  2. C'mon Ranger its not like you have anything else to do. You will just be sitting in the Ranger Cave waiting for results anyway. Actually I think it would be a good idea if someone else took on this venture. That way each can keep an accurate account of each season.

    Dual meets- 6 matches?

    I personally believe the opposite. Having 6 duals in a day allows for some of the smaller teams to get together to dual. Most of the time you don't run into a problem because of forfeits but now in that off chance that everyone has a Hwt you don't have to set one out. I worry about the tournament aspect. I don't want to see a trend to larger tournaments. We have a problem with already having to spend most of the day on Saturdays in a gym. And if we have a few mega tournaments on every saturday then it reduces the number of tournament on any given weekend. I would much rather see several tournaments spread throughout the state on every weekend instead of a few huge tournaments in the wrestling hot spots.

    Wrestling official Mark Shumate passes

    Mark was a great official, a great representative for wrestling and most importantly a downright great person. He is what every official should strive for. As mentioned by Scotty, he would take the time to listen and explain why he made his call, all without judging the coach or wrestler. I would spend time after a match or tourney talking to Mark about rules, calls made or just wrestling itself. He would always be willing to listen and explain or even learn some things himself to make himself a better representative for Ky wrestling. Mark will be missed greatly by all.

    6-matches a day

    I'm not sure this is a good thing during the season. We as a wrestling community have been trying to reduce the time spent at events. Now that that there is a 6 match rule, tournaments have the ability to be larger and in increase the time at those tournaments. 16 man tournaments will probably be more popular now that the 6 man rule is now allowed.
  6. Holmes will be holding a tournament on December 3rd 2023 next season. It is an individual pool tournament. We usually finish before 6:00pm. We are looking for a few more teams. Ohio has changed their start to the season next year, so we lost 2 Ohio teams. We allow teams to put their extra's in as long as the bracket allows. (Everyone got their extra's in last few years) Last years teams were. Ashland, Campbell County, Central, Conner, Covington Catholic, Dixie, Great Crossing, Holmes, Newport, Scott, St. Bernard (OH), Winton Woods (OH) If interested e-mail Ken Bachman ken.bachman@covington.kyschools.us

    I was wondering why there was not an option for doing both boys and girls at the same time at Altec. Seems to me the venue would be large enough for only 2 days. The state finals could be held at the same time, similar to how other states do there division finals. There also is no details on how large the post season will proceed for girls. (32 man state?)

    The post originally started with 3 brothers. But I'm in for all. I originally was looking for Father/son combinations. They don't have to be placers just state qualifiers. I love this kind of stuff. I'm trying to get Ky wrestling history together. Most states have something, but we don't. I have full state brackets back to 1971 and partial brackets from 1964 to 1970, if you know anyone who may have some of these please let me know. I personally had the brackets back to 1982, Coach Sellers gave me back to 1971 and Jullian Tackett got me the partials from Coach Walls. Thanks coaches.

    I did some comparisons to last years totals. 2022 had 1085 wrestlers compete at Region. This year 1186. 101 more wrestlers this year. 2022 had 119 teams compete at Region. This year 121 teams. 2 more teams (What happened to Danville at region?) Region 7 lost (2) teams, and Region 1 and Region 4 lost (1) team Region 8 gained (4) teams, Region 5 and Region 6 Rained (1) team Region 8 gained (41) participants and Region 4 gained (31) participants Region 5 (+16) Region 6 (+14) Region 2 (+14) Region 2 (+8) Region 1 (-3) Region 7 (-21)

    I need a definition of All State. Does that mean state placer or state qualifier. Top 8 like AA in college??? (only placed top 4 till 80's and top 6 till 2000's)

    19 year old's have always been allowed to compete. The cut off was changed form (you must be 18 when the season started to, You must be 18 when August started) Why punish a kid who may have struggled in gradeschool? If you look at my other post in "Sportsmanship" you can see that KY is more strict than others at age.

    OK you have made this mention in two topics. I looked at both Ohio and Indiana. What is your beef????? Indiana ----1. Age Eligibility (Rule 4). You will not have turned 20 by the scheduled date of the state finals of IHSAA Tournament Series in your sport Ohio--- Bylaw 4-2-1 (High School Age Limitation) Once a student attains the age of 20, the student will no longer be eligible for interscholastic athletic competition notwithstanding where that 20th birthday falls in relation to the sports season.

    OK I went all nerd again with the statistics. I looked at all the teams in each region and determined how many wt classes each team filled. this is what I came up with.
