  1. Freestyle is a smart move in my opinion. This gets the girls ready for international competition earlier, allowing the U.S. a better shot at winning. Also, because there is a smaller number of females competing, these college athletes have a realistic shot at making an Olympic team while still in college. If they were wrestling folkstyle, that would be much more difficult to accomplish. Starting girl's freestyle as a high school sport would open many more doors for girls. Making it a spring sport seems natural since that's when most FS competition occurs. Not would also still allow girls to wrestle folkstyle if they wanted.
  2. A girl's freestyle league wouldn't necessarily have to conflict with the folkstyle season. It could be a spring or fall sport in KY. This would allow the girls to still compete in folkstyle but gain tremendous experience in freestyle which is what they will need to get scholarships for college. KY is in a great position to lead the charge nationwide.
  3. Kentucky has a great opportunity to move to the head of the pack in regards to women's wrestling. Starting a freestyle girl's wrestling league at the youth thru high school levels is a great idea. Two of the most successful women's college programs are located in KY, and at least one of those women has qualified for the Olympic Trials. The programs would be small at first but could grow rapidly with the right exposure.

    Female Interest Is Growing

Everyone should weigh in wearing singlets and it wouldn't be an issue. At nationals, girls weigh in with boys and everyone wears a singlet. Allowing boys to go down to their underwear at weigh ins is where the issue arises.

    State Duals

Rankings are based on individual placings not duals. Campbellsville consistently places higher than Lindsey at Nationals.

    Region 1

We only had to drive an hour last year to Danville, but it should have been postponed. The roads were treacherous. However, two wrongs don't make a right. Learn from the mistakes and make better decisions in the future. A statewide backup plan would be a good idea since this seems to be a consistent problem. Maybe if more than one region is forced to cancel due to weather, State becomes a 32 man bracket by default. Or, hold the Sunday following state duals as a backup date for regionals with weigh ins at State Duals being valid the following day. This would give options and consistency. Good of luck to all the KY wrestlers! We miss seeing all of you!

    Central Regional in Indianapolis

This is from themat.com. It may only be true for certain age divisions. I'm not sure. "Please be aware that wrestlers are not allowed to DROP in weight class from the regional to the nationals. Whatever weight class the wrestler weigh-ins at for the regional (not necessarily competes at, but what the scale actually reads) is the lowest weight class the wrestler is eligible to compete at for the nationals."

    Central Regional in Indianapolis

If you go to Fargo, you cannot wrestle a lower weight than you do at Central Regionals. You can go up but you can't go down.
  11. We hand wrote brackets. I will do my best to get results up in the next couple days. Thanks to everyone who came out and wrestled.
  12. FYI, the tournament is still on. numbers look better than last year. We are canceling it in trackwrestling just because of the additional expense, but we are wrestling and taking walk-ins.
