    Injuries

Iceman I agree with you with one exception. Many times athlets go to their family practicioner for injuries. Many of these family practitioners tell them 3-4 weeks off before practicing. I think coaches can/should recomend that the athlete go to a sports medicine doctor. Not only will this give them a real timetable for recovery, but will probably send the athlete to a physical therapist. Otherwise a coach should NEVER allow an athlete back to practice without a doctors note. Even if the parents give the coach the OK. The coach can always sit an individual whenever he/she feels that it is necasary, which means he actually over-rides the parents decision if they say Yes, but not if they say NO>

    state dual

I think what many of you forget is that wrestling in a minor sport in many of the school districts. They get little to no money for thier programs. If to many of them had to drive 3-4 hours for a tourney they would not attend. It is impossible to leave that date open for the state duals. If you don't make the duals you have an open date. Many coaches will not except that. If everyone did this then there would be no tourneys available. As for some of the coaches on the boarders they have the oportunity to attend tourneys that are tougher than the state duals. It took many of them several years to get invited to these tourneys and if they refuse to go one year they may never get back in. With the state duals being in Lex/Lou area they are centralized around where most of the teams in Ky are located. By putting the duals in E-town most of the teams will have a 3 hour drive to get there. Most of these teams cannot afford to spend the night. At $30-50 a room that gets expensive. Plus paying a bus driver for an overnight stay. I know that the middle school state tourney is there and I know many who will be leaving that morning to weigh in at 7:00 A.M. Leaving at 3-4 in the morning is pretty early to start the day.

Willie did not win state 4 times. He was defeated by Mike Migliochio (TC) (Sp) in 1990 which won Mike the MOW. But yes he was a good wrestler. Not sure if he quallifies as top 10 however. A lot of controversy in many of his matches.

    state dual

I believe the KHSAA has at one time asked if wrestling wanted this event to be sanctioned. I think the overall consencus was no. If the state sanctioned this event then they would set up rigid rules on who may attend the tournament. It would prabably result in the tournament not having 16 teams in it sometimes. As for the region 1 teams, I believe they do not attend because of travel reasons. This is a long trip for some of these teams. These teams would have to leave very early in the morning to make the weigh ins on time. Or they would have to come up the night before. (This option is expensive and many of the schools cannot afford this expense)

    state dual

I believe we went throught this once before but a recap. 1. The state duals are not state sanctioned. The Kentucky Wrestling Coaches Association holds this event. 2. Every region 1-8 gets two teams entered into the state duals 3. Every region must come up with their own criteria on how their teams will be selected. 4. When the teams are selected by each region the names are sent to the coaches assosiation and then if any of those teams are unable to come then alternartanes teams are choosen. 5. Henry Clay (team hosting the event) will get the 1st spot open by another team unable to come. 6. As for how the alternate teams are choosen I don't completely know. The bottom line is that every region is able to send 2 teams to the state duals. Teams decline for numerous reasons. (prior commitments, don't think they can compete, ect.)

    NOW, who is still undefeated??

The thing that bothers me about all of this is how much of a good sport Jason Hardin is. I don't think he has a negative thought about anyone. He congratulates everyone at the podium. To talk so negatively about a person of this caliber is bothersome. Let’s see what the state tourney brings. Stating your opinion is one thing but name calling is beyond the limits. I have seen more times than I like to see how someone (myself included) has made negative remarks about a wrestler or team on here. I think we need to try and keep the responses civilized and courteous. Lets all follow Jason's lead on this. (I for one will be trying my best not to use negative remarks about individuals or teams.) ***I believe you can still state your opinion on who you believe is the better wrestler, just don't make negative remarks about that wrestler.

Has Pad. Till. wrestled anywhere in state this year? I haven't seen anything about them this year. Or did I just miss it?

    NOW, who is still undefeated??

I think the more telling question is who has lost to less than 3 different wrestlers. Some have 2-3 losses against the same person. With losses to only 2 individuals then they could possibly be a finalist. And anything can happen under the big lights.

Now if this isn't a kick in the head nothing is. They probably belong their more than half the teams that will be attending.

Why is it so difficult to get tournament results?

