Thanks for the info. Always rooting for our ky kids. Hopefully he bounces back and does what we all know he can do.

    Raider Rumble

Unfortunately, I have to fly back to Florida Saturday morning. I will be there in spirit. You do realize that the SWOCCA snobs will do a number on the KY kids seeding. I always love it when our KY kids blow up the bracket. Hopefully your meathead and the other KY kids tear it up. Speaking of rich & famous, how many houses do you own? I only have the one. LOL

Looked like a great tournament. Hopefully we can get Dave Johnson and the crew to get this on video. Some of us out of town would love to watch.

    KY proud

They are both red/gray shirts this year. You are correct that Ryan with be listed under finger lakes and Mason under USMAPS. Jason and I both try to put updates on Twitter. I am @cbcornett and Jason is @ranger_moore I f you wanted to follow. Thank you for being interested in their transition to college. So far so good. They have both place in every college tournament they have attended. We have high hopes for them in both wrestling and academically. Only time will tell. If they put the work in daily, they will be successful in both aspects. Thanks again for your interest.

What are the BEST off season Camps?

i agree that any thing Coach Burroughs is a part of is worth attending. Looking back, I think the Jordan camps were the most beneficial. Your wrestler is not going to learn standing cradles or flying squirrels, but they will learn solid technique and wrestle with some of the toughest kids in the country. Make sure you ask Jeff to put your kid in the hammer camp. They usually hand pick the kids for that one. No matter what you attend i don't believe it is wasted money. Your kid is on the mat getting better. We don't get a handbook on how to raise wrestlers, we usually look at the guys that came before us and ask them how their kid had success. Wrestling is the best sport on the planet. Keep grinding and put your kid in the best position to succeed. Good luck this season.

    Schools that should add programs

D1 is great but I can tell you as a parent it’s not as important as the education my son is going to receive. My son was fortunate enough to be recruited to a D1 school which is great. The reality is that Mason understands wrestling gave him the opportunity to attend West Point. Rather he becomes an all American or not it really doesn’t matter. He will graduate from one of the top universities in the country which will look pretty good on a resume. I think parents and kids get caught up in the whole D1 thing. I think if kids are doing a sport they love and they can use their hard work to gain a free college education, I would call that a success. If you want to get noticed you need to compete outside of the State. Send letters and videos to college coaches going into your junior year. Based on my experience you would be surprised at the responses you will receive from the largest wrestling schools in the country. Kentucky is not a highly recruited state. Athletes need to do the leg work with emails and compete at large events and get noticed. If a wrestler can earn any money for college I would call that a success. D1 or not.

    Time to say goodbye

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday. Please remember to bring a chair and a towel if you plan to swim. The turnout should be great based on all the messages I have received. I assure you that you don’t need to be part of the nky mafia to attend. There are so many great people in the wrestling community that I am looking forward to seeing Joe B, that means you too.
  10. I wanted to invite the wrestling community to a graduation/going away party on June 30th. Mason will be leaving for West Point on July 13th and we won't be far behind. We are moving to South Florida shortly after. Over the years we have had hundreds of different kids to our barn to train. It has been an amazing journey. The wrestling communtiy is such an awesome group of people. The party will take place at 2pm, Saturday, June 30th at our house. 14876 Brown Road Verona, KY 41092 We will supply all the food and drinks. The only that I would suggest is that you and your families bring a chair. There will be swimming, basketball, and who know's, maybe we can get a few wrestling matches in. I would love to have the opportunity to say goodbye to all the friends and family we have had the pleasure of meeting over the years. Hopefully we will see people from NKY, Union County, Wayne County, John Hardin, St. X, Trinity, Woodford County, North Oldham and so on. There are to many people to thank for all they have done for my son. Not to mention all the memories we will always remember. My hope is that we did our part to help wrestlers in Ky over the years by providing them a place to train no matter what school they attended. The reality is that Jason Moore aka Ranger is the one who made it happen all these years. Thanks again to the wrestling community and I hope to see you all there, Brandon aka Dutch

I think you might be 10 years off.
  14. WOW. They really bought a trailer to haul mat's? That sounds like a good use of USA money. I might have used that money to get a young group of wrestler exposed to larger national events. All I hear about is growing the sport of wrestling in this state and getting kids involved in offseason tournaments. Especially, exposure to freestyle and greco. I remember (Coach Moore, Coach Roth, and myself) taking 11 kids to the same National Duals this thread is talking about. None of use knew much about freestyle or greco. I think only two of the kids had wrestled a freestyle match in their life. Our kids took a butt kicking, but it got these kids exposed to these type of tournaments. I also believe it helped mold these kids into some pretty good high school wrestlers. More than half of these guys earned scholarships to wrestle at the next level. Bradley Miller Brandon Miller Shay Horton Blake Roth Ryan Moore Brady Wells Mason Smith Roger Young Blake Denny Chance Lanham Ray Karl Ervin If it is a money issue, there are a ton of people in this state willing to help out. I know this because every year Ranger and I put on the Kentucky All-Star tournament. It's amazing the support we receive from people every year. I think most people in the state appreciate the effort that is given from multiple people in the state to grow wrestling. Fundraising was also mentioned. Did we even ask people to participate? If growing the sport is the purpose, then it seems like there could have been more effort in making this trip happen for these kids.
  15. Are they really not sending a middle school team to Indy this year?

