Troy Nickerson NCAA Champion @ ETC Camp

I am very suprised with the growth of Kentucky wrestling and the support we are getting at ETC. I am very happy with the interest that wrestling is getting in Kentucky in the month of August. However, at this time I must report the camp is now Full and registration is CLOSED. I appologize that we no longer accept walkins but due to the large number of walkins at the Ramos camp we want to do our part to make sure kids have room to wrestle and get the one on one attention they deserve . I truely appreciate all the support and hopefully we see you soon. As always coaches are more than welcome to come by and watch whats going on at ETC. Thanks again,
  8. Here are my thoughts! All the programs listed other than maybe 1 have great coaches and established programs. Coach Hitchings has proven to be a winner at Trinity and now at FC. The addition of Brad Hitchings and myself will not change the direction of the program but give Hitchings a few more resources to work with. Coach Hitchings kids are technically sound and if Brad and I bring anything to the room that will be more intensity. Nothing earth breaking.. Yes Vega, intensity... Duck, you are very informed about Woodford wrestling so you know that I didnt coach there at any capacity. However, I did coach a few of their wrestlers since they were very young. ( Nathan, Kyle Lawson, Trevor Lawson) I have never coached at a middle school or a highschool and honestly never had the desire. My focus has been on clubs and travel teams such as ETC. If you have heard about one of my camps then you would know that we have a lot of out of state kids attend. I feel this is important to the development of our in-state kids. Brock and Fahy came into to our camps since they were very young and I feel it helped them at some capacity reach their goals. We have a nice core group of kids at ETC and hopefully I have met their expectations. I feel I am one of the luckiest coaches in the state because I get to work with so many great wrestlers from many different schools. As far as the torch being passed at Woodford. I think lil Rusty Parks and Ethan Miller will do a great job. Both are outstanding with the kids. I think it would be awesome to get Coach Rusty Parks back for a year to help mentor these guys. I am not sure if this job will be posted but I feel Rusty Parks has paid his dues and should have the opportunity to be the next head coach at Woodford. losing 2 State Champions and a 3rd place winner they will be in the reloading stage but I have all the confidence that the tradition will continue. Good Luck to all!

    ETC practice Schedule this week

Guys, Due to the number of kids we will be holding practice at the South Oldham location on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of this week. We usually have our Monday practice at Fern Creek but we need to make sure we have room to wrestle live. Once again a big thank you to Coach Wheeler, Coach Branch and Coach Hitchings for opening their rooms up. Also, please dont drive into the gated area. If you are dropping off please do so at the gate. They have been great to work with and this is not to much to ask. Schedule this week. Monday 6:30-8:30 South Oldham Tuesday 6:30-8:30 South Oldham Wednesday 6:30-830 South Oldham Sunday 6:30-8:30 South Oldham We will be adding a location in the Lexington area soon. If you are interested in opening your room to ETC please advise. We are confident we can bring in 50 kids from Central Kentucky. Thanks again for supporting ETC.
  10. Kids like wrestling t-shirts and the ETC guys asked if we would get some made. With that being said, Nathan has designed a shirt and we placed an order. The shirts should arrive on Friday and we will have them at practice on Sunday for $10. ETC will donate all the money to any coach or dad that will rent a 14 passenger van to take a few kids out to Virginia beach that needs a ride. We ordered 50 shirts so if we sell all 50 shirts that is $500 towards a 14 passenger van and gas.. ETC will take care of the cost of the shirts. Hopefully we have someone willing to do this. You should be able to get a van around $250 If we dont sell enough shirts I know a guy that may donate funds to help this still happen. If you an interested coach or dad please post your name then the kids can request a ride. Please contact me and be at practice on Sunday to pickup the funds. Thanks and good luck at Nationals.
  11. boston120

Do you need a ride to Virginia Beach?

I am not sure what you mean by picture. If you mean picture of shirt then we are not trying to sale them online. This post was more about trying to find someone that will rent a van that can take a few extra kids. Let me know if you are interested and if so come to practice on Sunday and I will give you the funds to rent the van. We have 2 ETC kids looking for a reliable ride. Thanks again, Pat, I will get you those shirts.. Thanks for helping these kids..

