Looks like a pretty good showing for Woodford right out of the gates. I should have stopped by Woodford High School on my way to Lexington for Thanksgiving. Would have been nice to roll around with some of the old guys there.

Two nice wins for MU and even without Eirman. That says alot for those guys. Nice job by Austin, wrestled two tough matches. Starting out strong and hope he gets to break into that top 25 soon.

In Missouri now, trackwrestling is mandatory for all teams. You have to put in all events for your wrestlers. Seeding criteria at district is based upon the criteria built into track. Of course, coaches double check them but for the most part they are exact in their breakdowns. If you do not put in your wrestlers matches your school is fined and coach is penalized. Think this would help Ranger and the stat guys out on their ranking system.

Gotcha, thought you meant high school team went to Mater Dei Tourney that UC, Trinity, and St. X go to. Evansville has some great wrestling schools for sure. I know its not easy for you guys but its definitely a great experience and hope you represent well.

When did Woodford go to Evansville? Don't remember those days.

The 50 match limit was up until districts. Depending on the weight class usually determined if a wrestler was getting more forfeits. We have 6 tourneys, but no state dual tourney or qualifier. We are allowed to have 9 duals/tris/quads, as long as it doesn't get classified as a tourney. Most schools schedule quads as to up their numbers as best they can. So if I had scheduled 5 quads and 4 tris, this would give my kid 23 matches from duals alone. Then throw in my tourney schedule:
10 team dual tourney (1 day) 5 matches;
2-day tourney 3 possibly 4 matches first day and 4 matches second day. (20 Teams)
Two day invitational 4-5 matches first day, plus 4 matches second day (28 Teams)
One day invitational 5 matches (16 Teams)
Two Day Invitational 3-4 matches first day, 4 matches second day (20 Teams)
One Day 8 Team Dual Tourney 4 matches
Taking the most possible matches allowed for each day my kid would have 62 matches before district. So, we had to watch totals and make sure kids were getting accurate numbers and tracking forfeits. Still allows for a lot of wrestling in a short period of time but also can allow a wrestler to get a break if he needs one.

When I started coaching in Missouri the first thing I noticed was the limitations on competitions. It was just changed recently to allow a wrestler more than 50 matches only if they were receiving forfeits throughout the year. So a wrestler could be 56-0 going into districts but had received 6 forfeits during the year. Teams have began scheduling more dual tournaments or even 16 man pool tourneys. Allowing wrestlers to get the maximum amount of matches each day they wrestle.
-
MIssouri's First date to compete is just based on eligible practice days. The true opening date usually is last week of November or first week of December. Missouri also has participation limits on their wrestlers which keep the season shortened into a span of about 6-8 weeks. 15 competitions which only 6 can be tournaments.

Good to see KY get a little recognition with Zeke. Hoping he can do great things with this opportunity.
-
That was a difficult call either way. I think if Jordan goes down toward legs instead of up the body he might have gotten the call. But Hall scrambled out right after that. Great match to watch.

You know Wildcat, maybe you should be the one booted from this site. Your comments are meant to stir the pot just as much as anybody's. Whatever was between you and Mr. Myers is over. How about we just root the kid from KY on for once.
-
You are probably looking at the pigtail sections. Guys have to wrestle into those spots. Mr. Myers, how is Austin feeling today? Ready to prove some people wrong? Good luck to him.
-
Illinois' backup 149 got an at large bid, so if healthy, Brock more than likely gets in the show as well.
-
Suriano got an at large bid for NCAA's though. Guess they were hoping for that.
-
Anyone hear the comments by the guys matside saying Hall was the first 6 time Minnesota state champ? I found that kind of funny knowing what we all know here in KY about Mr. Hall.
-
Tech, go across town and you can meet Greg Woodring

My hope is that the 5 timer streak continues at UC with Zeke.

Joe Carr Jr. was far from a JV kid as an 8th grader. Even his freshman year he was significantly better than several of the wrestlers in his division at 119. I was also lucky enough to compete as a 8th grader for UC at 112. Brad Ervin and Junior Brown were also on that team and competed at a varsity level. Brad was our varsity 103 while Junior was varsity 170 I believe. We all gained valuable experience from being on a varsity team and competing at a high level. So, if a 7th or 8th grader can compete no matter the weight, there shouldn't be anyone stopping them from doing so. JMO

Not 100% sure on this but didn't Raynel Brown from UC make it to state as a heavyweight in 8th grade? Maybe 2011 or 2012.

I don't know which instance he would be talking about but I think you would handle it correctly Coach Parks. Always had a lot of respect for you at Woodford. Good luck to you guys

Ya, Coach T I meant the Lee's were middle weights when we all graduated. I wrestled Tom his junior year at 119 in Danville finals. Looked for the rematch at state but unfortunately we didn't get to make that happen. Another one would be Brandon Wilkins, think he wrestled 130 or 135 his senior year.
-
I wrestled a lot of these guys back in my day. Lawson, Cibull, the Lee brothers from Simon Kenton. Think they ended up middle weights by the time we were all out. I liked to watch Jason Talbott when he was coming through.
-
Yeah, not a bad problem to have at all. Just hope the young kids understand that their time will come and they need to take full opportunity of it. Hard to keep kids motivated if they feel like they should be the ones representing the weight when they keep getting beat by upper classmen.

That would be an interesting addition to their line up.

Sometimes it is just a style mismatch. If you haven't been over there to wrestle them that first time can be brutal. Once you know what to expect things will get better.
