    Raider Rumble

Scary that Union has that much depth in their team. Missing several top guns and still taking home second in a very tough tourney.

    Lindsay Wilson vs Kent State

Austin went out from Maryville Tourney with a medical forfeit. Hope he is okay and gets back to health.

    Flo Rankings

Think we all would like to see Austin representing KY proudly in whatever endeavor that may be. Just because he got beat by a Freshman, who by the way is pretty talented and will beat more than his fair share of college heavies, does not mean he will not beat him later in the year. We know Austin is still working his way back to a starting position. I just hope he gets it back and makes KY proud.

Sammie Henson released by West Virginia. Guess he won't be able to prove me wrong from there.

Don't think I am out of touch with what is going on in college wrestling, just my opinion as to what is happening now. The Big 12 is not what it used to be by no means so saying they beat some originals is not really doing much. How did the Big 12 fair at NCAA's? They were considerably down this year. I am a fan of Sammy's, but still believe he is a better assistant than head coach. I hope he proves me wrong.

AS much as I like Sammy as a wrestler, I have never thought of him as an elite head coach. He pulls talented kids because of his name but I believe they eventually fall off. But his name is beginning to lose its luster with this group of incoming wrestlers. I think he makes one hell of an assistant in the right program.

    NCAA Tourney

If you look at MU's overall record the past several years on the big stage it ends the same. Lots of potential but fall short on promises. Think lot has to do with peaking too early. I know the MAC is not an impressive conference anymore but they seem to be on point every year at the conference tourney but lose a little wind during the NCAA's. Being a fan of them it is hard to watch this happen every year with some talented kids.

Time to go to 10 weight classes

Better yet, have the coaches committee send out a poll to all high school coaches. Ask them if they had eligible wrestlers at each weight. Find out what was the most forfeited weight last year to see where some of our problem areas seem to be.

Time to go to 10 weight classes

You can't say that by eliminating a weight class we will eliminate 85 kids an opportunity when the majority of those teams do not fill a complete line up to begin with. If you raise the minimum weight, then I believe you give more kids an opportunity to be successful at a lower weight. We might not have kids walking around that can get to 106, but I am sure we have kids that get to 110. Thus making it a good starter weight for high school and a competitive one.

Time to go to 10 weight classes

Adding the 4 pounds gives upper class men the opportunity to make 110. I doubt we have very many high school wrestler at 80 pounds. We have middle school wrestlers at this weight which would keep them in middle school tournaments until they develop fully.

Time to go to 10 weight classes

I like the idea of proposed alignment with college. I would drop the 106 lb class though and make it 110. Get rid of 113 for a 118 weight then into the 20's. You still have a lower weight for the little guys and you give older wrestlers more of an opportunity to fill that weight. Best of both worlds.
  12. Was stunned when I talked with Coach Giangrosso the other day after conferences. Thought maybe there was a nagging injury and maybe held out for a bid. Had fun watching AJ this year, and hope his future continues to be bright. He has represented KY extremely well in a talented Missouri Valley room that constantly turns out champs. Good luck to him!

Can someone do medal count by region?

    Random Draw Table is out...

I thought the seed was going by Ranger's Rankings. If Adams is number 1 kid in state and has beaten Wallace, then why is he seeded third? LOL

    Random Draw Table is out...

But who says they are the top 4. Like several others have said, lots of teams travel and have few commons with each other. You could always go back to wrestling for a true second.

    Random Draw Table is out...

National tournaments are a different species entirely. They are not battling the issue of kids being from the same region and trying to separate them as well. If you want to see the tournament then you need to disregard the region the wrestler is from and seed top 8-16 whatever. Then blind draw the others in. This would do away with the random draw of region format that the state uses now.

    Random Draw Table is out...

Seeding anything past the top four is virtually impossible given some regions are just tougher than others. If Region 6 has the #1,2, and 4 kids in the state, and Region 1 has #3, 7, and 8. Your system is already screwed because #3, and #2 could still meet in second round, and #4 might get the # 7 in the first round.

    Team race

Also, GOO, I have seen several coaches before the use of Track in Missouri to conveniently forget to put in a kids loss that might have swayed seedings during district meetings. The mandate by the state has made this process better for coaches. No longer can we hide matches because everyone can see results from tourneys and duals. No more hiding, just wrestling and letting the kids decide their fate.

    Team race

GOO, I understand totally. I run the tourney here for our school now on track. Only seeding that happens is what coaches want, seed 2, seed 4, whatever they deem necessary.

Nike, this goes thru Missouri State High School Association. Trackwrestling works with them to set up accounts for all schools. Our weight certification process goes thru their site as well. Coaches have weigh in sheets tied to their accounts and every meet. After a meet, we have 48 hours to put actual wrestlers weight in. It is locked so no one else can see but you have to bring all of your weigh in sheets to districts in case someone's challenges a weight eligibility. If you go to track, go to Opc, and choose Missouri, you find all results from that day and year. There are no questions to who has wrestled and where. I can go back for the last 4 years and find results if I need to.

    Team race

Missouri uses track to do all of the things we need. Keeps coaches legit on tracking weight and certifications, used for seeding in tournaments, including districts. You must have your weigh ins from each weigh in posted 48 hours after a a match or wrestlers become ineligible for the next meet. I understand that one coach might be doing everything but why wouldn't they want to make things easier for themselves by using trackwrestling. Everything is right there for them. If it is mandatory to use then when dialing, other coaches could put in info at that time and then you go back to double check their info before accepting it. So you really don't have to do as much as you would normally.

It still blows my mind how Kentucky has not mandated these coaches to put in records in a timely fashion. We have too much technology for this to still be a problem. Trackwrestling has greatly improved coaches statistical efficiency and can be used by all. Someone needs to push the powers that be to get this through to the KHSAA board rules.
  24. Missouri Middle Schools are way different. Our season is from end of October to end of 1st semester. We weigh in at beginning of our season and that is it. Some kids weights might fluctuate but our kids are grouped by ability and weight. So if I have a first year wrestler that weighs 85 lbs., he isn't going to get smashed by a kid who has been wrestling for 6 years and was defending youth state champ. Also, there is no state championships, some schools have conference awards for their kids but that is it. We use the middle school setting for growth in numbers, hoping not to burn kids out or just even give them an opportunity to try a sport that is new to them without getting thrown to the wolves right away.
  25. I was thinking same thing, if Deck was gifted 9 points, then it is still 7-0. That in itself is a good fight. Give the kid some credit, he had the best going that day. Next time who is to say it won't be Wallace. Everyone takes losses eventually, how you bounce back from them is what makes you champion material. I doubt Wallace will be down long, he has probably already forgot about this match and moved on to his next.