    ETC is growing

I am very excited and thankful for the support we have received getting ETC off the ground. We cant be selfish and we need unity in the off season while having trust in one another. We must share our experience and coaching knowledge with all the Kentucky kids. With that being said I have seen coaches remove the school colors and come together to help all the wrestlers get better. I havent received one no when I have asked for help and I have received numersous calls asking how they can support ETC. We have kids driving hours to come to practice to work out together. At this time we have 2 locations to help with the drive so the same kids are not doing the long commutes everynight. This philosophy has worked out great and we are considering another location in the near future. I would be lying if I said this was my idea.. This was Nathans idea because he wanted the best partners possible and in return help others. I was a very poor wrestler but in the last 10 years I have learned so much from others and still do today. ETC was intended to be short for Elite Training Center and was named by Nathan. There are no secrets in our plan, It's about getting Kentucky wrestling better and together we can acheive that. We have about 15-20 guys at ETC training together for Nationals. This is short of amazing.. We are not here to take place of open rooms or highschool practices we are here only for suplimental training. Nathan spent hours looking for training partners and stayed frustrated. I dont want any kid to have to go through that again. No kid will ever be denied a practice or camp at ETC because of funding.. Every kid should have the same opportunities and success should be determined by hard work and dedication. At this time we are touching about 125 kids in one location or another or in different practices. In a short time this has out grown me and I need help. I knew I needed someone that was seeing different technique from various people with resources. With that being said, I would like to welcome LW college coaches and wrestlers to the ETC coaching staff. I am sure some of you noticed LW wrestlers training with us. There is nothing better than bringing college kids into a highschool practice to increase intensity. This will no longer be an exception but a normal situation at ETC. Please welcome Corey Ruff, Abe Cross, and LW wrestlers to ETC. If anyone knows Coach Ruff you understand the passion he has for helping kids and his desire to improve Kentucky wrestling. In closing I want to give a big thank you to Coach Wheeler and Coach Tucker for helping with all the admin work. Without you this couldnt be possible. I will see you ETC guys tonight at 6:30.. Please drive safe.. Thank you!

    Dapper Dan

Braycael, Sorry I didnt answer your question. This is not the same kid this kid was up a weight. This kid will not be ranked at Nathans weight. However, Nathan is the 3rd kid that was ranked #1 this year he has beaten. The other 2 #1 kids were at the weight above. He is an awesome wrestler and a great young man. I am not sure if they will wrestle in college he could be at 133.

    Dapper Dan

Guys, Nathan has been covered by flo as much as anyone. You have to take the good with the bad. Bottom line Nathan didnt perform. It has only been about three weeks that he has been in a room that pushes him. He will be ok he just needs to keep working and get stronger. You cant have your best match every match. Nathan actually beat this great young man about 2 years ago 6-3. Nathan got taken down at the end of the first. I think took his mind out of it and then the snow ball started. At the ceremony they talked about guys wrestling someone up a weight at Dapper Dan. Jake Herbert did it and got Tech Pinned. He ended up winning a couple of NCAA title. I am not going to define Nathans career off of one match or will he. When he came off the mat he just said I need to get back to work. Bottom line he got beat and that happens so Wildcat you are ok and not a problem with posting. People want to know. When people make such a big deal when you get beat by a guy 1 weight above you. You then know you are doing something right. Now for facts Nathan is a 120lber and he wrestled a kid that wrestled 126 all year that was a 126 state Champion and OW in PA. No there wasnt strict weigh ins and thats ok.. A lot of the kids didnt make weight with the 5lb allowance. The kids know they will wrestle regardless of weight. Its about putting on a show for charity. It was an honor that they felt they had to put their 126 on Nathan. Kentucky has had 2 Dapper Dans neither have won. Joe Carr jr lost by pin in 1997. Hopefully Myers can get us back on track. Dapper Dan is more about the ceremony and the awards. The actual wrestling is a small part of it. One may ask why would you go to wrestle someone in a higher weight and why would they do it. First of all the Dapper Dan is the Nirvana of Highschool wrestling. The best of the best are there. To make it interesting PA needs to put their best guys on the mat regardless of weight. This year PA allowed 4 guys to wrestle down a weight. Honestly, I think it was awesome. It made it very interesting. Brock had his match he would love to have back at super 32, Sean against a couple of guys in Ohio, Blackwell in the finals, and Nathan at Dapper Dan. Boys, unfortunatly you have those nights but you guys are still the greats in my eyes. Last night, the bottom line was he was bigger, stronger, and just a better wrestler. Most kids would love to have his career I know I would. 199-1 3X State Champion-2 States IN/KY 4X State finalist- Lost to Dapper Dan winner and OW his Sophmore year Ranked #1 in the Country a couple of times the last couple of years at different weights 2X Flonational Finalist-Flonational Champion Invited to Dapper Dan Invited to Dream Team In closing, I want to thank everyone for making Nathan feel like a Kentucky kid and accepting him as your own. Everyone opened their rooms and welcomed him with open arms. I love Indiana wrestling but Kentucky wrestling has a special place in my heart. I would guess Nathan will be right back in the practice room today or tomorrow. Thanks again and good luck at Nationals.
  15. Great job Jake.. I hope you recover from your injury quickly. As mentioned many times this weekend. Kentucky wrestling is on the rise and I am glad to have the opportunity to witness it. Way to represent your state..Had a very close match with a Fargo AA.