I originally started this forum in the hope to get more tournament information to a central web site. Ie. KWCA. I find it interesting that a battle has ensued with newspaper coverage. We in Nky have pretty much given up on trying to get the Ky boys in the Enquirer or Post. (They seem only to want to post the OH boys). Don't get me wrong, we get a decent pre-season article, and good coverage for the post season. The regular season however is another story. We rarely even get any box scores. I'd say the biggest blame would have to go to the coaches in Nky. Many have given up sending in their info, because they often don't get printed. You Hardin Co. boys seem to fighting over how much coverage you receive. It's interesting that both sides seem to blame the other side. It sounds like two elementary school kids fighting over who will apologize first. I'm not going to do anything until they do something. Hardin Co. coaches: Get a system with your local paper. Ask them for an e-mail address where you can send in your results and schedules. If everyone is sending their information to the same place then maybe more will get accomplished. Local Paper: Set up an e-mail where they can send their results at any time. Realize that sometimes results won’t get in until the next day. (Tournaments run past 12:00 AM many times). Hardin Coaches and Local Paper: Get over whose fault it is. It is obvious that there is enough interest to warrant an article or two throughout the season. With an e-mail set up coaches could send in possible article topics. Bottom line: stop arguing and get something done. You already seem to have a line of communication set up (even though its negative right now). Turn it into something positive and settle this.

Why is it so difficult to get tournament results?

When you say the middle school state tourney will not get anything in, are you saying the results won't be printed? Or are you just referring to an article of some type? Results on all events should be essential for all newspapers in my opinion. It should not be difficult to find a few lines to print the results in the local paper. I'm not talking about a huge article with pictures and such. Just a spot on the sports page listing the results and the team finishes. If we could just get this it would be a start. We can move up from there. Anything more than that I believe must be earned. Anything less than this is poor local coverage.

Why is it so difficult to get tournament results?

My only guess to how your rival got the info was that they except results later then you guys do. 11:00 P.M. is early for many of the larger tournaments to get their info in by. Like I said it is not unusual for tournaments to finish close to that time. I know in Nky they will except scores at any time, you may have to leave it on a recorder but they will except them, and many times you can still get a person at 2 A.M. Not a rip on your paper just an observation. Like I siad if you are posting all the results given to you, I think you are doing a decent job.

Why is it so difficult to get tournament results?

Wolverine; If this is true then I applaude your local paper, this is much more than the local papeer gives Nky wrestling. Nky on average has many of the top teams in the state and on average have one of the toughest regions in state. However the events and results of thier success are limited to the NKAC tournament, possibly the Regional tourney, and the state tourney. As for you Hardin Co. people. If this is the type of coverage you are recieving then you are one of the lukcy ones.

Why is it so difficult to get tournament results?

HCWolverinees: This is a "Chicken or the egg" syndrome. The newspaper won't cover wrestling events until they draw more fans, wrestling events can't get more fans without newspaper coverage. A basketball game lasts about 2 hours. A wrestling tournament lasts about 12 hours or more. There may not be 1,000 fans in a gym for all 12 hours of the event, but my guess is that at many of these events they come close to this over the day. Coaches have trouble getting those results to papers that night because they usually don't leave the gym until 10-12 that night. With all this said. I still believe that newspapers can still spare a few lines on Wednesdays and Sundays for wrestling information. I'm not sure about your local paper, but when they can find open lines for local bowling league scores, I’m sure they can find lines for wrestling results. If the local coaches have not sent their schedules to the paper then they have failed, but if they have then the paper has failed. How can your local teams get a fan base if they are not notified of when the events occur? I'll bet that every football, basketball, and baseball game is advertised in the paper. Why can't the smaller sports get the same courtesy?

Why is it so difficult to get tournament results?

I know up here in Nky the Ky coverage gets overshadowed by Ohio coverage. I don't even think the Conner tournament was posted in the local papers. I do however know that almost every dual meet in Ohio is published in the papers. I know that the papers up here will not publish results when its small teams against large teams. Example: Ryle Vs Holmes or Campbell Vs Newport. They do not want to print restults that are mostly forfeits. Both Newport and Holmes only have about 5-7 kids on the varsity teams. As for getting the results. I was referring to any web site. As you mentionsed the KWCA is the logical answer to this. My point is that each tournament director could easily send this info to Mr. Coomes at KWCA. Why do the coaches fail to do this?

Is this a JV tourney? ST X with three teams? Henry Clay with 2 teams, and Woodfords JV. That's almost half the teams being JV teams.

    is it final

A wrestler could be weighing in at one wt. and wrestling at a higher wt. class all year. They could then still move down. Also if a wreslter has weighed in once at a lower wt. class he can still move down. As long as half his weigh in's are at that wt. or lower.
