How Many Calories Should A Wrestler Eat?

The Formula for finding out how many calories you NEED to consume daily is:

The Katch-McArdle Formula which helps you figure out your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) based on your lean body weight.

The formula is:

BMR = 370 + (21.6 x lean mass in kilograms)

Here's an example using a 150lb wrestler:

Bodyweight = 150lbs (divide by 2.2 to get weight in kilograms... 68 kgs).

Body fat is 10%. This means he has 15 lbs of body fat and 135 lbs of lean tissue.

Lean mass is 135 lbs (61 kilograms)

His BMR = 370 + (21.6 x 61) = 1687 calories (* Be sure to multiply the numbers within the parentheses first)

Now take the BMR (1687 calories) and multiply by 1.55 to take into account your activity level. This would work out to 2590 calories daily for this wrestler.

This formula works well because you figure out your body fat level first. Having you lean body mass percentage is key to being accurate. If you want to gain weight, you add 500 calories daily. If you want to lose body fat, you subtract 500 from your daily calories.
