Brent Metcalfe won by T.F. over Caldwell a few years ago at the NWCA. Obviously a totally different story in the NCAA finals. Taylor is just so dominant and can make a close match a blowout in a hurry. I saw what he did to Sponsellor a few years ago and it was brutal. That being said, how can you bet against a returning 3 X NCAA Champ? Especially when Dake owned him at the Trials--totally different sport though. Cornell wants the national title and if Dake can beat Taylor in Des Moines who knows what can happen in the team race. I'm pulling for TOSU Buckeyes though!

I think it's more likely to see UoL or UK adding women's wrestling. What a turnaround on Title IX issues that would be. It almost killed wrestling, but may end up saving it. We're down to 77 DI schools sponsoring the sport and probably a dozen of those schools are considering dropping it. NAIA and DIII programs are wonderful, but we need to keep the sport string at the DI level too.

NCWA offering scholarships? That's news to me. Which schools, how much, and what's the source of funding?

He's fun to watch. The Indiana kid was gassed at the end and ended up giving up 2 on a nice inside trip. As good as he is I doubt he pins through the state tourney. Not that he's not talented, just that it's an extremely difficult thing to do.

The worst matchup for the 220 from CC is an ultra-athletic stud who has superior conditioning. Someone who can win a few flurries and wear him down. I think he's vulnerable and certainly no lock.

Anyone besides me still waiting on a refund from this? -
He was 28-7 as a defending national champ.

J Jaggers lost a dozen or so matches enroute to his second national title. Guess what? He won when it mattered most. Same goes for the "less accomplished" state champs in HS.

I just rewatched the video. I agree, Dake was far superior that day. I still say, don't bet against Taylor in a folkstyle match.
-
Freestyle is a different sport altogether at that level. I'm one still believing Taylor defeats Dake easily in folkstyle. The Olympic Trials outcome means nothing IMHO.

How many would be great wrestlers never tried the sport due to the ridiculous singlet!!?? College wrestling tried the doublet a few years ago but it never caught on. There's no reason it can't work.

IT'S A WRESTLING MAT!!!!! Matt is someone's name. Just sayin'.

262 schools qualified an individual wrestler for the tournament. There are way more schools with wresting. Ohio has over 500.

Rumors are he'll step in at 165. Meanwhile Felipe lost to the 8th seed at the MIT.

I'll be hosting the Collegiate National Championships in my backyard that same weekend. Forgot about what those fools at the NCAA are talking about in St Louis. Sometime this summer I'll also have the Olympic Wresting Tourney as well in London, Ky. The international news media keep erroneously reporting it as London, England. -
The ultimate goal of wrestling is not to get a pin!!! The goal is to win. Of course one should do it within the rules with sportsmanship etc. Takedowns and being able to escape from the bottom are essential. The lack of being able to turn from the top is of no consequence in high school in every state. College is different--just ask Colt Sponsellor.

That was a great match! Here is another phenomenal match as well. http://www.flowrestling.org/coverage/238842-Walsh-Ironman-2011/video/532936-113-lbs-semi-finals-Nathan-Tomasello-CVCA-vs-Zeke-Moisey-Bethlehem-Catholic

Is JCU John Carroll?
-
For no other reason than his kids, keep him off!
-
According to whom? My money is on the kid from ST X at 160.

I'd be very surprised if a serious wrestler at the Raider Rumble chose to "warmup" with a kid not involved in the tournament. I'd be even more surprised if a coach allowed his wrestler to participate in such a pathetic situation.
