  1. Some states such as New Mexico already do that, that being allowing multiple kids per weight class. I assume because numbers are so low in New Mexico

Would they require every state to do the drop in weight classes? I know Michigan still has the old weight classes and a couple states such as New York still have 98

The numbers get even wilder when you throw in a few more grandkids. Cole Sherman and Connor Sherman are the only ones I can think of right now.

I don’t know of any family dynasties that are as prolific as the Ervin’s but there is the Walls family of Union and Caldwell and all of the Christian County families such as the Leavell’s

Definitely not true. I picked him as my surprise wrestler at 152 and likely to finish higher than projected.

I will put towards this point that I turned to you back in December and made the point, “This Russelburg kid is really freaking good”

I spent the last three seasons before this year reffing in NE Ohio. We had to attend 6 of the 10 weekly meetings and the state mandatory rules meeting in October just to be able to ref post season. I went from reffing all levels in Kentucky for 7 seasons to mainly junior high in the Cleveland area with a few high school duals thrown in. The meetings were informative and brought up real match situations that happened locally the previous weekend (some of the refs there reffed Ironman and other big time tournaments). They chose a person each week to discuss a specific rule with a video presentation. They treated it like a second job, as you know they do get paid to ref. Kentucky should go back to implementing these mandatory meetings. With today's technology, even the rural areas can set up a video conference due to many refs in parts of the states living so far away and not so much centrally located like we were in NE Ohio where we were able to meet at a local high school every Monday night.

Ref any Cleveland Heights matches? I used to coach there

  5. An issue I saw is that the second ref is basically superfluous in Kentucky the majority of the time. There was a heavyweight match where a takedown wasn’t scored because neither ref was watching the clock, there was also a noncall in a finals match where a secondary ref needs to step up and say, “yes that’s the rule.” It’s frustrating because this past state tournament I saw very good refs make mistakes they shouldn’t have had to make. I know that there is an issue with keeping our ref numbers up but just like with coaching just because we know and respect each other doesn’t mean we can’t push each other to do better. Some of the best refs in the country are here in Kentucky, but even then mistakes are made.

I see lots of stories by skimming through results.

    - Union and Jc send 14 to state.

-Jc completely dominated. Giampolo gets revenge for his MS finals loss.

    - has a girl qualified for state? She has now.   Ashley Courtney at 106

    - in region 1 - Skuljan is ejected. Adams and Merritt have an awesome match!

    What did you guys see?

The last girl to qualify for state was Priscilla Brownfield from Campbell County in I want to say 2006

How are the rankings determined?  Meade Counties Connor Geise 145 Freshman beat 3 of the top 25 in the state duals

He didn't I'm assuming you think he wrestled Brennon Conrad, Neal Aldridge, and Ronan Wyatt

He actually wrestled Jake Richman, Timmie Dunham, and Joe Rivera

This is very common, I have a coworker who thinks his nephew pinned Bradley Miller when in reality he pinned another Taylor County wrestler

Looks like Cowan also has a win over Radzhapoz

Yes but the latest result is Radjapov over Cowan. That’s how rankings work.

I’m not going to speak much more on the topic because as someone who did rankings for several years i respect Ranger’s professional opinion and don’t want to be a guy to whine or nitpick over rankings because that’s not my job nor is it of any interest to me. I was just confirming a result that occurred. Cowan is one of the best in the state and his body of Work of course demonstrates that. In case anyone quotes me wanting to continue the conversation I’m not really interested in adding more to the topic. Personally I feel I’ve said too much as it is

Zach Cowan at 4 is questionable to me. I'm pretty sure he lost to Radzhapov and then Radzhapov turned around and lost to Fletcher same day.

I know you didn't check regional brackets, but Royar - 120 is out for the season with injury. Not in regional bracket and hasnt wrestled in a long time. One more week til state. Thanks Ranger

Yes Radjapov picked up the win over Cowan

Why do regions like to hold back on putting them out?

There have been times that even after building the brackets coaches don't want the brackets out. In those instances they say their wrestlers will get all worked up and worried about who they're wrestling. Personally I say always release the brackets as soon as possible, I think it's best for the sport to do so.
