So far, I've seeded 106-132. Region champs only. I used head-to-head and KW.com rankings (hope you don't mind Ranger and Dutch). The rest were drawn in according to the KHSAA standard draw table. It was a little time consuming, but not that difficult. I just went to track and looked at each region champs match results for head-to-head. Of course some champs didn't have head-to-head, so I looked for common opponent. If I wasn't already involved with the state tournament, I would seed it, with a committee. I don't think we could get full coaches participation for a seed meeting.

You may not want to miss any matches at 138. Some of the first round 2v3 matches are going to be really good.

We may finally have a time when it actually means something to qualify for 32 man state.

According to Track, Cooper only brought 9. Holmes had 12. Don't complain about losing a dual when you have 5 holes.

Does anyone know if any other KHSAA State Championships are seeded? I know football and basketball are not. It seems every year the number 1 team in basketball goes down in district or region. At the basketball state tournament sometimes the 1 and 2 meet before the finals. In my opinion, if KHSAA doesn't seed the other state championships, they will not seed wrestling state.

There is already a thread on this topic. But, for what it's worth, at the State Tournament in 2005, Cody Moy (PRP 171) had a 5 second pin. Then, at State in 2006, Jason Hardin (PRP 285) had a 10 second pin. I coached them both.

#1 and 2 at 132, Duncan and Bindner. #1 and 2 at 182, Frankrone and Smith. Top 4 at 145! Heidorf, Emerson, Ashford and Andreoni. That's if they all show up.

In 2004, I coached Cody Moy(PRP). He had a 5 second pin in the first round of the state tournament. I believe that is the fastest at state.

Who's to say they are both top four? I think it's a log jam for the top 6-8 spots at 113. If they were 4 and 5 they should meet in the quarters anyway.

If I am reading this correctly, 1st-8th place matches will be wrestled all at the same time. Has anyone even thought to give this a chance? I remember when wrestling cut districts and went to region-state. I remember when kids with braces were required to wear mouth guards. Or when the weight classes changed. Or when we moved to the Horse Park? There was some whining and belly aching, but it worked itself out. What are we teaching our kids through this? That if you do not like something you should write a letter and cry about it? Is this how we want them acting as adults? Is this how we should act as adults? No. Concentrate at the task at hand and get after it. I believe this will be reviewed AFTER and maybe something will change. I haven't read one comment about how someone has an idea to help. I understand the timing and safety issues. I have two suggestions to maybe resolve this. 1-the arena is HUGE. Lay down two more mats and add at least another round to Friday. Keep running on 8 mats until we get to the consolation finals (3 mats). Then break to one mat for championship finals. 2- Go back to district-region-state format. Top 4 from district go to region. Top 4 from region go to state. The best of the best in a 16 man bracket. Finals on one mat. I always hear, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Well, getting out from a wrestling tournament after 11 pm is broke. This change came because of timing and safety. And in case some of us haven't noticed, this winter has been terrible to wrestling this season. So I say, let's see how this goes. Then send feedback to our coaches and athletic directors so they can bring it up at the review. Please do not boycott or protest our wrestling state tournament.

Wow! I didn't know it would get so much and this kind if recognition. I was just pointing out something I had noticed while reading on the KHSAA site.

I think Districts would be a good idea. We have almost doubled the number of programs since we did away with the district-region-state format. 5-8 teams per district (16 districts). Top 4 advance to region, top 4 to state. We will still have the 32 at state. Districts 1 and 2 become the current Region 1, 3 and 4 become the current Region 2, etc.. This could extend the season by a week, having 3 weeks of post season. districts chart.pdf

NFHS Wrestling Rules Book Rule 10 Section 3 Article 2 . . . There shall be no byes after the first round of competition in both the championship and consolation brackets, and no further drawing is necessary for championship or consolation rounds. 10-3-3. . . When byes are required for the first round, they shall be placed by mutual consent or drawn so they are distributed evenly throughout the bracket. 10-3-4. . . No quarter-bracket or half-bracket shall have more than one bye in excess of its paired bracket. 10-3-5. . . After seeded wrestlers have been placed in the bracket and the byes drawn, remaining wrestlers shall be placed by draw.

The 120,152 and 220 brackets in Region 7 need to be adjusted.

Surely someone in Region 7 will look over these brackets and correct them. Not concerned about the seeds or wrestlers, but the byes and first round matches. If a weight class has for example 5 byes, there should be 2 on one half and 3 on the other. However, there should not be 2 in one quarter bracket and none in another. This leads to a wrestler getting a bye to the quarterfinals and consi quarters while others wrestle an unneeded match. Basicly what I am trying to say is the brackets need to be balanced.
