  1. I completely understand the idea of fan support and cheering on your team.  It also helps to motivate those kids that usually don't get the fanfare.  I tell them if not for all the kids there we would not have won the dual.

I just remember when I was in school and we actually had a dual the last hour of the school day. The entire school came down to watch the dual.  I was a little guy and remember all the fans there.  However I did not enjoy it.  During the match it made no difference to me because I blocked it all out, but when on the bench I felt my teammates could not here me over the noise. It was annoying to me just sitting there waiting for a dual to end, knowing that regardless of the outcome it made no difference in my goals for State.  Especially if you received a forfeit that dual.

But these are just my personal opinions, I know they are not popular.

  2. I guess you have to change with the times.  I'm still old school, I like the idea that wrestling is an individual sports. Never liked the dual as a wrestler and not a fan as a coach.  Winning duals to me is ho hum.  I much prefer seeing the individual tournament where the best two in the weight class battle it out in the finals. I don't want to see coaches moving kids around trying to win a dual.   But that is just me and I know the push is to make it a team sport, and the fanfair involved is what kids and parents want now.

  3. I want to thank all that attended for the patience.  We had about a 30-45 minute delay when Trackwrestling went down.

The great team I had was able to transfer all results to manual brackets in record time.   Special Thanks to Jason Hale who was running the tournament, Coach Jeremy Young for quickly getting bout sheets printed and copied, and Coach Andy Price for helping write out boutsheets to get the tournament back running.  I also want to thank Coach Allen Dillon and Rachel Blackwood for keeping things calm when everything hit the fan.

We were still able to get wrestling complete and awards given by about 6:30. All in all a great day of wrestling.

    Thank you all

Again, not saying we shouldn't have 285 to give girls an opportunity as long as there is a need.  I just find it a bit ironic how we've had plenty of feedback about how we need to get rid of 106 because it is just a middle school weight class when 1) virtually every other state has it and manages to hold a solid post season bracket with it 2) we actually have enough kids to fill the post season brackets 3) the olympics/college lightest weight for full grown adults is less than 20% higher than 106.  But we forced the NFHS to create a weight class that is 70% higher than the full grown female weight for the olympics and almost 50% above the college heavyweight.

I'm just glad we have weights and can move ahead.  I'm good with it.  We can re-evaluate next year or the year after when we have some real data on participation.

I think what you are missing here is that your two examples are higher level Athletes. I stress ATHLETES. This is high school our main objective is to get kids in extra-curricular activities, to enhance their high school experience, and have another adult watching their academics.  For many kids this will be the first sport they have ever participated in.  I'm good with whatever we do, we are not going to bring the house down regardless if these 2 girls wrestle for me or not.  You know me, I'm just here to get whatever kids I can get out, and  to have them compete at the highest level they can achieve.  If we never win a tournament but have kids working hard to compete, I'm good with that.

  6. Has there been any discussion about the women's regional tournament?

Also:  I'm sure I am not the only one still waiting to find out if I will have enough to have a team or not.  Can we get a list of Women only tournaments up.  If I end up with enough to travel I will need to quickly get a schedule together.

  7. I am surprised there are not more attending.

However I have always argued the cost.  Many families cannot justify spending part of the families vacation money on only one of their kids. I definatly could not justify it for GOO JR.

We in Ky still don't have that many wrestling fanatic families.

I have something started.  Still debating if I want to commit to actually doing both.

C'mon Ranger its not like you have anything else to do.  You will just be sitting in the Ranger Cave waiting for results anyway. :D

Actually I think it would be a good idea if someone else took on this venture.  That way each can keep an accurate account of each season.

  9. I personally believe the opposite.  Having 6 duals in a day allows for some of the smaller teams to get together to dual.  Most of the time you don't run into a problem because of forfeits but now in that off chance that everyone has a Hwt you don't have to set one out.

I worry about the tournament aspect.  I don't want to see a trend to larger tournaments.  We have a problem with already having to spend most of the day on Saturdays in a gym.

And if we have a few mega tournaments on every saturday then it reduces the number of tournament on any given weekend.  I would much rather see several tournaments spread throughout the state on every weekend instead of a few huge tournaments in the wrestling hot spots.