    Lawson Brothers

The lawson brothers were trained by Miron in Ohio when they were young. A few years ago they moved to Urbana Ohio to train with Jordan. Since I am confident this will be common knowledge soon enough I will stop the speculation. The Lawsons have decided to move back to Ohio. Their father was trying to open a flooring buissness in the Lexington area but it was hard to find people to employee that had the experience he was looking for. Also, Mr. Lawsons father got very ill during the season and it made it very hard for him to help take care of him. They will be deeply missed on and off the mat. I think the coaches were officially informed yesterday about the decision. I am very biased but these boys improved leaps and bounds from the time they came to their last match in Kentucky. I assure you this was not in their original plans as they were looking to purchase or build a new home a month ago. Nathan Boston was born in Central Baptist hospital in Lexington. I am a graduate of Woodford County High. A few years back I shut down a plant in Harrodsburg, Kentucky and was asked to move to Indianapolis. I accepted my new position and we moved. About 2 years ago we sold our company and many positive change were made. Anytime 2 or more companies come together we must look for synergies and cost savings. With that being said, we decided to move the location to the east cost. This opened up an opportunity for us to move back home and help our aging parents. We have been trying to get back for the last 3 years. Since Nathan was 8 years old Joe Carr sr. and Joe Carr jr has had their hands on Nathan. They would come and spend the summers with the grandparents and train with the Carr's. The Carrs actually started a very successful wresting academy in Indianapolis but over time it was hard for them to make the trip as often as the parents wanted. We turned the academy over to a very highlevel coach. Many Kentucky folks knew we were moving back before the Carrs knew. We told the Carr's we were moving back home the week before school started. We didnt want anyone to know until we were here. The Carrs probably had the biggest impact in Nathans wrestling career since he was 8 years old. Many people asked why we picked Woodford. It was simple, we moved to be close to parents not to win a team state title. As stated above, the Lawsons moved to Versailles because it was in the middle of Frankfort, Lexington, and Cincinnatti. Versailles was the perfect location. I appreciate the kind words about Nathan. I think Nathan is lucky to have Kentucky and he has embraced the opportunity. Everyone has a good day and a bad day. With a lot of luck Nathan was able to come out of the State event as a state champion. I appriciate everyone that has supported our return to a great state and home. Nathan is 150-1 for his high school career and his loss came from Micic from Indiana. At this time Nathan was ranked #2 in the country and Micic was ranked #4. It was a great match and we were lucky to make it to the State Finals match. Nathan beat him the first year in the semi's and he returned the favor in the finals last year. Micic defeated Nathan I think 6-4 or 6-5. It really doesnt matter Micic beat him and has our respect. Nathan was 2nd at Flonationals and he wrestled 120 at Super 32. He wrestled very well and it is hard to place at these events with the 1 day weigh in. He was defeated by JR Wert in the Semi finals 3-2. Wert went upto 132 and placed 5th or 6th at the iron man. He lost to another kid he beat the day before in OT. Kentucky has some studs and we are humbled that some of you have considered him to be one of the better kids in the state. He has a level head and knows that anyone can be beat. He will be at FloNationals and all the top kids will be there. We would be glad if he was able to place top 8 again. However, that is not his goal. His is not a wrestling god nor does he think that. Once again, thanks for being so kind and supportive of Nathan. Everyone I have talked to has been great. I assure you that Nathan is a Kentucky kid and we wont be moving out of state until he finishes school. Hopefully Nathan represents Kentucky in a positive way. Thanks again,
  17. Carr’s Wrestling Academy Mission Statement Carr Wrestling Academy is committed to training the students in a system to be the best wrestler they can be in three areas; Mental (attitude/toughness), physical (technique) and social(ethics/faith/respect), as well as developing confidence, self-discipline, and a strong work ethic for the rest of their life. The plan and vision for students at the Carr Wrestling Academy is to give them tools and skills to compete on any level of wrestling and to apply these skills in life. We not only believe that you will become the best wrestler that you can be but you will be able to teach what you know. If you can teach and demonstrate what you have learned then you are ready to compete with the best. This will take time, just as the process of developing champions takes dedication, hard work, and time. The goal is to build a system of wrestling that will enhance a dedicated wrestler's to excel at any level and transfer these skills to the real world for the rest of their life. You can get these results: Dominating takedowns Getting off the bottom Riding, Tilting, and Pinning Learning the details, drills, and strategies of these techniques Making champions the norm instead of the exception Here's the secret. Learn the principle behind the hold and then learn the details to make the hold work. We do it for all holds, in every position, all