Do we look at one singular year? Do we take into account what they did after high school? Do we look a whole body of work? What are the parameters that allow us to compare these kids? I find this to be an impossible task...We are better off looking at the best wrestlers the state has produced by Decades more soever than using the term "ever". And I'm glad you like the quote Tarzan, my grandpa always would say the "the proof is in the pudding". Had no clue what that meant until I was like 20 years old.

Coach Simmons is an awesome person! He coached our team my sophomore and junior year. Had the pleasure of talking with him at several tournaments this year, I wish him the best after he retires. I must say for being like 90 he is in incredible shape! I wonder once he leaves who is going to take over the program??

Sometimes it pays to lose in the regional finals. After looking at the brackets I strongly believe Wiley can make it to the quarters against Lannum of Danville who he lost to 8-3 earlier in the season. He already holds a victory over Elkins, common opponents appear to go in his favor against either Mitchell or Cundif. He's been wrestling really well lately would love to see him sneak into the semi's.