Greatest of all time per wt. class (Region 6)

Frank was during my time. I remember the talk was always frank vs Dion Washington. I believe frank beat him twice. Frank was probably giving up 50lbs to most heavies, but was to fast for most of them.

Greatest of all time per wt. class (Region 6)

I thought of a few more names that were dominate in Region 6. Mike and Matt Lee. They were wrestling varsity at an early age for a very tough Simon Kenton team. Logan Erdman was one of the most talented wrestlers I have ever seen. Man I loved watching him wrestle.

Greatest of all time per wt. class (Region 6)

I would have to agree that Austin Myers is number one since he won 4 regional titles at 220. People feared him. I wouldn’t have wanted to wrestle him. Region 6 has historically been the toughest region in the state. We have had some dominant kids that come out of region 6. I will only speak on the last 10 years. Garth yenter, Sean Fausz, Clay Brown, Kevin Cooper and Casey Cornett come to mind. They all have multiple state titles and we’re fortunate enough wrestle D1 in college. Casey and Fausz have multiple placements at National Events The next group from region 6 in my opinion is Tanner Yenter, Brady Wells, Ryan Moore, and Mason Smith. As far as the success outside of the state from region 6 it has to go to Austin Myers 3x NHSCA champ, NHSCA runner up, Flo Champ, multiple Fargo AA’s. Ryan Moore would be a close 2nd. 4x NHSCA placer, 3x Flo Placer, Fargo AA. Call me homer but I will throw Mason’s name out there for success outside the state. 2x NHSCA finalist, Flo Nationals AA, Cliff Keen preseason nations AA. I would love to hear some more names. I can tell you all these guys were fun to watch but my family goes way back to the 80’s as far as following wrestling. I have a brother that is 8 years older and I grew up with all the tough wrestlers from Conner in the 80’s. They would all hangout at my house and I thought they were tough as they come. So for any old timers I’m sure you all remember Todd and Troy Cole, Jay Hargis, and the rest of the beast from Conner. I still joke with Troy that this generation of wrestlers would have kicked their butts.

Greatest of all time per wt. class (Region 1)

Region 1 is easy. BRYCE SHEFFER. There is a long history or tough wrestlers in region 1. Here is my list at least for the last 10 years in region 1. Bryce sheffer Brock Ervin Caleb Ervin Saul Ervin Micah Ervin will win two state titles in my humble opinion. Man that is a lot of Ervin’s. I heard they consider one part of town as “Ervinville”. True story.

    Desanto

That’s why I love this forum. We can agree to disagree. Wrestling is an amazing sport that I have been lucky to be a part of. It takes a special person to make thru the daily grind of this sport. The coolest part is watching these boys become men. This sport teaches them all life lessons that they will carry with them the rest of their lives. I don’t think I will ever be an Iowa fan but I appreciate the sacrifices that these kids go thru. Go Army!! And of course go Cornell!!

    Desanto

I would not necessarily say Iowa guys are dirty just a little different. Mainly the light weights. You can’t say the Brands boys are a little off. Ramos has had his moments. Matt McDonough throwing away his medal at the big tens and refusing to stand on the podium. Gilman basically picking a fight with Dresser at a fundraiser. I could be wrong, but some of those guys don’t seem all there.

    Desanto

We were at the EIWA’s this year and witnessed the Desanto show. We were in the front row about 10 feet from the mat. Desanto was losing to Chas Tucker and he was losing his mind. During the match he was yelling at his coaches and we just shook our heads. His mom was in the row behind us and when he lost she went crazy. She started dropping F bombs and flipping everyone off. Poor little Spencer Moore looked terrified. Guess the apple doesn’t fall far Friday m the tree. I cant imagine the Cael would deal with his antics. I think Iowa might be a good fit. I have always said most of the Iowa guys seem a little off.

    Virginia Beach Nationals

Even though it didn't work out in the finals we are very proud of the boys and their efforts. They have had success at Virginia Beach during their 4 years of high school. Ryan Moore is a 4X All American Mason Smith is a 2x All American 2x finalist Trent Johnson 3x All American Multiple kids from KY are making the trip every year and I hope every year we continue as a state to send our kids to compete. The high school journey is over for these 3 and what a ride it has been. I hope more and more KY wrestlers continue to compete at National tournaments and get our state noticed. We have so many great KY wrestlers and sky's the limit.