of the time. High level set-ups to put you in position to score High level finishes to score your points Drills and situation wrestling to make learning easier and faster Carr Wrestling System We've helped produce: 8 STATE TEAM CHAMPIONS 6 STATE DUALS TEAM CHAMPIONS Finish in the top three for 18 straight years We train our champions to master new positions and new technique. The way we teach and train is so simple that anybody can learn. You see and hear our Coaches putting the wrestlers in the proper position and tell them, head up, back up, hip in, drive up and lift and next time you see them in a match they will be using the new technique to win. This happens day after day, week after week, year after year, producing state champions, state champion teams, and All-Americans. This is the Carr Wrestling System. This is what you are getting when you invest in our System. This system is the results of a life-long influence of nationally known Coaches and the influence of the Granby system. Ours Coaches (Joe Carr Sr. and Joe Carr Jr.) typically attends NCAA, World, and Olympic Championships to, to study wrestling technique and the teaching strategies for implementing them and bringing them back to our club and Academy. You will see our method and technique use nationally by top ranked college and high school teams. What Can CWA Do For You? Most wrestlers and coaches use individual a single holds to attack their opponent. They try it once, try it again, and try it again. They soon find out that opponents can easily defend one individual hold. What we do is teach several different holds and put them together in a series or a system so that you can smoothly move from one technique to the next, depending on the reactions of your opponent. This gives you the ability to maintain an almost constant attack. In other words, CWA shows you the best techniques and how to put them together in a systematic approach that is difficult to defend. Top work We will teach you pressure ride that includes breaking your opponents down and controlling them for pins and tilts. The details of capturing the arm, constant pressure, hooks, and bars will make you very effective on top. These techniques will prepare you for greater success with the Cradle and the Turk. From the dominating riding and scoring to the pinning of Cradles and Turks, you have a system of top work that makes you a constant threat to your opponents. Bottom work With the CWA, you have a hold that is open when there is pressure riding or tight riding. If pressured, the Granby is very tough to stop. If a wrestlers ride loose to defend the Granby, you will have the opportunity to switch to the Shrug or stand up because it is easier to execute against a loose rides. The combination of the three holds will conquer both the tight and the loose rider, giving you a system of bottom work that is very difficult to handle. These hold won’t works if you cannot stop the top man's techniques. This is where CWA, comes in to complete the System of bottom work. We will teach you, the techniques to block, defend and stop the top man's moves to put yourself in a position to do the Granby, Shrug or stand up. Learning either the Granby or the Shrug makes you a better wrestler, but having all three makes you virtually impossible to ride. Takedowns The Carr ABC system is well organized and planned out sessions with High Intensity Wrestling (HIW), focused drill and situation. Being exposed to random wrestling techniques does not guarantee success. Wrestling is a position based sport, not move based. We emphasize position first and move second. We will teach you the most effective series of takedowns in wrestling. You will learn the high crotch, single, double leg, opposite leg, set-ups, and finishes. Instruction also includes using body position, body control, head control, angles, and leverage to make this series work successfully. You will learn (The Sweep Single). This is a single that is quick and is easy to finish. The Sweep Single works in combination with the Inside Step and head snap down. When an opponent defends against one, the other is open. The other big area is takedowns defense. Counter offense and defense, as you will learn will expose your opponent for easy takedown point. You will learn front headlock, butt drags and go-behinds that are extremely effective. If you've learned the positioning techniques with all three takedowns give you superior attacks on both leg and great defense at the same time. HIGH INTENSITY WRESTLING (HIW) Intense, Focused Workout Match situation Drills Specific Repetition Training You bring “I can do it attitude” Areas of focuses: • Contact and Motion: safe tie, push and pull, snap, fake, fish hook, post, elbow control, head tie, front two on one, under hook, wrist control. • Primary attacks: leg attack with setups and finishes (single leg sweep, high crotch, double leg, and low single) • Counter offense: front headlock offense, blocking skills, defending the leg attack • Secondary Attacks: Duck under, arm drag, fireman carry, throws, short offense Carr’s ABC of a Takedown A stand for Attack, B for Balance and C for Creating motion. In order for me to attack, I must break my opponent balance by creating motion. Motion is create by making him over react by push, pull, snap, fake, passing and posting. Six Ways to Create Motion 6 ways to create motion to break your opponent's balance, they are: Push and pull, snap, fake, pass and post. 3 Thing To Beat in Order To Penetrate 3 Thing you have to beat in order for you to penetration to your opponent hips. Best KY Team Ever?

