  2. Thanks for the kind words. You son is a great kid and you have to be a proud father. I agree that when the whistle blows a switch should go off. However after the match there is no reason the kids shouldn't be friends. Thanks again and congratulations to your son on his state placement. That's not an easy thing to do. I will send you an email with my contact information.

    TEAMS and COACHES

I would have to agree with coach Q also. I also think Jason Moore (campbell),John Roth (walton),Kyle Goldsmith (North Oldham), Jory Whorton (John Hardin). These are all top notch programs that have produced some unbelievable wrestlers.

    strength vs. technique

Great response. When I think of the current middle school wrestlers there are a couple that come to mind. Leavelle from christian county has to be pound for pound one of the strongest kids i have seen. Trent Johnson is not just strong but have unbelievable technique as well. I believe strength is an advantage at the younger ages but the older they get technique seems to overtake the strength. No doubt that strength, technique, speed and conditioning are the 4 ingredients that make the perfect wrestler. Not to mention the mental toughness. That might be the most important of all.

    strength vs. technique

Obviously both is the best combination but I think technique wins most battles. What do you think?

KY State Duals at Campbell County

I personally liked the idea of putting this together. I was told it was a great day of wrestling. I am sure all the teams that attended we fully aware of the ages that could participate. Wrestling older kids is a part of wrestling. There a quite a few 4th and 5th graders wrestling middle school. Those kids will have to face 7th and 8th graders any given week. I say if a parent feels like this is to much of a disadvantage I can tell you it happends all the way through high school. I have an 8th grader who has wrestled multiple jr and seniors this year. If I felt like he could not compete or had a chance to get hurt I wouldn't let him compete. Since I don't mind him competing against older kids I'm sure not going to complain about the age difference if he loses. Glad to see youth trying to do some different things to create tough competition for our youth wrestlers.

    Ranger

I think to put together a list is not that difficult. However to put together a list like ranger does is a different story. The time and research he puts in to make such an accurate list is something else. Not to mention that he does this for both high school and middle school. I think we should also remember he is the dealing a few other responsibilities that might put the rankings down the list of priorities Job Father Husband Head Coach of the 4 time defending middle school state champs!!! President of MS state association The multiple emails he receives daily about this kid beat that kid He says it all the time. Feel free to post your own rankings if you would like. So thank you for the all the past and present rankings you provide us with.

    middle school state seeding meeting

I personally like the fact that Ranger led the charge to keep evolving our middle school wrestling. I think a lot of people have make some valid points. I like the fact that people are willing to attempt to make changes. No matter what changes are made or not made not everyone will be happy. That is why their is state association meetings to take a vote. As far as the seeding itself it will never be perfect here in Ky or any other state. However I think the majority of people like the process of trying to put the top kids on opposite sides of the bracket. As long as I have been going to tournaments the brackets have always been a topic of discussion. If I had a choice of blind draw vs. seeding I would have to go seeding. The point I made on the my last post is that seeding is not always perfect and calling out people for teaming up to get what they want is silly. There is no conspiracy theory. There are to many variables that make it 100% accurate. I would have to imagine that most of the coaches that voted feel like they got it right. I say most. No matter what seed those top 16 kids in each weight are I can assure you they can all wrestle. They had to work their tails off just to have the honor to be in the state tournament. I say keep moving forward with the willingness to change. Im sure we will make mistakes but as a whole we can probably do some amazing things to make this sport grow. Finally I say come to the meetings and meet face to face with the ideas that are so easily typed on a public forum. Participation is the key to growth.

    middle school state seeding meeting

Are you speaking for all of Johnson central when you made this silly post calling out all of nky? I am in northern ky and I find this comment childish. I have your read multiple post about nky being bias. From rangers response it sounds like you are mainly upset because your son did not receive the seed you thought he deserved. I thought it was pretty black an white when it came down to the head to head. I know as a farther you want to argue to get him the best possible seed in order to have success at the state tournament. I get it. Their must be a better way to go about this than calling out the entire nky area. I believe that their were over 20 coaches from around the entire state voting on this. As far as seeding it will never be perfect. I believe their was a debate that involved my son mason. Sounds like there was good points made on why he should be the 1 and Brock the 2. It seems like it could have went either way. Personally I wouldn't be upset either way. When I was told about the debate my response "give him 2,3, or 4. I personally believe that Reguardless of what seed you are, you are going to have to wrestle. My point is that I have seen a lot of top seeds get knocked off early. I know from my sons trip to state last year. The cream will rise to the top. The last thing I would do is call out an entire area of the state because I wasn't happy with a decision. I am northern ky and I have a facility at my house that is open to any wrestler that wants to come. I have had the privilege of having kids from all over the entire state showing up to train and get better. Doesn't matter what school and of course it is always free. My point is you label all of nky as bias. Maybe you should ask around and you might find that there are some people in nky that go out of their way to help any kid that wants to get better. I wish your son and the rest of the kids that made it to state the best of luck.

Toughest weight class in each region?

I think this discussion is getting a little out of hand. It always amazes me when I see people create a screen name on a forum and their first post is stirring up drama. If we were talking about two kids in the same weight I could almost understand that. Almost! But to sit here and talk about what kid would smash what kid in two different weight classes makes no sense. The two kids you are talking about are both great kids and insanely good wrestlers. I hope they are both able to win a state title this year. I can tell that both Blake and Ty's dad would not care for this. I can tell you that Blake wrestled the entire year at 92. He did drop once for philo. If you know anything about philo you probably understand. If you look at our team 92 was best for the team. Nobody was running from anyone. My son also dropped from 121 to 115 for the team. Does that mean he ran as well? It's about trying to win a team title. I personally think that a kid that walks around at 90lbs and is willing to give up weight to fit other kids in a line up is team player. I know so much about Blake because I have been coaching him for years. The kid is a champion with a proven record. So it's fun to pick who will win each weight class. Every year there is a lot of debates That's fine. But when it becomes personal attacks on middle school kids it becomes ridiculous. Hopefully Ty nor Blake will ever read this thread. I wish them both the best of luck this year.

    Hammer and Anvil

I talked to bandkamper at ms regionals today and told him about the debate. He said he might have to give a slight edge to the 04 team. He said that team never lost a dual or tournament. He did also mention the 90-91 team. Campbell county has a great tradition. I'm sure they have a few more tough teams coming in the future.
