Ranger does an amazing job, my goodness. Trying to just put 8 kids in the semi state together and I still had the seeding way off in a few weight classes. Thank you!

I do know he has spoken with former Coach Dennis Walls recently and told him his ideas were great, only to go this route. The coaches association needs to present the idea to the board of a joint wrestling commission this offseason to present ideas and ways to make not only state better, but how to expand wrestling. My nephews both got 2 seeds at semi state, but if they don't make it to state, at least they are only juniors and have one more year to hope for normalcy. I feel really bad for those seniors out there ranked top 5-10 that are third man out in those semi states with the very top kids in it. For some, it was their last chance to place. Instead of only meeting your regional opponents in the semifinals (or some chance earlier in consilations), they are meeting them two weeks in a row just for a shot to place. Several times recently the same region has put 3 kids in the semifinals. Hoping for normalcy from the KHSAA is a lost cause seeing how they continuously crap on wrestling just to slob all over basketball. There needs to be a wrestling guru on their committee.

Anyone else pinned everyone they faced?

I do like the 1-4, 5-8 semi state idea. It really will help guarantee the best 16 kids to state when taking the top 8 from both. Some of these "semi-states" now have more than 5 kids ranked top 16. Taking top 4 still leaves some of the best at home if going to district, regional, state format. Split it to two semi states and roll that way. I also prefer the 32 man brackets, but if they do change, don't keep it how it is now evenly distributing the top 8 medals across the state. It's like a participation trophy for a few of these areas.

And possibly a team win the title that in a normal year wouldn’t sniff the top trophy. All due to this terrible set up by the KHSAA.

couldn't agree more.

TKC has been there and done that. Injured last year. Back to his normal ways leading the state in pins and being dominant.

In addition to that, according to Metro Health Department, the wrestler who tested positive is no longer in quarantine. Michael Barren, from KHSAA, hung up on me and would not tell me why if all coaches were willing to wrestle on Sunday that KHSAA would still not allow that. The KHSAA is just showing their true colors now. Not going to be too many friends for them in the wrestling community. Such a terrible organization. No one will change my opinion of those buffoons in the KHSAA.

This wrestler tested positive that Sunday and we immediately went into quarantine while trying to contact JCPS about the situation. JCPS would not inform us of the protocol but we chose to quarantine anyway. We never held a practice with said wrestler.
A parent from another school was somehow informed about our situation and called JCPS on Wednesday demanding we get taken out of the tournament. We were then informed that per JCPS policy we couldn’t compete until Sunday March 14th. We tried to move the regional tournament to Sunday but KHSAA wouldn’t allow it, we tried to appeal the JCPS decision and they said no
Who wants to bet it was the parent of a 145lb wrestler?

The other piece to the puzzle, is the most important tournament in all of this is the Region. If you can't find your way out of region, or get a poor seed coming out of region, that's not going to be of much help down the road. You have be able to at least challenge for a region title, in order for any move to make sense. In almost every sport, looking ahead will usually get you in trouble.
Region 3 and 4 can look ahead. Win no matches or even 1 match and you're in the finals of regionals.

1 minute ago, rjs4470 said:Yep. Had a kid who won a region championship like that a couple years ago. But again, there was a hole in the spot in the lineup. And it allowed another kid a shot to wrestle at region. But we made the bump weeks before region. Most teams with championship aspirations, aren't going to have many holes, and likely wouldn't wait around until the night before region to make this type of decision.
You might be underestimating some teams out there.

What weight class did that epic quarterfinal match between Bryce and Trent Johnson take place?

Thanks for the rankings. 11 of the top 15 @ 126 are in that western semi state. 5 of the top 8. Only two move on. Shameful

I am doing the same with that semi state ranking. letting this weekends shenanigans ride.

Crazy state among the 8 wrestlers that are currently seeded 1-4 in each region. If they want to do a semi state, I would like to see Regions 1-4 and 5-8 wrestle. Take the top 8 from each semi-state. 16 man bracket run just like Indiana (lose first round, you're out). Get the right kids to the state tournament and create a 1 day event as no one would wrestle more than 5 matches. This would be ideal and pretty exciting from the first round on.
I already suggested this as well as Caleb Canter. The KHSAA just does not want to listen to our input.

Stephen Little to 170... joking. Hopefully brackets get released early instead of right as the tournament starts.

Congrats Nick. Florida wrestling has quickly been on the rise.

Think about it, in a time of Covid restrictions we had a full State Tournament. With 32 man brackets, single mat final, designated mats for consolation placement, finials face offs, finalist singlets, live stream, unlimited spectators, individual awards and completed start to finish in about 7 hours! I don’t think you could ask for more. Thank You!
The KHSAA doesn’t even take into consideration the begs and cries from the wrestling community. Good job KFWC for hosting a state tournament how it should be.

Congrats Keith! How did Josh Walls not get it? Just curious. Like last year when union shattered records in the high school tournament and Robert Ervin didn’t receive it. Impressive for Ryle to get 3rd as a team bringing 6 kids tho. Props to them.