Mpire, I dont doubt you for a bit that you want ATM to acheive greatness. He works hard and could become the best. However, let me help you set the bar for cash money. 242 HS wins 3X Junior Nationals AA at Fargo 1X Junior National Finalist High school National Finalist 40 pins in 41 matches in a single season Dream Team member Dapper Dan USA member vs Iowa Notable wins his senior year -Bryan Snyder NCAA champion at Nebraska -Luke Becker NCAA champion at Minnesota Please keep in mind this was a time when you only had really 2 national events and everyone was at those. Winning 4 or 5 Kentucky state titles is unreal but being on the dream team and wrestling at Dapper Dan and USA vs Iowa is something special. Oh, and losing a very close match in the finals at Fargo wasnt to bad either. Not bad for a Kentucky kid. I havent been around for a few years but if anyone in Kentucky had a better high school career in Kentucky please let me know and we can update the new bar. I agree we didnt have Boston, ATM, Kevin, Blackwell, SAM or Ervins. They did have the Blacks, Carrs, Kyle R. and many others. On a serious note; Kentucky has had some great individuals.

    Best KY Team Ever?

Jimmy Carr was a student at Woodford County 1973-1974 and the year before he was an Olympian. The KHSAA didnt allow him to compete that year and called him a professional. I think that was around the same time the University of Kentucky started their wrestling program. During that time Olympians didnt get paid and they were considered non professionals and couldnt be paid. I think Woodford might have won a state title during that era. Could you imagine having him in your lineup. Also Woodford was ranked in the top 25 in the country with those dominate teams in the 90's. When Hank Rippetoe was around all those kids traveled on a National level but you didnt hear as much about it because the limited internet coverage. Ian Horn, Joe Carr jr, Chris Dunn and group were beating National level guys. Like I said before, I am not informed enough to even guess who had the best team nor would I want to speculate. I think all mentioned teams above are worthy of being considered. Mpire, I think Randy Savage went to Graham.

    Best KY Team Ever?

Mpire, I assure you that I am not monkeyfighter. You should have known that by the language monkey used online. It took enough effort to figure out how to sign in and get my old password. I have no clue who the best teams were and wont weigh in on that conversation. I think Kentucky had a lot of great teams and some outstanding individuals. I just hope I get the opportunitiy to work with some of the wrestlers all around Kentucky. I do enjoy pulling your chain, but I like to save that up so I can do that in person. With the new CWA starting in Lexington soon, I am very excited about meeting a lot of these young guns but also can wait to see how it could improve Kentucky on a national level. This is my first and last opinion. I am only talking what they did in highschool. Joe Carr Jr was the best wrestler to ever wrestle at the state event in Kentucky. He was a Dream team member, finalist at Fargo, multiple placer at Fargo. However, he was the second best wrestler to attend Woodford County. Does anyone know who the best was?

    Youth Wrestling in High School

Guys, IMO Kentucky has a good thing going. This gives our elite young wrestlers an opportunity to get good competition. I think both of the Lawson's will wrestle HS this year if they can make the lineup. Kyle will be at 126 and I think he will place. This gives him an opportunity that most states wouldnt allow. I think last year kyle pinned his way through the MS state event in OH. On another note, I think all states goes through waves of talent. Last year Indiana graduated a great class of kids and probably next year will be another. Kentucky has several wrestlers that can compete on a National level. I seen that this weekend. I dont know that many wrestlers from Kentucky but hope that will change this year. The few that I do know are hammers. Brock Ervin, Trae Blackwell, Myers brother, Sean F., Jayce Carr, Kevin Cooper, Whallen, and the Boston moveback and many others. We just got to be willing to go out there and compete and put it on the line. In the off season train together to make the state better. I also want to say thanks for all the support Nathan was given by the KY guys this weekend. Rob Boston
