Who is poised to upset some people at state?
119Rider replied to DrBaker's topic in High School Wrestling
I am sure that guys 2 posts have both been asinine. lol -
You didn't get the gold because you had bigger and better plans ahead of you. It kept you driven for the next few years to where you were able to accomplish All American status where others were not able to even though they had won the state championships. Teeth

I think I came in and was able to work out with Thomas during Christmas break to get him in a little shape. Was excited to just see him wrestle and what he did made it even more special. I like the kids who are willing to take on the favorite. That's a great attitude not only for wrestling but life as well.

Sprawl, I don't agree with your statement to run where the competition is easier. Why would you want to be known for running from competition just to win your title? Our coach told us what weight would give us the best opportunity to win a title, didn't matter who was there. It was about our wrestling ability and how we worked in the room. If there was a tough guy there then so be it, but we weren't going to run away chasing a title because we all knew anything could happen. I'm pretty sure there was another Buckman a couple years ago with the old school mentality that won a title when a lot had counted him out too.

If he is not living with his parents, then couldn't he be considered homeless under the McKinney-Veto Act. I think that is the one, but that might change his eligibility.

Could be the son of Tim Russellburg. Former Union state placer back in 1994. He had some great genetics.

Team United in Missouri is hosting a summer dual tourney on July 9th, at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, MO. I have attached a flyer below but also may contact me thru here. Last couple of years we have had some talented groups come thru from Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois. Good matches and worth the money for sure! Hurry and reserve your spot. Valley Summer Duals 2.pub

Congrats to AJ!! Look forward to seeing him around Marshall and in our wrestling room. Love when the KY boys make it out west. Coach Woodring

Anyone know of any summer camps going on in the Western part of KY? I know UC had one going for years but haven't heard anything on it yet. Thanks
-
Any idea on weeks and cost for these?
-
Good luck to him. Wanted to make it down to watch but I have some youth coming in tomorrow to prepare for little league state. He has been a great representative for Kentucky wrestling. Enjoy following his accomplishments.

Captain, Will Austin be wrestling Makenna Cook from Missouri on Tuesday? If so he was a light 220 this past year. Will make for a another great match.

Thanks heavy. That's what I was kind of thinking, as a coach myself I don't know if I could put a kid in at that weight to compete with the size of wrestlers today. Props to him if he can get it done at this level with that disadvantage.
-
Did not know that heavy, thanks. What about 113?
-
I know they can bump up but thought there was a minimum weight he must make to be eligible. If he is giving up that much weight plus the 2 pound allowance. That is quite significant. Kid must be pretty talented.
-
Uk_rebel, if he was giving up that much weight I don't think he would be eligible for the weight class would he?
-
Danny posted team score on Facebook. No individuals, sorry. And of course I'm proud. Wish my team wrestled as good as my old team.

UC defeats St. X 48-20.
-
Union wins 66-13 over Wayne.
-
Union County team of 1980 won had 4 state champs and multiple placers when they won it all with 12 weights. Think they held the record for team points until 2003 when South Oldham won it. I would rank them up there with the top teams.

Wonderful Article, Good Luck to Coach Canter and his family on their adventures .

It is a great win for UC. I have been on the other end of some MD home cooking and it sucks. MD fans know a lot and it shows, but they also get my respect for what they have done over the years. I would also take pride in KY as a whole. All KY teams go there with a purpose, and all should be proud.

favorite wrestler you have ever watched and why?
119Rider replied to ManBearPig's topic in 2013 Season
I enjoyed watching Jerrod Trice when I was younger and the Merritts. But as far as most dominant in KY history wouldn't that be Joe Jr. I think he only lost maybe 4 matches ever to a native born wrestler. -
GOO- Livingston Merritt was AKA "Fatman". I think he placed at state as an 8th grader as well. Correct me if I am wrong. Maybe around 145 or so. I can remember watching Trice, Ennels, and all the Merrritts wrestle. Very talented group, but of course I might be a little west Kentucky biased.

Reshaud Wilkins from Union County. Don't think he placed last year and wrestled back to get third this year. Check me on that though please.
