Thanks again, Mathound, for doing such a great job running the tournament. There's no way it would have went off the way it did without your help and leadership with running tournaments.

If you are planning to compete in the District 7 Tournament, I'm trying to be a little proactive in planning. We need a location, but before we can account for how much space we'll need let's put together a list of schools. Please contact me here if you plan on being at the tournament so we can get an idea for number. Thanks!

University of the Cumberlands is running a joint camp this year with Barry Davis (head coach of Wisconsin), the head coach at Wisconsin. Follow the link: http://www.barrydaviswrestlingcamp.com/

It happened in 1996 at 140 lbs. out of the Lexington Region as well; Region results were: 1. Joe Carr, Jr. (Woodford Co.) 2. Robbie Laslie (South Oldham) 3. Pat Szydlowski (Oldham Co.) 4. Dan Moody (Paul Dunbar) State results were: 1. Joe Carr, Jr. (Woodford Co.) 2. Andrew Tinsley (Caldwell Co.) 3. Pat Szydlowski (Oldham Co.) 4. Dan Moody (Paul Dunbar) 5. Robbie Laslie (South Oldham) 6. Martin (De Sales)

It does add water weight; it basically super-hydrates muscle tissue so that you don't fatique as quickly and recover faster. For the off-season, it's great if you're going to be lifting consistently and looking to put on bulk muscle. Don't use it during the season though, as its use is counterproductive when trying to shed water weight.

Scroll down to the bottom of the article to see the brackets. These won't be official until weigh-ins (3 pm today), but you can at least see where everyone is supposed to fall. http://naia.cstv.com/sports/m-wrestl/spec-rel/030409aad.html

Updates through championship quarters; consolations start today.

We're definitely looking at him at UCumberlands, I would love to have him and see him continue to progress. Plus, we need both 141 and 149 for next year, so he could start immediately.

He actually only wrestled Exline at this tournament, but that's still an impressive win and tournament. Here's a link to brackets: http://www.moval.edu/athletics/wrestlingm/files/2009_mvc_open.pdf

Martin is not ranked right now, but if he's not redshirting I would imagine wins over #7 Exline and #4 Hernandez would put him in the rankings. New NAIA rankings come out tomorrow, so we'll see!

Travis beat the 133, Tommy Pretty, who is also very tough. I would be surprised if he isn't All-American this year. -
I have sent proposals to Georgetown College, Pikeville College, and Union College. These are basically the same proposals that I used while interviewing for the job at Lindsey Wilson. While I was obviously not hired for that position, the athletic director there (and my athletic director here) stated that the proposals were well researched and realistic. What a lot of people don't take into account when arguing for college wrestling is the money that goes into starting a program; general interest is not enough to create interest in a school for funding another varsity team. Increased student enrollment, retention of those numbers, and consisteny in production, graduation, and recruiting are all factors that also weigh heavily. While all of the schools I mentioned above are NAIA, it seems that NAIA schools are the most likely to add sports that create less revenue due to their regulations and implementations of Title IX. I really do hope that more colleges in KY will add wrestling, as this would provide more opportunities for KY high school wrestlers as well as impact KY wrestling in the future when those colleges would produce graduates that would return and contribute at the high school and youth levels. Petitions and letters are great, but my basic point here is the need to understand and include the numbers that these schools need to see in order to consider adding wrestling as a varsity sport. While it is expensive to add any athletic team, the proof that the expense is well founded and actually an investment, rather than an empty expense, is a huge stepping stone to having any college or university seriously consider the interest that so many of us have in seeing college wrestling grow in our area.

Does anybody know if Ethan Miller is competing this year or redshirting? We were at 2 tournaments last semester with Mt. St. Joe and I never heard his name. Just wondering... -
Best pound for pound in KY history- Definative Poll and Explanation
danmoody replied to widowmaker's topic in 2009 Season
I pretty much have to agree with Olymipic about Joe. He did what he did in KY, but was also a Junior National (Fargo) runner up and a Senior Nationals runner up. He placed in Cadets as well, maybe a few times. Although he did not All-American in college, he was a 4x qualifier for NCAA's and ran into some tough seeds. As far as someone not mentioned but who had a great career, Dominic Black started late but had some awesome accomplishments after high school. He was a state champ in '87 (I think), then went on to wrestle in college at West Virginia where he was a 3x national qualifier and took 4th. He also competed in freestyle after that, eventually wrestling for the Army, and had some considerable success at that level. -
Typically, the most recent win is what decides the argument. Sometimes, placing in tournaments (if one wrestler placed higher than the other at the same tournaments) and/or common opponents can also be factored into the equation.

This guy is a junior from Waynesville, Missouri (Waynesville HS), although he could have moved from Kentucky. The age doesn't seem to add up, but you never know.

There aren't a whole lot of open tournaments left in the season, the second semester is primarily invitationals and dual meets/tournaments. However, keep your eyes open on themat.com and sites like that, because there are a few here and there. There is an open at Millersville University, January 10, here's more information: http://www.millersvilleathletics.com/sports/2008/10/29/WREST_1029081901.aspx?path=wrestling. Also, there is an open at Cumberland University (Lebanon, TN), January 17, click here and scroll down the schedule to find more information: http://www.cumberland.edu/athletics/menswrestling/wrestle_sched.html. For next year, there are several open tournaments in the first semester. We run one at University of the Cumberlands, the Patriot Open, that falls on the first weekend of November. That may be a good place for you to start! Good luck with the club team, if there's anything I can help with let me know.

Was Perry beaten by Dieffenbach when he was at Lindenwood or when he transferred to Oklahoma State for his senior year? I don't bring this up to detract from your argument; I agree that the NAIA is a tough division. Dieffenbach was a different story though - he transferred from Missouri to Lindenwood after redshirting, had a great career in the NAIA, then transferred to Oklahoma State his senior year. He was ranked pretty highly most of the season, earning that ranking after beating some tough opponents (one of which, I presume, was Perry), but was unfortunately hurt prior to the national tournament. He did wrestle nationals, but I think he ended up a match out of placing.
