HCWolverines06 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2006 http://www.thenewsenterprise.com/articles/2006/02/02/turret/sports/sports06.prt ========== PREP WRESTLING - Knox grapplers continue success at Danville meet By WILLIAM WILCZEWSKI/Turret Sports Editor With five grapplers placing third in the Danville Invitational Saturday, the Fort Knox High Eagles ended the tourney in sixth place out of 14 teams. “We could have done better,” said Knox head coach Jarvis Cullen, “but they took a nose dive in the second round. If they didn’t do that, we could have placed higher.” One of the disappointments came when Bryce Barrientos lost a second round sudden death overtime heartbreaker at 160 pounds. However, teammates Arthor Ohmes (103), Michael Ruckman (145), Kendrick Shaw (152), Matthew Johnson (171), and Anthony Bailey (275) picked up the slack—winning all of their third place matches via pinfall. “I was pretty happy,” Cullen said. “I’m pleased with the team’s performance as a whole. They’ve worked hard all season long. Coach (Ron) Fass is doing a great job with the kids.” Final third place matches: 103—Ohmes (Fort Knox) def. Kyle Terry (Central Hardin) via pin @ 2:18. 145—Ruckman (Fort Knox) def. T.J. Lyons (McCreary Co.) via pin @ 3:19. 152—Shaw (Fort Knox) def. Austin Cincotta (Montgomery Co.) via pin @ 2:10. 171—Johnson (Fort Knox) def. Phillip Bentley (Letcher Co.) via pin @ 3:54. 275—Bailey (Fort Knox) def. John Schulz (Bullet Central) via pin in 59 seconds. McCreary Central won the tourney, followed by Central Hardin, Dixie Heights, Bullitt Central and Letcher Co. WHAT’S NEXT? The Eagles hosted Nelson County yesterday. Due to press deadlines, results were not available. They head to Bullet Central Saturday for the Sharkbait Invitational at 8 a.m. To get to Bullet Central, take Dixie Highway north to Highway 44E. This is right after West Point. Turn right on Highway 44E beside Jerry’s Liquors. Go about 15 miles, until crossing Interstate 65. About 1/4 of a mile past I-65, the school is on the left. william.wilczewski@knox.army.mil
