Things are starting to round into form with most everyone getting on the mat and on weight. I’ve removed everyone (I believe) who hasn’t tested and will adjust everyone to the weight they have competed at after this weekend (wanted to give everyone a week at the +2).
Couple interesting notes:
- To be the champ you have to beat the champ; with a few changes in lineups, Union has just edged Ryle in the current rankings. This is shaping up to be a fantastic battle between two really really good lineups. Would be a great dual.
- We had round 1 of one of my most anticipated matchups of the year. No, not the northern Ky match, but Giannone v Kinley. A back and forth battle that I can’t wait to see the last few weeks of the season.
- Most weights are pretty straightforward, but heavyweight has a lot of chaos so there are about 35 kids who could argue to be in the top 25.Might get that dual at the Bryce Sheffer Duals later on.

They are wrestling today.

He did lose to Petey Graham who is ranked 11.
How many are forfeits?

Slowly starting to take place. Thanks for the rankings. Found this result from last season that is interesting.
01/08/2021285Pike lost 3 times to Mooney, beating him twice. Lost to Marshall (Ryle) 2-1.

Ryle Rumble is a rough draft of the season and final outcomes. Union has won state the last 6 years and can’t ever remember them winning the Rumble. Never have a full team there due to sending their best to the Ironman, ACTs, etc., plus out of state teams throw a wrench in some weight classes, whereas that wouldn’t be the case down the road for other teams kids to place higher without getting knocked off by a non KY wrestler. Ryle placed many more kids higher overall.

Team A and B wrestle at a location on a Tuesday then turn around and both teams A and B cancel a Thursday dual at Team C for no reason. I would stop scheduling these teams that cancel year after year, or do contracts. Their cancelation was non Covid related as both Teams A and B wrestled a tournament on that Saturday. Team C can't hardly get teams to wrestle them during the week.

Ryle is stout! TJ Meyer was impressive. Unranked Corithian Seales wins it at 215. Kinley with big win over Messerley.
-
Eckman and Little are at Ironman this weekend. Wouldve loved to see Duke vs Little at 190.
-
Have you tried Union County down the road? Henderson and Union face each other in just about every sport (except football I believe). They have teams cancel on them left and right for dual meets, and can't get anyone to wrestle them. It is like clockwork.

Yes they were studs and quickly moved up the rankings, but I never just assume they are better than kids who have proved HS results.
To be honest, I don’t have any evidence to back my statement up. But if I had to bet my horse farm on Jayden being the top 106lb wrestler, I wouldn’t blink an eye.

Sleeping on Jayden Raney like Jordyn last year.

He was my practice partner until they moved out to Fruitland, ID.

I don't want the split. A small school has been winning overall anyways, others can compete too.

I'd have to guess the points differences won't be too extravagant like last year since placing 4 regions in each semi state instead of 2 regions.

Heard that several weeks ago.

I am highly in favor of combining four regions to make two semi states if having a semi state is the route decided to go. Prefer the 32 man brackets, but semistates of two regions gives those louisville schools chances to place when other kids are left out. If there are two semi states, there will be plenty of regions that send all four kids through to the final round in certain weight classes by placing top 8 at semi state, and some regions maybe not send a single kid through in certain weight classes.

I bet both Raney's do. Compete with high school all year and wrestle in select few middle school matches until post season. They are going for what 5 titles each in middle school?

I see you Dee!

On 6/15/2021 at 11:41 AM, grappler-of-old said:Tennessee uses the previous year to seed. (1. Must be a regional champ, 2. must have placer in high school career) Is this better than what we have? Don't know, I personally would rather get a bad draw because of randomness than a technicality (did not place the year before)
Jayden Raney who will be in 8th grade is screwed by past criteria. Almost certain to be at 106 this year, was not on the varsity team due to his size and no lower weight class. He won't have previous regional champ or placement, but assuredly will be one of the top, if not the top kid at 106. Union will be in Ryle's position if it is a normal season, wrestling out of state for almost the entire season. So this kid might go into regions with a few losses to out of state kids and end up with a 3 or 4 seed at regionals due to past criteria and his record.

I think what got him the second time was he took his singlet off while still on the mat

Giannone has been a kid I really enjoyed watching and working with the last couple years. Hate to see his season end like this but I’m sure he will be back and better next year.
Yeah the fact they didn't do that last week and did do it this week makes absolutely no sense. It should have been done at both tournaments. SMH
