I'm not 100% up on track but how would this make it easier to pre-seed?  Do you expect the person running the tourney to look up all the criteria?

I have run several tourneys in my day.  Its easy to pre-seed.  Coaches send roster with records. Pre-seed according to record then go. Get changes when coaches show up adjust, take 20 minutes for coaches meeting then go.

You have kids that wrestle terrible competition with 35-0, 40-1 records and kids from these other teams that actually challenge themselves out of state against top ranked competition with 4-5+ losses and will get seeded worse than those kids with nearly unblemished records. Darius Moore for example only had two in state losses, both to the state champ. He had several losses out of state and barely cracked the top 15 in rankings, whereas on rankwrestlers.com which uses trackwrestling to create their rankings, he was top 5 almost all season. He was a no-brainer for darkhorse.

Tournaments ran on track like Mater Dei and Father Ryan's use track information for seeding. The seeds are automatically generated based on criteria points (record, at least so many matches recorded on track, previous years tournament results, previous state results, head to head). There is usually not much to change when the automatic seeds are released.

Here is our list of KY boys so far

    Elementary

    120 Owen Lamer

    Middle School
    112 Peyton Harrison

    180 Marcus James

    High School

    120 Isaac Thornton

    160 Dalton Russelburg

    182 Stephen Little

You’re getting an absolute animal in Stephen Little, one of the funkiest wrestlers I’ve seen in my lifetime with Dalton Russelburg, and a kid who gives his all every match and is just a plain winner in Isaac Thornton. Good pick ups.

It amazes me just how little the khsaa does for wrestling. They basically let ranger and a few others run the entire sport for them. When ranger steps down, there will be no rankings.

Rankings will be easier if everyone posted their results each week to Trackwrestling. Rankwrestlers.com does a good job of compiling rankings based on head to head, win percentages, previous years state results, etc. only if each team updates their results. The problem is, you have old outdated tournament formats not ran on track and other teams who choose to "hide" their results until regionals.

This was the first year we didn't wrestle the matches in order by the bout numbers. If we are going to continue to do it this way might want to put mat assignments on the big screen for all to see and tell people. I personally liked the old way of next available but I get it this is the way all trackwrestling is done now.

Trust me, Jon Carr tried to make that happen and some of the KHSAA members were not too happy with that idea. I bet that'll be done next year.

I won with a total of 103 thanks to my darkhorse (Darius Moore) making the finals.

    2nd was Wkywrestler with 99.

    3rd was Hawkeye with 93.

I had 94. I know we used to do the darkhorse in the past where what they placed vs what they were ranked and you got the difference. I didn't realize it was changed up this year.

Gibson being up by 12 with 55 seconds left and getting caught and pinned was pretty surprising. He met the kid again in conso semis and teched him by middle of 2nd

That was nuts. Jack James making the semifinals was a surprising run. Collin Teutsch made the semifinals for Caldwell County, beating Olivia Messerly second round. Then Messerly turns around and loses to a kid she beat twice this year from Campbell County. State is so unpredictable. Anything can happen.

I would say Ty Lehman going the distance beating Merritt and Pogue was one of the bigger surprises of the tournament

Hell of a tournament run for Lehman. Kid looked strong as an ox. Union has a JV kid coming up next year who beat Lehman at the raider rumble last season. He’s relatively unknown now but could be someone worth mentioning next season. Darius Moore over #2 Smith second round was huge.

Rankwrestlers has a lot of flaws considering it is constrained by the data it has access to, the flaw isn't with the system per se but the issues of data management and scheduling

It would be a lot more accurate if people were forced to keep their track wrestling results updated weekly. It would be a great tool for ranking. The problem is some kids and teams from out of state aren’t on track at all so those wins and losses really only reflect against the record and not the overall score for a wrestler.

Now if we could find someone like Ranger who spent every day/week looking at outcomes and was able to set aside bias.  I would be aboard 100%.

I would guess at least 2-3 hours a day reviewing data throughout the year is what it would take.

Who at KHSAA has any wrestling background and would be able to accomplish this?

In three years, Ranger needs to set this up as a contractor for the state.

Ok, the final update after regionals.  This is the final RANKING and does not have anything to do with state.  The Ranger report will consider the bracket and draws.

I won't blab much here as I need to spend every waking moment working on the report (Spencer is actually spending an inordinate amount of time helping me with a lot of it).

The only regional things I will address are: 1) great team race in region 6 and 2) many region 6 coaches were appalled that the last minute weight allowance prevented 2 wrestlers from competing because they were too light per KHSAA directive

Best of luck to everyone and looking forward to another great and safe state tournament!

Question about the two wrestlers who weren't allowed to compete. Did this extra two pounds push them to a lower weight class and they weren't allowed to bump up more than 1 weight class?

Already picking 2nd round picks?  At 126 both Martinez and Wells have to make it past tough 1st round matches before meeting.

Martinez has to beat Pittman and Martinez has to defeat Simmons.

PIttman defeated Martinez earlier this season and Simmons defeated Wells this season.

126 has been a mess all year.

my bracket has pittman over martinez in second round.
