    All time Goats

This is exactly why I don't like these type of questions. Many of the older guys either did not know about these national tournaments or many of them don't have the means to compete in them. Many of these older names are 1st generation wrestlers in their family, therefore it was not a top priority to compete nationally or find a way to do so. I do admire those families that sacrifice a ton for their wrestler to compete nationally. I however don't hold anything against those that didn't or don't. We all know how hard it is to keep everyone in the family happy both those that compete in wrestling and those that don't. I am sure there are even older names from the 70's and 60's that I am not familiar with that deserve some recognition. This is why I like to take these type of questions and look at decades as to who were the GOAT of their era.

I have always hated these type of questions. It's hard to decide who the GOAT is all time. For example just a few names from the 90's Livingston Merritt 3X state champ 6 time placer. Tendi Charasika Extremely dominant during his time. Joe Carr Jr. 4X state champ 1X runner up (2nd his Freshman year) Bruce Stepp one of the most dominant big men 3X SC Willie Ennels 3X SC 1X runner up. (2nd his Soph year) Jarod Trice 2X very dominating (I believe he did not wrestle his Sr. year) Just a few from the past.

Has any information been released for Semi-State at Great Crossing. Event schedule is not available on track.

    State first round?

I'm holding my breath for this to become true.

    Semi state seeding

The only difference it that it was a post season event unlike the Bengals. Plus your talking to one of those weird people who does not watch NFL so I don't know the criteria for seeding in NFL

    Semi state seeding

Here is where I have the problem. Last year Savage got the #1 seed at Semi state after getting 3rd at Region, losing to Brooksbank. This is why I only want the regional champs seeded. Otherwise why wrestle the placement round. All you have to do is wrestle until you qualify, no medals are given. have not gone through the other brackets but I am sure this type of thing happened someplace else. The coaches absolutely hatted having to wrestle kids from their own region the 1st round of state, that is why it was changed 20 years ago. I am not saying my opinion can't be changed, it has already, (Ranger was implemental in this) I was against any seeding at state. I have been convinced that seeding the champions will solve most if not all the problems. I believe seeding more than that will muddle up the rest of the bracket.

    Semi state seeding

If track is able to do this then why was semi-state and state last year so jacked up? As I have stated. I am completely on board with seeding the regional champions. If this is a progressive post season then what happens in region should count more than anything else in seeding. What I don't want to see is kids from the same region wrestling each other in the 1st round. This happened in the early 2000's at state and they fixed it.

    State first round?

I have complete faith in Ryle handling the tournament. They have numerous alumni who help numerous coaches who can help and a knowledgeable parental following. Along with a huge parking lot.

Track does not know what happens in Ohio they do enter results in track. Most of Nky spend 3/4 of their season in Ohio. Track would not even know if they defeated a state champion in Ohio.

    Semi state seeding

I have conceded to seeding the regional champs but beyond that is not possible. The NBA, NFL, .... all are measuring apples to apples. We are measuring apples to oranges. Many teams go out of state for competition, and we have no idea the strength of their competition, many of those states do not use track to counting wins of the opponents you have beaten is impossible. You can't just say he wrestled the kid from the #1 ranked team in the nation, maybe they put in their 4th string kid to try and get him a win.

    State first round?

So does that mean medals and team trophies?

I think this is another case of mistaken identity. According to Track Mr. Gray did not wrestle the #17 ranked kid, it was the same team but not the same kid. Happens all the time.

    Semi state seeding

Like you said who exactly are the true top 2? It is subjective. I could go through the old brackets and see who I believe was the top 2 and did not meet in the finals but that would only be my opinion. I know that many times the #2 from a region made it to the finals and lost. the #1 from that same region did not place 3rd.

    Semi state seeding

Well KHSAA messed up the seeding last year. (This has always been my concern) I would be ok with just seeding the regional champions at semi-state. No reason to seed everyone like last year and have kids who got 3rd in their region get second seed at semi-state. Plus you should not have to wrestle someone from your region in the 1st or 2nd round. Maybe they are the 4 best and they are all 4 in the semi's. (2 of my 3 years qualifying for state my region weight class had 3 in the semi's at state) If you seed the champions then the runner ups will be opposite their regional champ and still be able to make the finals again. We can argue regional strength all you want but its geographical and nothing you can do about it.

    Semi state seeding

Does it really matter at semi-state? The top 8 are going to state. Just qualify and you can still win the next weekend.

    State first round?

Actually District, Region, State, was from 1980 thru 2001 Top 4 in District went to Region top 4 in region went to state, placed top 6 Had a teammate that placed 5th in district got in region as alternate (Someone did not make weight), was 5th in region got in state (someone got hurt in region finals) as alternate, placed 6th in state. Do you really want to have the setup you stated above for state? I agree they are all separate tourneys. Even in the NCAA's a second in conference can win the title. Someone winning the title over someone they lost to the weekend before is no different than someone from region 1 defeating someone from region 8 after losing to him once or twice in the season. Now calling Semi-state wrestlers state qualifiers is a stretch, but hopefully this is just a temporary thing (yeah right) and we get back to a 32 man bracket at state.

    Semi state seeding

They should seed only the champions at semi-state then fill in the rest 1v4, 2v3
  19. grappler-of-old

    Semi state seeding

With only two semi-states there is no need for seeding at state. The 2 champions opposite each other then 1v8 2v7 ..........
  20. grappler-of-old

    Semi state seeding

There is no East Vs West. Only top 4 from four different regionals will be there. 4 champions 4 runner ups etc.

    Sanctioning Girls Wrestling

I was just wondering and throwing up some potential problems. I'm neutral on this topic but if you are going to do it, do it right and sort out all the problems beforehand, so it does not fall on it's face.

    Sanctioning Girls Wrestling

If they don't allow them to compete against boys will there be enough girls to build upon? Some areas may not have enough to compete.

    Sanctioning Girls Wrestling

Maybe this has been answered before. If Girls Wrestling gets sanctioned by KHSAA. Will the girls still be allowed to participate in boys wrestling? I don't know the rules but you don't see girls basketball players on the boys basketball team or vice versa.

I've personally never understood the "post the bracket early" thing. What real difference does it make? Other than getting ready for your 1st opponent there is nothing, and the coaches already know this anyway. As a fan/spectator the regional tournament is going to happen regardless. I find it hard to believe that someone will either go or not go determined by the bracket set up. I am good with not posting the brackets till the start of the tourney. There is almost always a change. Heck back in the stone age when I wrestled I didn't know who I was going to wrestle until I got there and sometimes when I stepped on the mat. Even then I probably didn't know or care what his name was afterwards.

Dropping weight classes cause your scared!

I have always believed that cutting weight gives the kid some skin in the game. If a kid is cutting weight then when he goes out there he will no just give up because he worked so hard to make the weight. Also in todays wrestling we have a skin fold test that tells a kid his lowest allowable/safe weight class to compete. As stated it is ultimately the decision of the wrestler and parent.
